Competitive Campaign - Invasion

This felt like a fun and interesting idea to do competitive versus games in a similar style to Demon's Souls or Brink: Have a dungeon crawler kind of experience on a timer where one player must defeat the enemies and save the day before the cave collapses on him. At the same time, however, all of his buddies play as spirits that must fight stealthfully and creatively to kill, trap, or at least slow down the main player so he can not make it by the timer and become a ghost like them.

Of course this is only useful for online co-op so you can separate the camera but I liked the idea so it's worth a mention.

You could also expand on that and have multiple people working to complete their own dungeon storyline and trap and fight others to see who saves the day first.

Provided that there are more than two people playing this level, will you be allowing the ability to choose whether a person wants to be a spirit or not? Can there be more "alive" characters than spirits at one time? What does the main player have to defend him/herself from the spirit's tricks and vice versa?2011-04-28 03:09:00

I think the easiest way to handle it is to make the host player 1 and the rest ghosts. If there are no other players they still have the campaign to play.
The living player should be the only one of his kind, though. S/he is a stronger and more durable kind of character so s/he can survive against a direct fight. This would force the ghosts to play more intelligently and, in a way, more "ghostly".

You could have the main hero use a bot similar to Knights: Lost Hero and give the ghosts devices similar to those made to have a top down character.

Well I was just tossing out the idea for people to try it. It concept will be there but what they do with it will change person to person.

I was gonna add a campgian content to my level later on where you have to protect a stronghold from enemy attack. Right now im still in the beginning stages even tho most of everything is near complete.2011-04-29 02:21:00
