I've heard its very good if u like single player RPGs. It's on my list of games to get in the summer (or winter here in NZ) famine. I will be getting the PC version though.2008-12-05 00:13:00

I have, and the story draws you in BIG time, my fav rpg simply because Bethesda's stories are short, Bioware's stories lack depth, and just about all JPRGs are too long and too deep to be enjoyable... The Witcher is more of an action adventure than an rpg really... (So if your looking for an rpg, and the good ol NWN, KOTOR, FF, Elder Scrolls aren't doing a trick give Witcher a try)

I never really heard of a console version, but I'll be the first to buy the PS3 version (even at the cost of LBP on my must buy soon list; sorry guys)

As for the PC version, long loadscreens, some glitchy effects, and the inventory system could be fixed, but at the end of the day, you just want to know what the **** happens next.

What makes it so good? Choice and consequences.... Heres the first choice you make so its a minor spoiler. You either A fight the giant monster, or B go down and protect the formulas.

Consequence of A; you find out the monster was just a distraction so the witchers will be busy to defend the potions

Consequence of B; if you have stayed to slay the monster, maybe the other witchers could of come down a lot faster to help out.

playing it once leaves you the feeling of "what would of happend if I chose the other one"

plus; the soundtrack is quite a good mix of orchestra, rock, string, example
HoBW1VLJzds

hmm what else can I tell you, the setting is unique too; its not those fairy tales medievel setting, its a dark medievel setting, you see racism, sexism, and science reigns supreme while magic is seen as a dark art. Religions and cults etc...

The humor is a little dry...
"You heard of the Order of the Flaming Rose, they kill monsters for free"
"mmm....unfair competition"

If you would like a good story give Witcher a shot, it will blow Mass Effect(which is known for its good story) to kingdom come. However if you care more of gameplay and choices, maybe no, Witcher is linear, it has the diablo system of passing this area go to another unable to go back...

hmmm perhaps this feedback went a little too long....

edit: the choice-consequences are not linear in anyway, so never think "the same thing is going to happen anyway so why bother"

I bought it for PC, but I couldn't run it so I finally got a new graphics card just to run it, but then the load times were crazy. Then I got a pirated version that ran really fast. I hope the console version loads at around the speed of the pirated version.
I'll be getting this for 360 the day it comes out.

Sorry to resurrect a thread but did a search and thought I'd post here instead of creating a new one. On a sidenote which is better practice, creating a new thread or resurrecting a really old one?

Anyway, I've been considering buying this game for a long time and for some reason only downloaded and played the PC demo today. And it is amazing! A truly excellent game filled with mature themes, a realistic fantasy world, some great characters and a fantastic combat system.

I'm trying to decide whether to wait for it on consoles or buy it now. I definitely prefer playing games on consoles and my laptop can't run it at a good resolution. But I don't know if the combat system on the consoles will be any good. It's the only area that I can see them failing in, I really wouldn't want it to turn into a console-Baldur's gate-like hack-and-slasher.

One thing that I love about the game and it's quite a simple thing is how quickly Geralt runs. If more RPGs had a faster character I think I'd like the genre as a whole a lot more. He runs faster than a lot of characters in Action/Adventure titles! Didn't get into the Alchemy system at all but by all accounts it's quite deep. Also the company who made the game released an enhanced version but also released the update for free to players who already owned the original which is excellent fan service in this day of DLC.

Anyway if you haven't tried it yet and even slightly like game like Oblivion, WRPGs like Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate and even Action/Adventure games give the demo a go. I've always wondered what an action/rpg with an excellent story and combat system would be like and it seems I have my answer. Can't wait to see how they handle the console version!

Gamespot Download (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/thewitcher/download_6184007.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=files&tag=files;title;2) (Best mirror I've found, you'll need to register)

And here's a gameplay target render for the console version. It's about 7mins in:
