DLC-U City Pack (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=55753-DLC-U-City-Pack) DLC-U Summer Pack (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=59258-DLC-U-Summer-Pack) DLC-U Mad Science Pack (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=60166-DLC-U-Mad-Science-Pack)

This isn't a new level idea or anything, but more of an idea for the PSP Community. Since Sony Cambridge announced (however many months ago, maybe a year now) that there wouldn't be anymore Official DLC, I thought it would be interesting if the community here could come up with DLC of our own and make it ourselves. I realize this is sort of what captured objects are for, but these are really limited especially with the spamming of community objects in "noob" levels. Basically what I'm proposing is a core group of creators make DLC based on community suggestions and "Publish" it through use of the "Magic Crater Method." The DLC would contain "Secret Materials" as made by creators to be fully editable via the corner editor. Objects would be custom-built and perfected with a lot of attention paid to detail. Music could be made through use of magnetic keys and "Music Boxes," made by placing magnetic keys on a wheel. The possibilities are endless, and I'm sure better ways of "Publishing" the DLC could be found such as using a site such as GameFaqs or even simply making the level copyable. We already have this with the logic tools in the LogicPack and the objects in the LBPCentral Starter Kits, so why not make topic-specific DLC like those seen (when the PSN worked) in the PSNStore.

The Plan
Courtesy of Alismuffin
Refined by Me

This will be a Community Project where EVERYONE can participate. Assignments will be given to those who respond they would like to help and will consist of focus on one particular job such as a character. In order for this project to work, we'll need cooperation, and most importantly, an ability to meet deadlines. We will be using the magic crater method to create our objects so we will pass on the level in turns. (See turns below). More about the requirements will be explained later.
Here's what we propose the packs should include:

Characters
Well made characters in various poses. Perhaps made in separate parts so as the creator can put the pieces together themselves and also add motion. Magic Mouths can describe the character and can even be used to give the character the desired voice, relevant to the theme.
Font
One font per pack with a theme relevant to the pack.
This would come with capital letters and lower case letters along with numbers 0-9 and symbols ?!-),.
Stickers
Not quite stickers, but thin plane components that creators can simply stick on a wall. These could be trees, words, silhouettes, signs, etc.
Included in this could be basic objects or creatures such as furniture, wheels, animals, etc.
In addition, if one of the hidden stickers happens to fit the theme, it should be added in and explained how it was discovered.
Props
Objects that are both interactive and non interactive. These could be cars, buildings, or special objects.
Costume(s)
Instructions on how to assemble relevant costumes and a visual of the finished product on a basic Sackboy model.
Tutorial(s)
A few tutorials per pack concentrating on effects that are based around the theme of the level pack.
For example, a tutorial on how to create a magic mirror for a magic pack.
These can range from explanations of glitches to walkthroughs of tools.
Example Level
A short level put together exemplifying how the components should be used and showing the effectiveness of what was learned in the tutorial.

-How to create an earthquake feel

As you can see, I've selected several from different categories because I've already made some. After we get going and people finish their chosen portions of the project, we can delegate who works on some of the leftover parts. For now however, please follow the guidelines in RED to keep things simple. Just because you finish creating a part of the pack doesn't mean it's ready to be published since we want them to represent top-quality work.

:star:
WoodburyRaider and Alismuffin reserve any rights to edit your objects. Everyone will receive credit where credit is due and will be included in the level description. If you decide to go lone wolf and publish the pack on your own without our expressed written consent, we reserve the right to throw leftover soggy apricots at you and pick on you forever on LBPCentral making you infamous for being the liar with your pants on fire that you truly are. Hopefully this won't happen and your face won't be harmed by our soggy, probably moldy apricots which are undoubtedly rock solid by now. We hope this can be done before the release of the PSP killing Vita, which strangely means "life" in another language...

The thing with the music, is that no one has even explored a Music Level yet, much less Music boxes. And besides, the way music boxes were created on LBP1 were by using specific range magnetic sensors. By that I mean being able to adjust the angle of the magnetic key sensor's radius so it only scanned one key at a time.

