Text Boxes

Archive: 10 posts

As much as I love custom the fonts that people have done... I think it's time LBP gets some real text.

"But dude, we have text bubbles!"

Yes, we do. Thank you class. But I'm proposing a more permanent, less... wobbly... option. (By wobbly I'm referring to the fact that text bubble can appear at different places depending on where you are.)

What I'm looking for is a custom-text-sticker-ator. The keyboard would pop up, and you could enter text, change the font, choose how many character in one line, change color, thickness, all the good stuff. THEN, when you were done, you could paste this custom sticker on any material. The advantage with this over material fonts is you could print text that, while small, wouldn't get disfigured as do tight corners and minor detail do on materials.

It would be mighty helpful to anyone who wanted to create a level that:
-used a card system
-had signs
-had any text that they wanted to display in a manner other than magic mouths.

I'd probably like this, or anything to make material "stick-on-the-screen" for HUDs that don't need to be focused in one area or could be blocked with the 3D layer glitch in the foreground.2011-05-08 22:57:00

It would be possible to make something like this with the current tools, though the resolution of the in-game photos is too small really. Who's up for making it?

well native text editing would not be bad, but making font editor might be little too complex... well i don't know. I know Okingo and his friends was working on keyboard thing and not relese it yet, not sure how it works with fonts.2011-05-09 00:44:00

Easiest way I can think of would be to store the text in 26 port selectors wired to tags in microchips for each letter then just run different sets of tagged emitters over them for different fonts. You can use the same technique to store and call other info, like storing a player-made character name.

Hmmm, how about just being able edit the speech bubble that pops up (location, color, font, font color and shape) or maybe add stickers. Ooo one option for mouths I always thought would be cool if you could set options to pick i.e. Yes or no, or 1,2,3 or 4, you know, then set outputs to those choices perhaps another dialog box! or exit or equip something, whatever you wanted. Without having to spend the time to make stupidly complex menus.

Edit: and apply this to notes as well.
Also I think we need more gibberish voices and it would be cool if gibberish voices were sound objects*
Even though we have voice acting...

What makes me kind of infuriated is that this feature is already in LBP (it's used in the Introduction levels), but Mm won't let us use it.2011-05-10 20:42:00

yeah i agree with both the op and craigmond.

it would be useful to have a text editor but we can do perfexctly well with this technique (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50765-HOW-TO-Write-anything-with-custom-fonts-amp-color-in-detail-and-little-thermo-effect) which is what was surely used in the introduction levels
