Apparently Steve (the one with the big guns) didn't sleep for 3 days. That boy is crazy.

I second that.

Thanks for that wonderful post Dayne!!!! It was great to hear a bit about some of the people there and your experiences
It would be super awesome if any of the other creators had time to do a writeup along that vein, without breaking the NDA, discussing some of the experiences and interactions and fun times so we can all share in a bit of it by reading about it :3

Oh, that wouldn't be any fun...I say they leave hidden clues throughout various threads that we have to piece together to find the complete information. That would fun times, indeed.

Edit: oh, just read that back to myself and it sounded sarcastic...I was being serious.

I'm sure that could easily be arranged, though there isn't THAT MUCH (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=28726-New-Tools-Features-and-Updates-in-LittleBigPlanet-2) new stuff this time around

Thanks for the wonderful post Dayne!

I had such a blast meeting all of you guys, and I was and still am surprised about how friendly and forthcoming everyone at the event was was (knowing how the tone on these internet forums can sometimes be...).

This is a cross between being angry and Derek Zoolander's Blue Steel. I sometimes wonder if there's more to life than being really really ridiculously good looking. Then I remember that I'm James' princess so stop worrying about it.

You should have seen the speed that he could rotate the Move controller when playing his and Caryn's mini game...it was clear to see how they got that big anyway

That was pretty impressive I gotta say.

Don't sell Jack short guys. He carried my huge suitcase for me most of the way from London to Sheffield. A few more visits from me and he'll be sporting "Big Guns" himself.

Thanks again for that Jack. My savior!

Was anyone invited but not able to make it?
Just interested.

Yeah, I was invited but I couldn't go. I scrambled to try to get the money together and to get my passport in time, and it was just like swimming against fate. Between Larry and myself, it was going to cost well over 2,000 dollars, plus the fact that the only way to get a passport in time would have been to have it rushed and to go to NYC to get it, and we both had people off at our jobs, so we couldn't take the time off to make that happen. Larry and I discussed it, and with my upcoming wisdom tooth surgery to pay for on top of everything else, it just didn't seem like it was going to be able to happen, especially with such short notice.

the good thing to come out of it is that now I've gotten my passport sorted. I am tremendously afraid to fly, but I think I'd force myself onto a plane for an opportunity like this.

I'd like to thank xkappax for 'getting me to know' her better (Such a shame you couldn't make it, by the way :/ You were missed!)

Thank you, Dayne, sincerely. And thank you for the picture you sent me. It made my day while I was sitting at home hating myself for having to turn down the game jam invite.

That camera couldn't have taken the photo at a worse time though... ALL of our faces look a bit bizarre at that particular moment! I'm not usually that ugly... Honest

I assume the E3 will be good enough to explain all the new features, but I suppose we could TRY to remember what there was...! (We didn't get to see absolutely everything though)

Yes. I and most of the other people there were not convinced that a Move controller would be worth or time or money. But after seeing what you can do with this pack, we pretty much ALL want one!

It just makes the whole gaming experience more immersive, and better for playing the game at parties, with friends or people who haven't played before! ^^
When I let someone else have a go on mine, I handed them the controller and said "It's pretty intuitive" and just told them 1 or 2 little things to clarify, and they picked it up in under a minute!

I bought a Move at Christmas and used it for one day and was a bit disappointed with it. After seeing what the new LBP move pack can do has made me glad I did buy it. I would certainly recommend buying a move controller just for LBP.

The move controller will open the door for some really innovative, fun, and addictive gameplay. I can't wait to see what the community produces after the pack is released. Yeah, there'll be loads of "point and shoot" levels, but the pack will allow creators to make full use of the Move functions - creating some really cool motion controlled levels and mini-games.

@Falcon & Fluxlasers...

Thanks guys, it sounds like the Move could warrant some consideration. I dunno if any of you have played Zak and Wiki on the Wii, but I imagine you would be able to construct similar gameplay in LBP using the Move features....right? If so, then I'm definitely sold on it.

