LBPC Virus/Spyware Scam Spotted!

Archive: 16 posts

I was checking out the cool levels page and I recieved one of those "Your computer has been infected!" pop ups and asked me to run a free scan to search for virus'.

This is a SCAM! If you see this, do not I repeat DO NOT accept anything! Use "Ctrl-Alt- Delete" and end your webbrowser process!!!

Somebody who logged on here clearly is trying to ruin other peoples lives... figured I might as well warn you all.

.... Don't want to sound harsh but,
That's kinda obvious.
For future reference, don't click on any pops.
If you have impending dooooooom virus', they'll notify you via tool bar.

Yeah, no offense to you, but it shouldn't be breaking news that pop-ups claiming to have found a virus on your computer are, in fact, viruses. Though I suppose there's a chance some of the younger users of this site may not know that. Would be surprising to me, but it's nevertheless a possibility.2011-05-02 03:01:00

Or just block them with AdBlock or the equivalent for your browser.

It's a bit of a misnomer to say that it's an "LBPC" scam. This sort of thing happens on millions of sites daily, not just here.2011-05-02 20:44:00

These little buggers come in through embedded ad scripts. Just close the window or, if you prefer, end the process. I actualy wrote a batch to end all instances of firefox.exe and slapped a shortcut on the quick launch bar in case my browser gets hijacked. 2011-05-02 21:50:00

Or you shouldn't do that because by using that your taking away money gained from ads that funds LBPC to run.

Adblock is for the end user, not the webmaster. It doesn't change anything on the server side of the site.

I love these popups myself. Seeing an XP/Vista/7 Box pop up on my Mac always brightens my day.

I'm a bit concerned about the idea of ad blocking, I hate ads myself and never look read them or click them. But take a look at what is happening to print; they are loosing their ad based revenue. The less clicks/views of an an ad then they no longer pay to advertise.

10 years from now we'll all be saying remember when the internet was 'free'?

I'm not an idiot. I've seem the same scam for years, but I wanted to warm the uneducated youth that I thought most likely visit this site considering it's for an E rated game. I don't need to be told not to click on pop-ups XD2011-05-03 22:48:00

If there's a kid who's young enoug, or that doesn't know anything about the internet, roaming around here without parental supervision, or at east someone checking up on hime now and there, then that's kinda bad and or lazy parenting, don't you think?
Its like when parents let kids watch things like South Park, and such then whine their kid learned something bad from a show they weren't supposed to be watching.

I mean, come on, unsiprevised internet should be rated at least T+16, and that's with some generous rating system.