In layman's terms, music boxes are technically impossible, well the LBP1 type music boxes.

Well that's not entirely true. Although it takes time and is rather tedious, I was able to make the basic Mario theme song from those old games using magnetic key switches on a spinning wheel. I had each one set to turn on its own specific note (using the "Low Piano" Sound effect) and when the wheel spun by the static magnetic key switch, the corresponding note played. This is a very tedious task since it takes a huge wheel and plenty of time to "perfect" it, at least as much as possible by ear. Even though it's not the most sophisticated way, it works. The only foreseeable issue is that the music will remain static in one area and might not reach to other parts of the level. However, this could be fixed with pistons that push the music box behind the scenes of the level, but we would have to warn the user that pistons must be used and that it takes up two layers.

I didn't have LBP1 (I only borrowed a friend's every once and awhile) but is what I said above the same as a LBP1 music box?

Ahh I didn't even think about that... i assumed you used the merge materials glitch?

Exactly. You start the wheel big to make sure you have enough room but it can easily be shrunk (shrank? shrinked? lol) The music box usually works best with repetitive tunes, since lyrics can't be added obviously. You can make some pretty accurate remakes of tunes from games.

Brilliant. Lol I honestly don't know how I didn't come up with any of these ideas but hey, this is some great collaboration!

So now that we know the music box will definitely be a possibility, we can make it by starting big with only one thin layer (by merging the materials), then shrink it down to size, use the invisibility glitch, ensure it's dynamic, and push it along the path of the level with pistons. I'm likin the looks of this.

Actually to save time the music box can be as big as you want. Hide it somewhere, and just use an invisible gas block with the sound objects on it and push that through the level. (sounds easier right?)2011-04-26 03:41:00

There are two main issues with the music proposal.
1. The thermometer gets used up very quickly by that many magnetic keys etc
2. The music will not be universal. It will originate from one position in the level

I myself have thought many times of creating my own music, but it is too inconvenient

As for the fan made DLC, I actually had plans many times to do this! The catapult I created was part of a medieval pack I was making at the time.
Here's what I propose the packs should include:
-Characters (Well made characters in various poses. Perhaps made in separate parts so as the creator can put the pieces together themselves and also add motion)
-Font (One font per pack with a theme relevant to the pack)
-"Stickers" (Not quite stickers, but thin plane components that creators can simply stick on a wall. These could be trees, furniture, signs etc)
-Props (Objects that are both interactive and non interactive. These could be cars, buildings or special objects)
-Costume (Instructions on how to assemble relevant costumes and a visual of the finished product)
-Tutorials (A few tutorials per pack concentrating on effects that are based around the theme of the level pack. E.g. A tutorial on how to create a magic mirror for a magic pack)
-Example level (A short level put together exemplifying how the components should be used and showing the effectiveness of what was learnt in the tutorial)

Now all of those are realistic and would, in my opinion, be very popular with creators!
Well that's my 2 cents worth

This...thread...is...awesome! This thing could motivate us to do awesome things! Possibly I'll make a forest pack. I started making one, only I couldn't think of what else to put. I mean, c'mon! I wanted to do this in the NGP(look at bottom of sig.)!2011-04-26 06:38:00

Might I recommend the excellent "He's a Pirate (Pirates of the Caribbean)"? It's extremely well done.

1. The thermometer gets used up very quickly by that many magnetic keys etc
2. The music will not be universal. It will originate from one position in the level

1. This is true but I may have found a workaround. Yes the keys do take up a lot of thermometer space, but I believe that capturing the object eliminates the large amount of thermo taken up. The user will have to be notified that "The music box provided is fully copyable and can be edited. However, editing the object can be very tedious and is not needed! Since the object is rather large when it comes to the thermometer, simply use the 'Capture Tool,' and select the object from your goodies bag."
This will have to be experimented with thermo-wise, but I'm fairly certain it will eliminate a fair amount of thermo.

2. Again this is true, but I don't think that the sound comes from an origin. That being said, the sound(s) coming from the music box do come from a fixed-point, but I believe this point can be moved or pushed. (See a couple posts back) We can use pistons to push the music box along the path of the level to make it seem like it's universal. This will also have to be stated with the music box to notify the user.

That sounds great! But I was thinking we make these Community Projects so that everyone can be included and things can be perfected. You still can be in charge of the "Forest Pack" if you'd like though.

Good to see us all together working on a calm , capable project.

@Alismuffins : Firstly , Great To Have you back man! secondly , I think The Medival Pack Idea Could Influence Creators to Be well.....a bit more creative and Is something I always wanted to see. However How are we going to make stickers because the only way I think you can do this would Obstruct any Front thin Layer designs. Do we want that?

Ok

Thanks for the link!
And for the stickers like Alismuffin said, we're going to use a thin layer. Yes, the layers will affect any other thin layer area because they will not be able to be placed. However, there is another possible way to accomplish this.

1. The obvious way would be to corner edit or simply remove the thin layer in exchange for one of our "stickers."
2. Another option would be to use the "Merge Materials Glitch" (that's what I call it) and merge the stickers into the desired thin layer. For those of you who don't know, this glitch is very easy to do. Simply turn the material you want to add/fuse into gas material (any color it doesn't matter) and move the object into the correct layer. Once there, and this is the most important step, glue the gas object into the already occupied layer. Lastly, unlethalize it and it should show up. The reason I italicized 'should' is because it always works, yet it can't always be seen - meaning the object you want to be seen may not layer itself on top of the other layer, it may be vice versa. To counter this, the sticker must be of any glass material. This will ensure that the glass material always is seen on top of the other layer, unless of course that one's glass, in which case both are seen. Note that this normally works best for merging words or these "stickers" into backgrounds.

Ok,i think that this is a great idea.
I wanna help too (if you need it).
So if you need me im here somewhere.

Everyone's allowed to help! But wait! Don't just start creating to create because we're going to need a plan as to what kind of packs we're making. I'm thinking we only work on 1 or 2 at a time in order to maintain focus. Everyone can have a part, be it small or large, but this will be sorted out in a bit.

I believe Ricky3 already made a great one along with someone else. I'm glad to hear you're making your own though because it's a tricky thing to accomplish!

I'm going to request that this be made into a sticky thread! Also, I'm thinking we start brainstorming ideas for our first pack's topic. Any ideas? Here are mine:
- Car pack
- City pack (could work better than a cars pack because it's broader and could still include cars only as objects)
- Games pack (from board games to other video games, could work great with characters and music)

How about an LBP2 pack.

We can get people who have a PS3 and LBP2 to create that pack, since they(Including me) could recreate things more precisely.

Possible people:
Me
Val
Sketch
Silver
Spark
Hellobob
WoodburryRaider
(There are more, but I can't think of them. Sorry peoples.)

That could be an interesting idea. If you could provide some of the things that would be included (or examples of them) such as what characters stickers and objects would be created that would be great!

I never knew about that last part there since I always just got lucky that my "stickers" would show up. Now get back to work! School's important!

Sorry to break it to you, but community projects work out about 12% of the time. That 12% being pretty obvious if I do say so myself.

But I digress, my point is: give it a month. Don't get your hopes up or anyone else's. Because if you get too much excitement, it's that much worse when you have to shut it down.

Now, I'll happily contribute to this project. Until I'm the only one left, which seems to happen very often, then I'm afraid I'll have to leave as well.

I know I can't really be one to say this making Modern Warfare Survival and all, but LBP is a game for kids. That being said, I don't want our community at LBPC to promote war or violent ideas through a Community Project. It's still a great idea though and you can make you own level on the topic for sure. Any second opinions?

I love the fact that you came up with a random number that may or may not be close to accurate, but I have faith in this project.
I'm building excitement to encourage people to join and keep the project alive. I am also trying to get things done early, such as making this thread a sticky, in order to get this project underway while there is still activity. I know you're not trying to be a debyedowner (sorry if anyone's name is Debye), but it sure sounds negative. From now on, I respectfully ask that everyone please refrain from posting any negative comments because they're not doing any good especially when you don't know yourself how dedicated the team truly is. Thank you.

Heya guys. I put together a DLC sticker that we can use to help promote the DLC just like the DLC in the PSS. Everything is easily customizable (Background texture, colour, icons, text) so if I need to alter anything I will. I can composite objects and costumes from the pack onto this DLC sticker:

And here is a test to see how well LBP screenshots can be cut out

Hmm maybe I need to clarify. Most of you seem to understand but it sounds like some of you are going off and creating your own little packs by yourself. Now this is all fine and dandy but I want this to be a community project where we combine our ideas for one theme into one level, and publish them all from one account (I'm setting up a second one now). Everyone will get credit where credit is due but we need to come up with an idea for our first pack! So here's the suggestions that we have so far:

-Bakery Pack
-City Pack
-War Pack
-Games Pack

We need an idea so we know what theme we're doing. Then we can brainstorm the stickers, objects, characters, etc. and figure out who's making what. Just for now, I want to focus on one theme, but as soon as we get everything sorted out we can start thinking about the next one.

EDIT: I added a poll! Vote for either which pack you'd like to work on with us, or which one you'd like to see!

I'd be happy to help with object design.

Also, there's no reason to stop after one project... Given enough momentum and influx of new blood, we could keep this going indefinitely.

Also, how are stickers being done? O_o I'm confuzzled.

We're not stopping after one! We just want to get our first one underway so we at least get one published. There will surely be more to come after.

Read the OP to see how the stickers are being done, it explains all of it.

The "stick on a wall" part was confusing me because I keep reading this thread when tired. Implication being that the wall is a 1-thick-layer object, yes? Then count me in for stickers as well. Only DLC I have is free stuff, so no worries about stuff being DLC-locked from me.

Also, as a proposal for another theme (either to add to poll if possible -- I've never done polls on LBPC before -- or as a future project), MAD SCIENCE.

Yeah the stickers will be one thin layer and be "stickered" onto backgrounds and walls and such by gluing them or "merging" them with the merge materials glitch. I also only have the free DLC but I'm glad you reminded me about that. For your theme, what would you propose as some ideas for what sort of things would be in the actual pack? I don't think I can add it to the poll, but this one is set to close in 2 days so that I'll be able to put another one up.

I just replied to this and it got deleted when I hit "Submit Reply," ..awesome.

Lol yeah bakery seems odd, but I think mad science does as well. I also think it's better to have a more broad topic since there's more to do with it. I don't know exactly what you'd like in the "Mad Science" pack so could one of you care to elaborate? The whole science thing gave me another idea, maybe a school pack?

@Nys - Haha so Alismuffins makes sense because the muffins and all, but umm, nys cake? Why not throw in some Valmoss cookies while you're at it!? (Only kidding)

EDIT: I checked and I can't edit the poll. Luckily I remembered the last time I made a poll and how it couldn't be deleted or edited so I put that 2 day closing time on it. Hopefully at the end of it I can make a new one.

Mad Science Pack would be chemical filled beakers and vials, crazy characters, mutated monsters, elaborate machines. Pretty much an Old school evil villain, the kind you'd see in cartoons. I see it as Dr. Frankenstein if he wanted to take over the world.

BTW, the thing about being broad, is that it doesn't have that uniqueness that makes me say," sounds interesting, I'll go check it out."

Because If I had a choice between a City Pack and a Future Civilization Pack or an 1800s Pack. I'd go with the latter, again, my opinion.

EDIT: Last time I had a Valmoss cookie, I felt all bubbly inside.

I see what you both mean by the packs being more specific. I like the idea of having a more specific pack and the things we could do with the mad scientist concept. Since I can't edit the poll, should we just wait until it is finished and then I can add the winner of that one (and maybe 2nd place) into the next poll with Mad Scientist Pack and a couple other ideas? I think that's the best way and it gives this pack a sort of "Bye" if you will, into the next round of votes.

