Call of Duty: MW 2 Announced

Archive: 26 posts

Not much yet other than the announcement. I'll skip World at War and just wait on this one...

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/12/03/activision-announces-guitar-hero-5-new-tony-hawk-call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2-more-at-in-game-ad-conference/

...Additionally, Activision Blizzard acknowledged the ?Call of Duty? series will move forward yet again with ?Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″ coming this fall. No details on the game were released...

My guess is they're going to continue in both directions. They'll always find a way to make a WWII game and will probably start churning out modern warfare games as well. Boy, they do love their sequels over there at Activision, huh?

Whoa. This fall? So soon?! Anyway, I skipped MW1 and WaW... But I think I'll get this one. Of course, only if it improves on the Kill Cam. What's the use of sniping if you get seen every time you kill? -_-2008-12-04 20:45:00

Well you could play hardcore. No killcams.

Wtf is this, I just bought WaW... This is Blasphamy!

It's being developed by a different team, so we may end up getting WaW2 and MW3 next year around the same time.

World at War - Treyarch
Modern Warfare - Infinity Ward

Mind you, Modern Warfare 2 will be better than World at War... It'll have more features and it'll be more balanced. Treyarch just copied off Infinity Ward's advances (from Modern Warfare 1) and features and just applied it to their same old World War II games. They brought nothing fresh except for Death Cards...and even Halo 3 had that.

I think you mean Modern Warfare, but I tend to like WaW more then CoD4, I don't know it just feels more balanced in my opinion, there are more perks, and finally put some vehicles in, FINALLY... It also takes wayyyyy longer to level up and will take someone a great deal of time and effort to get to the final prestige.

One thing I agree though is that they really did just copy every single thing from Infinity Ward, the perks ( from Cod4 of course ), even the guns basically are compared to a weapon from Modern Warfare, it's just the old version, but I still think WaW is better, campaign-wise and online-wise.

they are both amazing games. I think it really depends on how you play the game. I personally think WAW is amazing and has some great options MW didn't have but MW is the biggest online game for consoles and still a ton of fun to play2008-12-04 22:45:00

Personally I'm really happy to hear this announcement, I've been trying to play WaW, but I just didn't like it nearly as much as CoD4. Don't get me wrong, it's probably the best WWII game ever released, but I've been playing these dang things since Medal of Honor... Besides which, I really do think that Modern Warfare is far superior in design, feel, and game experience. I've actually gone back to Modern from WaW... except for Nazi Zombies of course... that game is just awesome.2008-12-05 02:24:00

Nazi Zombies was the only thing that I played in WaW, it was amazingly hard but very rewarding.

I still like COD4 a lot more, and I cannot wait for MW2

Imagine they have the Zombie feature in COD:MW2!! *is excited*

Call of duty 6: More moderner warfare 2? HAHA NO

No way i'm giving actiblizzard anymore of my money, they're almost as evil as EA (actually wait, more evil). Seriously I'm getting so sick of these soulless games being rehashed and re released. This is truly garbage. Every year we get the same garbage wearing different skins. Does anyone really think there will be a difference between CoD6:mmw2 And CoD4? It's going to be the EXACT same game! This is just a fancy 60 dollar expansion pack. What a cash grab! Between this and guitar hero 6 (Aerosmith and rock the 80's), it seems every year I have to break the bank, and buy the exact same game as last year (I'm not poor, I could afford to do this, but I won't)! I personally will not stand for this kind of thing. Soulless games made by unimaginative big developers who, rehash and release the same stuff each year have no place in my collection.

Rehashed games are whats killing video games. And piracy, but PC gamings as good as dead.

Glad to hear a passionate opinion on the matter. Still, personally I'm not in this for Activision, but for Infinity Ward and their awesome game design. CoD4 surprised me with it's great gameplay, story, and online replayability, I'm expecting Infinity Ward's next installment to do the same, wouldn't be excited if that wasn't the case.2008-12-05 03:34:00

I agree infinity ward has talent, But maybe they should take there talent else where, ala free radical ditching rare when they got bought out.

I see where you're coming from, I don't like all the production companies being bought up by the larger ones either, just doesn't seem right to me. I wouldn't mind seeing some of them going, or staying, independent, just so that they can make whatever their imagination can come up with, rather than just making games for the money in it.

I can't imagine they'll make a whole new engine, hopefully it's tweaked and made better than it was these last two games though, keeping the good things, and fixing what's broken, with some new features added in, is key to actually good sequels.

It'd be great if Sony bought them out, and made it a PS3 exlusive.2008-12-05 09:41:00

I'm sure the reason behind two teams is so they can get a game out every year while giving each game two years in development for more polished gameplay.

But didn't the update say 'coming this fall'?
I'm confuzzled.

Fall 2009.

Let me put the whole thing out this way:

CoD - 2003, Infinity Ward
United Offensive (Expansion) - 2004, Grey Matter
CoD2 - 2005, Infinity Ward
CoD3 - 2006, Treyarch (Here, IW makes a deal with Activision to have the numbered titles in the series, and in-house Treyarch to get the subtitled productions.)
CoD4 - 2007, Infinity Ward
World at War - 2008, Treyarch
CoD5/Modern Warfare 2 - 2009, Infinity Ward

So they're leapfrogging, in order to give a full two years to make a stellar game, rather than forcing it all in one year, and Activision using its own developers to fill in the midyears, as well as the cross-platform spin-offs.

Slightly worried This won't live up to call of duty 4, a mean, 2 years game development is really small.

But then wasn't cod4 infinity ward's first ps3 game?

I'm psyched either way. Just kind of afraid of it not living up to ze illustrious hype its gonna get.

I still haven't finished CoD4 on PC (which isn't dead) it was an awesome game but I got stuck playing on hard difficulty on the farm level, man it was hard.... then I got distracted by playing online which was just brilliant. Mouse and Keyboard beats gamepad any day.....lol.... shame about the pirates though they really do suck - I never pirate games - even the games with DRM I buy if I think the game is worth it. (so far that has been Spore and Far Cry 2 which both turned out to be a complete waste of money though .. doh!... maybe I should have pirated them - they certainly weren't worth any money) I have to say that the introduction of this stupid DRM stuff has got me thinking about piracy.... still not prepared to do it though.

Er.. back on topic... COD:MW2 eh, sounds good but i gotta finish the first one first...
