Scary Games Any platform

Archive: 13 posts

I really enjoy scary/phycological thriller/demented games. Was wondering if anyone else here has a taste like that lol.

Some of my favorites are : Scratches Directors Cut(PC) Fatal Frame 1,2,3(PS2) Downfall (PC dont play that if you are under 18 and get upset easily) Silent Hill 2 (silent hill is on multiple platforms) Amnesia The Dark Descent (pc fairly new highly recommended) Clocktower 3(PS2) Resident Evil 3(PS1)American McGee's Alice(PC Finally after 11 years of waiting the sequal will be out soon on ps3 and xbox360!)

I've played lots of others but those are the ones that stick in my mind the most at the moment.

Oh but my favorite favorite scary game of all time is The Lost Crown for PC... something about how it was done in black and white just went brilliantly. http://youtu.be/FymcZC2BCjQ (i dont know how to make video watchable from here? I thought it was embed but guess im wrong)

what are some of your favorites?

I'm not crazy about horror related games though I do enjoy the thrill they give ya.

Every step of a horror makes you think alot more, checking around corners, running away from flickering lights and so on. No matter how much I expect something in a horror, it always get's me, making me launch 5 miles into the air

Though for me, this could be the same for almost every game I've played. Call of duty, online when someone unexpectingly shoots you or on Demon Souls when there's some enemie leaping at you from the shadows, all are great in terms of making me feel the adrenaline.

For horrors, I don't generally play many or if at all because of them making me jump so much. Yeah I guess that's kinda pathetic in a way, though I get the jumps from call of duty.. I mean c,mon.. That says it all doesn't it?

My favourate horror based games, if you can call these horrors would be Bioshsock, Condemmend 1 and 2, Left 4 dead 2, dead space and silent hill. I havn't played much of any of these, at most 20 hours but through those 20 hours, I can confidently say I am not a horror lover due to them quite literally making me leap and screaming like a little girl

Not sure what the titles are you suggested, though they sound quite scary and twisterd, so with them in mind i'll avoid them

Haha, having read other this, i make myself sound like a little girl Ah well,

Oh that actually reminds me. I remember a few years ago, perhaps 6 years around when I was about 11-12 or so, i played this PC game, a horror. I'm not sure what the game is called or anything at that matter, though it had spiders that leaped at you and stuck to the camera sucking at your face. In the 10 minutes I was playing that, i was completely put off horrors for life.

Anyway, that's me and as you can tell, we are completely different

BioShock. But for it to really feel like an horror game, you must play in survivor difficulty with disabled vita-chambers for the first time. I wish I did.2011-04-28 18:23:00

Probably Condemned 2: Bloodshot.
Just has the surprising and gory factor going for it.

There's a relatively obscure Half-Life 2 mod called Dear Esther (PC), and it's really atmospheric and tense. If you're into more subtle, psychological horror games then you should try it out.2011-04-28 22:00:00

They should really change the name of that genre, "Horror" is over crediting it, maybe the "Surprise" genre?
I mean come on, when was the last time you played a true "Horror" game that didn't rely on suddend screams and moves, etc to make its "horror" element?

Thing is they can't really make true "horror" without going above to M or AO rating, which, of course, would kill sales, which is, one of the bad sides of the rating system, binding of creativity for a "playable" rating in the ESBR.

I generally don't like "horror" games, but on occasion I don't mind being scared in a game. Half life 2 ravenholm kept me pretty tense. There were some pretty tense moments in Bioshock as well. I really loved when you could hear the Houdini splicer or see his shadow run across the wall and you turn around to shoot him and he's not there and when you turn back the other way, BOOM! he's right there.
I played one in the 90's called Clive Barker's Undying that freaked me out a little. Don't play that one real late at night with the lights off

But.. bioshock was a pushover!
I'm not really into horror games, but Silent Hill 2 caught my interest, loved it.

Project Eden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Eden) isn't geared towards "horror" or anything really frightening but I found some parts scary at times. It has a spooky atmosphere but the old graphics kind of take away from that. 2011-04-30 00:27:00

Well, I just bought Amnesia: The Dark Descent(PC) and played through it a bit.
It is a pretty great game. It starts off a bit slow and confusing. But the story seems to kick in as you progress.
There are these aspects to the game such as "Sanity" which affects the player if it decreases to a low level.
If you're Sanity goes down, you'll start getting these blurry visions of some sort which does freak you out.
It gets affected by things such as darkness and monsters. So if a place is too dark, you'll have to light it up a bit with tinderboxes or you can use a lantern which you can find early in the game.

I haven't played too much of it yet, but it's been a great experience of scares so far.
I got to say, I can't play this game when I'm by myself, but maybe that's just me.

You can try out the demo or buy it for $20 here:

It's more on the psychological, demented side of horror, but "I Have no Mouth, and I Must Scream" looks like a rather good horror game (I said "looks like" because I've only ever watched videos of it.) If you're into point and click, and you can run PC games from 1995, you should give it a go.2011-04-30 07:39:00

Horror-wise, I remember elements of a strange game...

All I can recall is beginning in a bar, then venturing outwards through an abandoned circus why fighting of weird mutant clowns... :/
