Multi-Pivit Robotic Arm
Archive: 5 posts
Hello Everyone, I have started diving deeper and deeper into the create mode and have started working on my first level. I have come across an issue that I can't work out. I am trying to build a robotic grab arm that the player can control. When not activated it would be in a stand by position. Then when active it could unfold and be used to grab blocks moving them to the desired locations. I have tried using the Controlinator but am running into issues. Problems include only being able to control 1 section of the arm and when trying to move multiple sections it just binds up. It would be fine if it followed a preset program to unfold and fold back up when you enter and exit the seat, I just can't figure out the logic to make it work correctly. If anyone has done anything like this and could help me out it would be great. I have tried to play with a logic system to control it but I am at a loss. Here is a sketch of what i am thinking of. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i385/Slopzilla/Multi-PivitRoboticArm.png?t=1304386714 Thank You Everyone for the help, Slopzilla | 2011-05-03 02:40:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'm guessing you're using wobble bolts. One way I've been able to get wobble bolts to line up properly was by adjusting them in create mode with the simulation unpaused. If you hook a switch to the wobble bolts set to off and set the bolts to forwards backwards, they will stop at the ends of their movement. Then if you turn the switch on, they'll switch to the other end of their movement. This way you can gradually adjust the angles without things just falling apart. EDIT: Oh, and if you're controlling with a controlinator, I'd recommend this: Have the controlinator control each bolt independently. I would do this by using AND gates. Require to move each bolt that you hold down another button while also moving the left stick. So you'll have the left stick as the top input on the AND gate, let's say L1 as the second input, then the AND gate connected to the wobble bolt. ANOTHER EDIT: If you just want it to open and close, you can eliminate the AND gates all together. But the above (the first post, before edits) is the best way to set them up initially. | 2011-05-03 03:05:00 Author: shane_danger Posts: 283 |
I like the idea of controlling each bolt independently. I will add these ideas into my project tomorrow. Hopefully this will allow me to get the desired result. | 2011-05-03 04:17:00 Author: Unknown User |
This might not be as refined as your approach, but during the beta, I simply used an Advanced Mover on the claw and had the other parts of the arm connected by 0% Strength Bolts. You can see the arm in action at 3:17 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD7cXxrCJDs EDIT: Don't mind the jittery look - Chimpanzee was one of the few who had a bit of a hard time controlling the claw | 2011-05-03 08:09:00 Author: Slaeden-Bob Posts: 605 |
@Slaeden-Bob ... Incredible. Incredible! Loved the amazing stuff in that video, but especially nice of you to show the logic (or parts of it) for your contraption. Extremely smooth and way inspiring to look at... makes me want to do more with my logic now! | 2011-05-05 12:06:00 Author: Unknown User |