They look really good man! That's a pretty good pic too for a screenshot with a separate camera! The only question I have is what that white outline was around the cupcake? Maybe it's just hard to tell cuz of the pic, otherwise, great job!

Well first of all, thanks for the compliment! Second of all, the outline around the cupcake was made so it could look like an actual sticker.

I think a bakery pack would be fantastic! Though I am up for anything ^^
I can also make promotional videos using after effects. If someone can get footage from LBP and send it to me I can put it in an add and jazz it up!

Also I think that we should make a website for this sort of stuff, which I can also do.

But let's not worry about this stuff atm. Let's decide and get creating!

Nys...we're not making our own individually, we're deciding on which theme ALL of us are going to work on as a GROUP. We're not each making our own pack, or taking ideas, (Sackboy just made those on his own and will be used if we do make a bakery pack). One person will make some stickers, another one will do some and an object, another will do a character and the font, etc. (Not exactly that but you get the idea). We'll figure all that out after the polls are done!

I like the Hollywood idea. The font could be based on the Hollywood sign too! Characters wouldn't be hard at all, same with objects, and stickers and props could be figured out as well. The only thing is that there's already a whole story mode section based on that idea with Tinsel Town and I wouldn't want to feel like we're just repeating the same old stuff, we should do something new, at least to start. As for the replicas of us...haha well, I personally think that's a little arrogant but hey, if we make a bakery pack we can make chocolate statues of all of us!

(I realized that only I can see the results currently). I'll just reveal them now... so far, City Pack has 6, Bakery has 4, and Games has 2. (The results will be made public tomorrow automatically when the poll time ends).

That's why I was thinking a games pack, because it would be easy to come up with ideas for and the main creator base would like it. It would be fun to create a Classic Mario-themed level too and add in some other famous characters.

If we go with a games pack, I think we should not do a collection of games, but rather do one game per pack. For example we could have an individual pack for:
-Ratchet and Clank
-Final Fantasy
-Super Mario
-Pokemon
-Portal

Rather than have one pack that contains them all

Heya guys! I was thinking about how we would present our DLC packs. For our stickers, perhaps we could create a sticker palette and place them on there.
Here's what I mean:
http://i55.tinypic.com/2q8n47o.png

(Please note that these stickers were made for examle purposes and do not represent a finished product. Also note that there will be only one of each sticker placed on the palette. I only copied them so as I could fill up the palette to show you guys. The word "stickers" will be made of the font that the pack comes with.)

This also doubled as a test for how well of a picture I could get using my DSLR camera. Let me know what you think.

And here is a test of how well they can be cut out and how well they look when composited:

http://i51.tinypic.com/2zr2fir.png

(Note this will not be what the pack icons will look like, they will look alot better)

Let's think about the city pack since it looks like that's gonna win. It can be renamed to be more specific but I think having it like this allows us to be more open with our first pack and would be a great learning experience for us. Just my thoughts anyways.

As for this whole thread in general, I may or may not be able to get on the site after school today, and I'll be gone for most of the weekend. So sorry if I'm inactive for a little bit but hopefully I can at least check the poll after school to see what we're starting on for my road trip.

Ooh and as for Alismuffin's idea, another thing we could do is recreate that DLC Square Picture that dresses it up in Create Mode. I already started on it and it looks pretty cool. We could then use a piston to raise it up and unveil each section. I'm using a generic font for the words and the whole thing only takes up one thin layer. It's just a neat effect that'll make it all look more... "Official" if you will.

Give The-Questors level "Heart-break Haven" a play.
It has self-made music.

Ok everyone so here's an update:

I'm going to be out of town for the weekend until Sunday night so I'll be out of touch on here. It looks like the City Pack will win so let's start deciding on some ideas for it. I'll start on the font while I'm gone and take care of that along with some vehicles. The poll should end shortly like within the hour or so.

