Portal 2 OC- School Art Project

Hello everyone, I'm currently starting the design part of my art class this year, and I am currently in the process of creating a Portal robot/turret/mechanism/character thing and I'd like to hear what you think.

Currently working on: Ideas and development- also a small model to work from. I have a few weeks left of Study Leave as the Final Exams are halfway done- (I've done all my exams in the first half, yay!) so I can spend the rest of my time in the Art Department, working on AL. So hopefully I'll get a good update tomorrow with pictures and scans.

This is just a rough sketch of him just now- my teacher is going to help me create a full sized model and turn it into a lamp kind of thing.

Update 1: His function is pretty much helping/repairs. He is designed to go around Aperture Science facility and repair or help with the future of science! His Sphere contains many tools that are easily accesible through the horizontal opening across the center of his white plates, the doodle doesn't show the horizontalness of the line, but it's changed on a newer doodle.

Update 2: Changed his whole function from general helping/repairs to the managing of lighting of Aperture Science. His name is also now AL- Artificial Lighting!

I thought of one I quite like just now- ATMO-Sphere. Still figuring what ATMO could stand for.. Or maybe even ATMOSPHIR if I could get something to stand for each letter. Ha. But all of your suggestions sound really great, I'm going to have a hard time picking my favourite out of these. Heh. I'll keep everyone updated though.

@Dymus: I think the kind of definition that you gave for 'SPaRK' matches up to what I think his characteristics would be very well- this sort of knowledgable/polite robot always there to lend a helping hand.

@Matimoo: Hehe, I just loled at this.. kangaroo..? Interesting choice..

Dova-U for a name, maybe?
(Dova U = W, which stands for Wheel, I know it seems ti have nothing to do with the original meaning, but I feel original names that come from a far meaning are better as they're not too "obvious", and feel more original, you know? )

I've been looking at your suggestions, but because some of you have been thinking of this robot more as a lamp, then I'm going to change his information into the "light bulb changer" of Aperture Science. It would make more sense anyway as I am making it into a lamp. My teacher pointed out the fact that I may lose points if I did use your suggestions, so with your ideas, I have came up with a name for him- "AL- Artificial Lighting".

@Silverleon: I really did like your idea, I tried to implement that into his new name, but I was having a hard time trying to find a wheel word starting with 'n' (Long story short, I tried to call him ALAN- Artificial Light and.. couldn't think of anything else, hah.)

@Jedi_1993: Your idea really did influence me, if it wasn't for your name, I probably would have never thought of AL. Thanks alot!		2011-05-11 17:18:00

LOL this looks like a cross between a Atlas and a Panel If its not too late to change some things, Ide suggest making the appendages attached to a harness like device that holds the personality core (like Atlas) instead of attaching them directly to the core.2011-05-11 22:32:00

@Littlebigdude805: Thanks, I've been trying to make it look more unique, and un-ATLAS like, I know what your talking about and it isnt too late to make changes, as I am still in development mode. It's just, the harness idea would be harder to actually make and attatch to a lamp but I will try to make it look like it isn't actually attatched to the core. 		2011-05-12 16:28:00
