Glitch to make materials with no collision?

Archive: 13 posts

Im working on a new level that has an over-head HUD system. It's basically a floating hologram above the sackbot that turns on when the player holds a button. However, as most may kno, its hard to view stickers on holograms on bright levels. So what i did is i added neon set to 0% brightness (turns black) that emits inside of the overhead hologram when the same button is pressed, and disapears on release. However since neon is collidable, it causes issues when the HUD display when it makes contacts with walls and such.
Does any1 know how to glitch materials to become uncollidable with other materials? Or has any1 even seen it b4?
I doubt anyone knows but i thought i would give it a try.

Yes I've read something about a glitch... search for something maybe about "ghost material glitch" or something similar... Involves putting a destroyer on the object and pausing and capturing when the object is being destroyed... not really sure if/how this works, and really don't know if it would work for you.

Good luck./

i've seen the glitch above, but i havnt messed around with it to know if it's suitable, there is also a glitch that uses the corner editor that can make both materials and objects with no collision, but unfortunately it doesn't allow the object/material to be moved afterwards, i'd suggest using the extra layers glitch and put your hud in the foreground so it can move past everything else in your level2011-05-04 09:11:00

Im aware of the glitch above and it only becomes uncollidable with sackboys, but not materials, the whole foreground idea wont work either because my level is in full 3d already. but thx anyway2011-05-04 09:17:00

use the corner edit glitch to make your foreground have no collisions, or just the front thin layer2011-05-04 09:22:00

place 2 squares of any material in your level, glue them together, then glue it to the object/material you want to "ghost" so that only one of the squares is touching it. then get out the corner edit tool, click on the square that is furthest from the object, then grab one of the corners that are not touching the other square and slowly move it directly toward the opposite corner till the square vanishes, the remaining square and your object should now be "ghosted", to unghost you simply delete the remaining square, and just change the remaining square to holo so you cant see it in play mode. just make sure it is in the right place b4 you ghost coz you wont b able to move it afterwards2011-05-04 09:47:00

yeah mine froze as well after trying to corner edit the main object. i just got too glued squares, glued a circle to the far left on only, then corner edited the far right square, starting from the bottom right corner to its top left.then did the same to the other square.so then only the circle was visible. and it worked just fine2011-05-04 10:52:00

The problem with the corner edit method is as others have said - you can't move the object afterwards. So unless your HUD never moves, this isn't going to be a viable solution.

I had success using the chrome glitch to build a semitransparent, collisionless dark grey background for my HUD's holo. Any material works - I think I used dimmed neon - and it basically acts like a shadow hologram. It takes a bit of work afterwards to get it mobile, but should meet your needs.

you only need one square, the second is used to make unghosting easier, not sure why it's not working as i described for you, normally you only corner edit the first square, then the second square and the object have no collisions but are both visable, then you just change the remaining square to holo so you wont be able to see it in play mode. the second square is only there so u can delete it to unghost the main object2011-05-04 11:35:00

So, the HUD is a solid material? Not hologram?2011-05-06 04:29:00
