Holiday/Winter zones

Archive: 11 posts

I've been throwing around some ideas for a holiday themed level. I haven't seen many posts or ideas regarding this topic and thought it would be cool to get some feedback.

What types of ideas are you all thinking of regarding this theme? I personally thought of some movie themes, sledding/skiing themes and/or doing something associated with Snow & Winter.

Leading me to my next question. I haven't finished the Bunker story level yet, but where is the snowy background from? Perhaps that will motivate me to finish the story mode

Well i was thinking a snowboarding track and if you do a backflip / frontflip you get points , im not sure how to do that though O.O well another idea is you can be santa and you fly around with reindeers ( of course roudolph in the front ) , and throw off present by jumping on them which causes them to go flying. also if you ever played super mario sunshine , and ever went to that sand bird level where you have to collect red coins , i was going to do that in lbp except for x-mas themed

With the sledding/snowboarding thing... my concern so far is not enough downhill space.

Would need to come up with a way to move more laterally and/or get back up to the top fast.

In addition... a way to limit/create a point system in a race, etc...

Rockets and glass will likely get the acceleration you need. You can place point bubbles at the jump areas to encourage people to jump. If the player is grabbing onto an object, jumping and hitting X will change the way things move, though depending on the set up it may only be slight changes.

Ski lifts would be the easiest way to get to the top quickly, I would imagine.

You get the background from beating the Collector's Lair. Also, you can get the snow-like material during the bunker.

Finally did that a couple days ago. Too much work to do this week to build any ideas on this theme unfortunately.

Acceleration is not an issue, just downhill space itself. I actually think a slower downhill movement will make up for lost space. I hope to produce some concepts by the 19th, if they are good I'll post them up here for people to check out and try.

I've seen a Level from japan that was christmas themed, It had the dynamic light objects emitting as snow! Not only that but he had a cool christmas light thing going on where the light turns on at different sections like a real x-mas like would do.2008-12-10 16:22:00

I've still been trying with this. Just busy 2 weeks, Finally get some free time this weekend.

I used the snowflake fabric, glass material, and other types of concepts and changed the angles of the slope, put gaps in, had the stuff you land on rotate.

Other ideas of how to place scoring bubbles and make the downhill travel seem fun (and long enough) would be good to throw around.

I need to play with more emitters for sure, tons of stuff can be done with them.

I successfully made rain drops fall across the screen and vanish just before they hit the ground, but there wasn't enough randomness across the screen.
