Moving Words (Movie Effect)

Text Scrolling (Like Action Movies)

A simple, easy thing to do for level trailers that feature characters that are important!
This is one of the many techniques of animation, also the most simple (next to turning on a hologram name then turning it back off).
These examples aren’t animated because they are images. Just imagine they are moving.

This gives you an idea. (The ‘CASH’ and the ‘LOSERS’ words are the examples) Imagine your character walking on screen, doing something fantastic, and then freezing in place while the color turns black and white with his/her name moving into the screen, slowing down towards the middle, and then when the words are off center they zoom off the screen and disappear, then everything goes back to normal. But imagine it happening in 3-4 seconds. Get the picture?
All you have to do is follow these steps.
1) Pull out your popit materials bag and select hologram. My Pictures are made using Paint so they aren’t masterpieces, but they’ll do. Create an long invisible hologram piece. Make it thin.

2) Next thing for you to do is make the words. I’ll use LBP2 as my words. Smear your words away from the first hologram block, then select your words and move them into the invisible hologram and glue it to each other.

3) Now just place a microchip right smack in the middle of a new invisible hologram and place an Impact Sensor and an Anti-Gravity Tweaker, a Mover, and a Destroyer on the circuit board. Tweak the Impact Sensor to the following; Include Touching: YES / Require Tag: YES / Tag Label and Color: Optional. Tweak the Anti-Gravity Tweaker to the following; Anti-Gravity: 100% / Dampening: 20%-70% (Depending on how long you want it to stop). Tweak the mover to Left/Right Speed: (Positive) 15.0-20.0. My example doesn’t have the logic on it but I bet you know what it looks like.

4) Now just place a tag on your words. Make sure that the tag matches the impact sensor.

5) OPTIONAL* I prefer to have the words destroy itself so that it just doesn’t continue moving forever. So just place a timer and wire it to destroyers on the invisible hologram that is glued to all the letters of your word(s), and on each individual letter. Then just wire the impact sensor to a counter set to Target Count: 1 and then wire it to the increment input. Lastly, wire the counter to the timer.

...Imagine your character walking on screen, doing something fantastic, and then freezing in place while the color turns black and white with his/her name moving into the screen...

What logic freezes the action in place here? Don't get me wrong, I like your tutorial, but most of the effect relies on the action freezing up; unless I missed it, your tutorial doesn't describe that.

Actually that was just supposed to be an example. You could freeze the sackbot using an Anti Grav tweaker, but it might look weird. Or you could use that statue trick/glitch.2011-05-24 00:44:00

This sounds cool, I'll definitely try this out.

What is this?