Random side comment that's sort of related. During a conversation earlier I actually stumbled upon the real reason why I love these events - I said previously that it was because everyone is awesome, and that's true, but that's not the main thing. The main thing is that everyone in that room knows that they are talented, but they also know exactly what the limits of their talents are and have the humility to respect others that can do what they can't. There's been a lot of talk of elitism around these forums over the last few months, but the truth is, none of those labeled as that actually show any of the signs of true elitism, because they all know how naive such notions are. No creator in this game is elite, because no matter how good you are, you always have your strengths and your weaknesses and there will always be someone, or more likely many people, who can pull out awesome **** that you could never even dream of.

And that's quite a wonderful thing, if you can get over your own personal ego and embrace it for what it is. Going to an event like this, or even creating online with others, is a chance to sit there and remind yourself of how awesome and diverse the community in this game is and appreciate the wide range of skills and talents and personalities that the game draws in. And that is something that is prevalent at these events, the sense of humility that is expressed by everyone present. People are just there to have fun and be creative and, most importantly, to be curious about what others are creating: going through test runs and previews, throwing in the odd bit of feedback and criticism, or lending a helping hand. It's not called a game jam for nothing. It's the very essence of what Play, Create, Share is all about - not the clamour and vulgarity that you get online because of the obsession with hearts and attention and competition and ******* on others to try and gain the upper hand.

It really is the essence of community spirit in that room when these jams go on. Sure it's not the entire community, but when the entire community get together the primary result is abuse and vitriol. Get 15 people together and what you end up with is those 15 people enjoying a shared passion and having fun. It's the very embodiment of the LBP dream and it's genuinely a shame that as a whole community we collectively struggle and generally fail to achieve that on a daily basis.

Actually Mr. Photos, Zak and Wiki was actually a fantastic "cerebral" adventure game in the vein of Monkey Island and Broken Sword. Despite it's kiddy-ish looks, it had some devilishly hard environmental/situational puzzles that made excellent use of the Wii's motion controls, and it stands in my mind as one of the greatest adventure games of all time. If I decide to buy the Move, then Zak and Wiki style gameplay is what I'll be aiming to emulate in LBP.

So, nyeh!

Well, Morgana's already told you Master 8 (odear Steve), Screw for your life, Smash and Grab... Honestly can't remember many! The names were the last things people added to them right before we shared what we'd made.

In the end I was so blown away by the new features, I kept jumping between tools not being able to settle down enough to actually finish any one thing... I did however make 7 basic proof-of-concept levels. In retrospect, I wish i'd all tied them together into one minigame level but alas, I was having too much fun trying out new ideas ;p

Bar the looks of my proofs, a few of them were fun to play, the others were a bit fidgety. Chris's (Okingo) was fun to play multiplayer, Morg's was clever and flashy, Slaedon's was hilarious but ingenius, Dayne's was intuitive, Jaeydon/Rafal's was incredibly perdy and could have been really pushed, Paul (Flux)'s was accessible and satisfying, Jump_buttons was... a classic jump level evolved in the most natural of ways...

Really some clever stuff came out, the show reel video will be a good eyeopener

Hey everyone, I wanted to take this opportunity to apologize for all of the negativity I added to this thread earlier. It was wrong of me to inspire anger and selfishness when you all had every right to attend and enjoy your productive weekend at the Community Game Jam. I hope you can understand that while my intentions were true, I only argued with my selfish perspective in consideration. I spread my negative feelings after I put only my best emotions into my creations and I am sorry for this. Thank you 2011-05-13 13:55:00

All I want to know is if the Prehistoric Moves content will be made available as future DLC, and/or be released alongside upcoming Move content. That layered rock material and amber are fantastic.

E3 can't come soon enough, if you asked me.

As far as I know it's when they tell us it's lifted. (I'd hope it would be rather soon but I haven't heard anything yet.)2011-06-06 16:32:00
