OUTLAND http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8a/Outland_cover.jpg Outland is a platform video game developed by Housemarque and published by Ubisoft.[4] The game was first demonstrated at Penny Arcade Expo 2010. It combines two-dimensional platforming with a polarity system similar to Ikaruga.[5] Outland was released in April 27, 2011 for Xbox Live Arcade.[6] The PlayStation 3 version was delayed because of the PlayStation Network outage. Outland is a 2D platformer with action game elements. Gameplay mainly revolves around switching colors in order to destroy enemies and traverse obstacles of the opposite color. The game uses an open world structure similar to Super Metroid. Over the course of the game, players learn new abilities that allow them to access previously inaccessible areas. Players can also collect hidden objects called "Masks of the Gods" in order to unlock extras such as concept art. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au8t3bmZckg For me this looks awesome!!! | 2011-05-03 08:11:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

I see elements of Contra, Castlevania and God of War with a visual style strangely/slightly reminiscent of Patapon. Translation? I like it EDIT: been checking various reviews and scores are strong. One word that keeps coming up is quality and the developers attention to detail (this is always an important factor for me). Looks like I will be picking this up once PSN is finally up and running again | 2011-05-03 12:22:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Well, I'm sure interested. Seems like it's time to go pick up another PSN card. | 2011-05-03 18:11:00 Author: 4wheel Posts: 511 |
So did anyone else download this? It is now available on the NA store, has been on the EU store for about two weeks now. I bought it yesterday (along with Beyond Good and Evil HD and Under Siege with PS+ discount!). The game is spectacular, beautiful to look at and a joy to play. Ultra, ultra tight controls move what is one of the most graceful and powerful characters I have ever seen, stalking across the gorgeous backdrops like a lithe panther. I beat the first two bosses, each was very unique, each employed cool patterns of attack, each looked very very pretty. I am digging the SoTN style map system and character upgrades which encourage (and in many cases require) backtracking to previous areas of the world one new skills are unlocked. And what a lovely world it is, eye-popping colors and a vibrancy I have rarely experienced. I am a fan of Housemarques Super Stardust HD and I donwloaded Dead Nation through the 'Welcome Back' package which also impressed me. I did not buy this because of lack of things to play (at any given time I will have on average 3-5 new releases I am playing through lol) but rather because I felt that with the free Dead Nation dl, Housemarque's sales on this game would suffer a bit (they said as much in an interview) and they deserved my money. That was money well spent, any PS3/360 owner should download this ASAP! | 2011-06-15 13:19:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
I also bought this yesterday . Played the demo a few weeks ago and loved it. The animations are incredible and the platforming is probably the fastest and most fluid of any game I've played. Absolutely beautiful game with perfect, very responsive controls. Just got the dark power, one thing I love is the ability to get a flow going where you're running, jumping and sliding all while changing between blue and red and it just feels so... fluid and powerful. And skillful, you feel a strong sense of skill when you get get through a tough area unscathed and did so without breaking the flow. Highly recommended. Have you started Under Siege yet? I'm trying to decide whether to buy it or not. PM me so as not to derail the thread is you get a chance . | 2011-06-15 14:51:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |
Has anyone else played it yet? I've recently played the demo and now I'm more than willing to buy it, I just need to get out to the store to pick up a PSN card. | 2011-06-23 22:51:00 Author: 4wheel Posts: 511 |
What!?! Could this be?!!! I had heard that the Makers of Elite 4 had shelved the project while they worked on something called "Outlands" - and since then, have heard absolutely nothing!!! Does this mean we may 'finally' have Elite 4 on the way?!?! Oh please, make it so! | 2011-06-24 13:24:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |

Different developer also aparently the game you're thinking of is The Outsider. | 2011-06-24 13:37:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Indeed it is. My stoner brain likes to replace words with other words; So, still no word on Outsider (and therefore Elite 4 - it's vapourware) | 2011-06-24 14:25:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
