Luos's Sticker and decorations pack

Archive: 64 posts

For funzies I am going to model Decorations and draw stickers people would love to have as DLC for lbp2.
This comes closer to fan-art than anything actually used in lbp2, mainly because there is no way for me to import them besides you guys spamming MM with Pl0x ADD!!! Must HAVZ and hoping for the best.

As I am personally really fond on nature/forests/caves the "Pack" will mainly consist out of stickers & decorations based around:
* leafs
* plants
* flowers
* mushrooms
* Ferns
* Bushes
* Rocks
etc.. all the things I hoped that would make it into lbp2 but sadly never appeared.

To give you an idea of what I will model/draw here is an image from an unreal level i made about 7 years ago:

http://vladderbeest.com/cirquell/images/Image43.jpg http://vladderbeest.com/cirquell/images/Image22.jpg
For more interesting images check: http://vladderbeest.com/cirquell/

Drawings I made:

I hope people will leave comments/suggestions and advanced critiques

Here are some current test/try-outs before I start with the real deal:

I would indeed like some more natural decorations. The "nature" decos we have are all very craftworld like... <_< >_>
But for real, I would love to see those stickers!

What a great idea Luos! If it goes well I really think you should try going for it!

I would personally love some more vines and mushrooms, so I'm looking forward to see what you'll come up with

Looking forward to seeing what you make, Luos!

I'm right there with you that the lack of natural stuff in the new decorations was one of the main things that felt missing in the (otherwise awesome) sequel.

Make good stuff and I'll help spam MM for ya Releasing a user-made costume/decoration pack could be a pretty awesome bit of publicity for them, as well.

Personally I'd like to see some really interesting rocks, that can be rotated to look really different (In shape, if not in texture). A mushroom deco you can hide bounce pads in would be great, too.

Mind you, been 5 years since i touched 3dsmax, so i might redo it.
but, here is the first "decoration"
A simple fern. (will get a better shot when i got my licence for a better rendered re-activated)

here is another attempt, this time a mushroom..
still not proud of it.. but good practice till i am more used to 3dsmax again (i really miss my popit)
In a few days im sure im confident enough to really make objects worthy for a decoration-pack.

Update:

Made 2 rocks.. and its about time to get to bed.
Its been nice working with 3dsmax after so many years.. and slowely get the hang of it.
sadly i just discovered that the drive that crashed a few months ago had my 30gb of self made materials/textures on it.. so prolly need to get me another drive and hope i can recover some crap from it.

anyways, the two rocks (self made material ftw):

Looking good Luos!

Maybe you could make some stock photos of nature stuff or something?
That would be great - like, maybe a few things like leaves, rocks and flowers?

@ skalio

I had an internship at a company working on an mmorpg which resulted in way less time for me to create the level.
I also redid the whole level (or "Map" as we called em in unreal tournament) many times to improve everything over and over again.
Sadly I lost all work through a drivecrash back then so these photos are the last thing left of that project.

__

On another note, I went out and made about 50 stock photos of wood, stones, bricks, concrete and leafs..
strangely even though the weather has been nice, I havent been able to find much flowers to make stock photos from.
come to think of it, some of those might be very nice as actual materials.
Ill edit them when I am back buying a present for mother's day.

Great Idea Luos! I love the nature themed levels by the lbp community. Most of the levels and projects I want to make revolve around this idea, but I can never really achieve the look i'm going for because of the lack of these decorations. I think that the vera bee pack is the closet thing we've gotten to this idea and even that had very few nature decorations.2011-05-07 16:33:00

Far As Deco. try to make A Acorn :3

Also I think it be nice to have grass Material that drops off little on the sides like this http://cdn.medialib.computerandvideogames.com/screens/screenshot_252413.jpg
This be a very cool thing for MM to make, along with other Nature KIt stuff xD
I have to say tho, of all Sonic games this one has the most pretty Visuals, had to get my jaw off the floor
after the first hand full of times i was looking at them

yeah luos textures for materials would be a great idea too, some more grasses and maybe a muddy/earthy texture aswell since im sick of using wood as soil.

maybe if we made a getsatisfaction page then Mm would be alerted? Ill try anyway!

EDIT: Here we go!! (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/the_luos_pack)please rate highly/thanks/follow it in order to gain more attention!!

Nice work! Maybe it's worth contacting Mm with your stuff and see if they're willing to divulge what specs their 3D models are made to aside from the obvious limitations like poly count and texture size/compression.2011-05-08 19:13:00

Updated first post with various images.

well polycount is very variable in lbp, the yellow flowers deco has at least 200-500 polygons and some of the decorations seem to have even more polygons.
Ill leave my material/texture sizes to the regular standard (1024/2048 etc) sizes and uncompressed raw's as well as .DDS (regular editor format for most engines).

I have no tools to make bumpmaps however (very sad about that), and the licence of the render-software I had is extremely expired.. (which would visually enhance the images ive shown so far with 1000's)

But I will manage

Got vray (included in max) working, so images should look a bit better now.

A bush I made:
(Still not really satisfied but slowely getting there)

I can make em rounder, but that would mean 64 more polygons per mushroom.
And would be barely noticeable when they are the actual size (1/3th a sackboy)

But you forget! all deco can be made big
and some levels or i think a lot, would do that.

Hmmm, well, I would like to see this, would be very useful.
However, awesome as they look right now, those decos dont have that LBP feel to them IMO.
Maybe it's just me, but maybe you good give them a little makeover, keeping them realistic while still making them LBP appropriate.
The cloth seems a good idea, maybe make the vines out of string?

Also, will these be dynamic like most decos are, like will the vines react to you?
