LBP2 3 months later

Archive: 21 posts

LBP2 has been out for a little while now. What are your current impressions of it 3 months in? What have been the biggest improvements for you as a player, creator, or both? What has disappointed you? Has anything surprised you?

For me it's been an almost totally different experience from LBP1. I absolutely adore the activity stream feature. In LBP1 it was difficult for me to find good levels without having to use LBPC and surfing through hearted level lists. I played through so much crap it's actually unbelievable. Now I have good levels or at least levels that catch my eye falling right into my lap. Too many of them in fact. My queue is clogged up to nearly 500 levels and that's not due to a lack of playing levels.

The quality of the levels I've been playing is generally much higher as well. Sure there are a lot of levels I just didn't care for, but rarely do I come across levels I feel the need to boo. LBP2 has been a blast for me to play and I can't get enough. I also enjoy the added review section.

Ugh, sorry for the double post but I can't finish my post with the lame PS3 browser. I'll finish it later when I can use a PC but go ahead and post your thoughts.2011-04-26 12:47:00

Are we going to release one of these at every month mark? Seriously, there was one for the first month, one for the second month, and now one for the third month. Its pretty unnecessary.

It was a totally different experience for me on the first month; it didnt take me three months to realize that. However, a will admit, a new experience has come up: not being able to freaking play online. I do hope that gets resolved soon.

Can't say I've been disappointed, I ended up playing ONLY lbp2 for two months after release. And a lot of hours too...2011-04-26 21:16:00

I don't frequent these boards anymore and your post just reminded me why. Sorry for posting...a topic.

Being a participant in the LBP2 BETA, the WOW-factor of LBP2 has still been notable, but not as immense as what I experienced from September to December last year.

What currently impresses me the most is seeing all the different approaches people come up with to fix the good, but not even close to perfect logic tools.
I just read a post the other day explaining how you could actually get the score giver to consistently give a specific player his/her deserved points - good work community

UGHH i know right?!

Anyway i've had a blast playing levels making levels and just messin around with my friends!

( i like to add that i would have done some... things just to play LBP 2 beta for just one hour!!! ) those certain "things" would've been worth it...

When I first started out, I had no idea how logic worked, but now, I can build all sorts of complex doodads 2011-04-27 01:52:00

I remember when there were a number of people around me saying that "LBP2 will be cluttered with nothing but old school remakes and crappy levels and bomb survivals blah blah blah." I mean sure, those types of levels still exist (and not all old school remakes are bad ), but I'm very impressed with the originality these days. I like the diversity of genres that are now easier to make with the new logic tools Mm has given us too! And because of that, I have too many ideas that I want to create and experiment with; it might take a life time. ...okay maybe not.

I am also disappointed with the online incapabilities of LBP2. I hate it when groups of online players get separated through level links and aren't able to rejoin each other due to "the level overheating" or something. I noticed that I freeze much more often whenever I'm going through community levels, especially ones with high amounts of content (that might be my internet connection's fault, but I never had this problem before until I got to LBP2. And my internet connection was terrible then!).

Nowadays, simple costume levels, not-so-funny films, and "kill justin beiber" levels are the new bomb survivals. :/

I think by far i was more impressed with what people did in the beta than the actually game.

I think a lot of people have been kinda turned away from LBP for a number of reasons:

1. All the beta stuff was deleted
2. Most creators have exhausted their ideas on LBP1
3. It's harder to get your level noticed
4. Game glitches, logic inconsistancies, etc., etc.

I still love LBP just as I always have. I don't think I can leave it alone...ever...

LBP2 could have more tools though. It be cool if you could do programming like C+ or something on it.

LBP1 was a good broken game.
LBP2 is a great broken game.

There are a ton of great/handy new features, but I still get annoyed by a lot of little things.
Like stuff we have to work around, when we shouldn't really have to in the first place.

Activity Stream and lbp.me queueing are the best new interface elements, the new create tools make making complicated things much easier.
I also feel the quality of levels are higher. I'm not quite sure why that is though.

I love it. I was creating a level back in LBP and it was almost blank, but when I got LBP2 it allowed me to do so much more, so much easier. Then I looked back and realised that half the stuff I created in LBP2, I could have done back in LBP. /facepalm 2011-04-27 21:38:00

Well, if there was nothing to work around, and no limits, THE USERS WOULD BECOME MORE POWERFUL THAN Mm.

But the sound-cutting bug is reeeeaaaallly annoying.
It usually happens to me when I'm making a wire connect to something a long way away. Then the wire starts flashing and the sound disappears.
It also happens when I delete a piece of logic sometimes.

Which is REALLY annoying.

But I really like the new cutscenes that you can make.

LBP2 is awesome, but it has some annoying flaws.

Every time I look for new levels to play, they're all LBP1. It doesn't let me pick only LBP2 levels when searching by text.
As comishguy67 pointed out, it's impossible to get levels noticed. I spent ages on some levels and they have only 1-2 plays.
Rating levels with happy faces is also kind of retarded. I miss the 5 star system.

There is a filter , you know. press triangle.

How do you guys always get these flaws? Only trouble I've ever had with LBP was on the first and that was a disk problem that offset the music, but the new disk fixed that.2011-04-28 00:47:00

You can use that filter when you're NOT using the text search engine. :/ (Unless if they've changed that without me knowing...) I think the text search is flawed too. You can't search by only username or only level name, and it usually requires the exact amount of characters/symbols to provide the right results which can be somewhat of a hassle if you can't remember the correct spellings.

Regarding the filter:

If you go to the cool pages and press the Triangle button, you well get extensive filtering options. Near the bottom of these, you can choose to uncheck LBP1 levels, and all the way down you can then subsequently Text Search resulting in hits from only being from LBP2

And yea the extreme accuracy demanded by Text Search function is a pretty annoying issue

Hi, Why have 2 planets? This makes finding friends levels harder to find, also New info is unnoticed untill I go on there like once a mounth! Other han that, they have made logic easyer to use (Yay!) And sackbots are really cool, I also don't like the new story levels, LBP 1 story was better!2011-04-28 16:22:00

I thought that too but you can filter your text search by opening the filters menu and selecting text search at the bottom. I think it was Aya042 who first made me aware of that, so any kudos go to them.
