ASL! and LBP.me!

Archive: 14 posts

I'm always surprised that people don't display at least their age and country considering LBP is a worldwide game featuring creators from all over the world. I think its interesting to see how the ages of creators as well as the country they live in and maybe how their culture influenced their work.
Also since this is a LBP fan site, and the integration with LBP.me is so good, then why.. why!? block your LBP.me profile or set it to private...
I guess gender and age COULD be considered "personal info" (at least we know your human!) although I completely disagree, but your country...Come on.
People already don't pay attention to gender anyway, I often get several comments of "Good job dude!" or similar which is kinda annoying but whatever.

Anyways I just would like to know why sooo many of you choose to block this info thats not even personal but more like almost "necessary info". I guess people feel like they will be judged by that info...or something?

No idea about the personal info, but 'Dude' can be applied to women as well as men. All my friends are 'dude', regardless of gender, and they've never complained 2011-05-09 16:45:00

You just typed it in that post...
I personally see no problem with giving my age or country, what's the worst that could happen

Well maybe if you are younger than 18 it may be good but there are several smart creators that are under 18...2011-05-09 18:37:00

For my case, I'm not really the kind of person to just give away information about myself to the general public, especially the internet. I let my grammar skills tell other people what age I might be, although I'm willing to tell if I know you well enough and if you ask. The same goes for location. I feel a bit safer when I don't reveal where I live or give indications on which city I inhabit, but I guess mentioning the country wouldn't hurt as much...

All in all, I'm always on the lookout for those "creepy' people. You never really know who to trust. I'm aware that this is a LBP fan-site with tons of members who seem harmless, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Nonetheless, I agree with revealing gender as a must (even though there might be some people sneaky enough to lie about it :/ ). Since this is for LBP Central, I wouldn't think either gender would be judged as harshly as they do on the online multiplayer for Halo.

I just didn't want to fill in those blanks in my profile when I made it.
Qrii has a good point, though. People get preconceived ideas about people and their age and location. Gender as well but it would be best to force them to learn to deal with it. It's an absolutely shame how much gender lying happens on the internet.

I more meant the LBP.me part really. Some of the biggest creators have them set to private XD It usually just means that the person has either not visited LBP.me ever or they set it to not display "private" info and this "private info" is actually just blocking your PLANET info... on the site... LBP.me is really only used to browse and queue levels. It makes no sense to me why you would disable potential hits.
But also LBP.me could use a lot more use... and should be wayyy better than it is.

I's sure LBPC hates using it as a middle-man.

Honestly, I don't really mind telling my age and gender, and even location for that matter, I never give a specific city, more of just "I live relatively close to this place" But really, if someone really wants to stalk me and find out my personal information, they'll probably already be able to find even if I were to post it somewhere like this.

AND the gender stuff, c'mon people, let's just be honest and we can all wear our pants like big kids, it shouldn't be a problem but some people just find satisfaction through the strangest of means.

Yeah, I think we have a better chance of being mailed anthrax or a bomb from the hackers than being stalked on LBP.
And Jayhawk_er, how many people live in Utah, really? I'm sure your easy to find, mwahaha!