@Alismuffin - What I meant is that the thing that goes on top of your screenshots that says "PSP" on the pink PSP and the "DLC" on the blue wrapping over it I'm going to recreate. Sorry I'm rushed on time but it'll look cool, don't worry.

@sackboy7789 - Yeah, what Ali said. (Thanks Ali) We want at least someone else to look over what you've done in create mode to ensure that it is the best possible work we can put out there. I'm glad you're working ahead with your idea, but we need to work on these as a community and not individuals.

Now, Can I design the stickers for the city pack based on your guys' ideas? I will draw sketches of your ideas on my little "Pack Ideas" booklet. By the way, Why do we have a city pack, when there's tinsel town and the metropolis DLC? But never mind that, I'll still enjoy this project.

For that last part, touche my friend, touche... (Although it might be because no one had mentioned that before, it could also be because I don't have any of the DLC). Tinsel town isn't a city pack at all though, that's definitely more on the movies/director style of things.

Yes, but this is more tied to Earth with National landmarks and it also should be a bit more realistic. Not to the point where we'd destroy our brains working on every detail, but a type of comic book style should fit?2011-05-01 05:24:00

Yeah, I mean just take a look at some of the things I've put in my levels...oh wait I still haven't published that yet. *Runs and finds somewhere to hide* I guess take a look for now at my car levels. They're detailed, but we're not going to kill ourselves over how perfect they look, just so that people can look at it and say, "Yup, that's definitely that." I'm going to publish my new level as soon as PSN is up and it has some buildings and real-life objects from cities in it so it should give you a better idea of what we're looking for.

For what it's worth, this will be a really interesting project that I'm sure can help a large amount of the community to improve their levels. But this means, as alismuffin says, that you have to pay attention to detail and everything has to fit nicely
Good luck

-Cars
-Light up signs

Characters
-Construction worker
-Low class male and female
-Middle class male and female

I edited Ali's post with a couple more ideas and placed it in the OP:

Stickers (Only Use 1 Thin Layer)
-Multiple window styles (E.g square window, ornate window, circle window etc)
-Post Box
-A variety of trees
-City Signs
-Traffic Lights
-Famous Buildings

Large Objects (Use Multiple Layers Including At Least 1 Thick Layer)
-Famous Buildings (3D view of some of them)
-City Cars (Taxi, City Bus, School Bus, Limo, Sports Car, Basic Car)

Objects (Use Multiple Layers Including At Least 1 Thick Layer)
-Park Bench
-Light up signs (Use of emitters/pistons 'I can explain&apos
-Post Box (3D view)
-City Signs (3D view)

Characters
-Construction worker
-Low class male and female Everyday Male and Female (Sweatpants, T-shirt, etc.)
-Middle class male and female Working Male and Female (Nice shirt, pants/skirt, etc.)
-Upper class male and female Fancy Male and Female (Suit w/ tie/Dress w/ heels)

Font
-Theater/Casino-esque lettering with the dots on each letter that can "light up." We can just make them white.

Tutorials
-How to create an explosion
-How to implement parkour(free running) into a city environment using gameplay
-How to create an earthquake feel

What can I say, I love the list Ali! The parkour part is my favorite and it's in one of my levels I'm releasing.
Since I didn't want to say "Low/High Class Citizen," I changed them to "Everyday/Fancy." Also, I think we should include 3D models of some of the things Ali mentioned, as I edited above like City Signs that hang over the road thus taking up all the layers but being very skinny (See my level "A Lovely Drive"), and make things like the buildings not 2D, but 3D so that they can be walked on and grabbed, etc.

I'll add some of them to the list. Please don't go on creating everything you please as it makes me feel like we have to include whatever you create when we may not have agreed on some of the things in the first place. You're doing a great job for the most part, but some of your stickers could use some work. I don't want to be negative but we want everything to be top-notch so maybe spend some more on individual stickers and go for quality over quantity. Thanks.

EDIT: I added some of your best suggestions to the OP. I've already made several items before this whole DLC pack idea came along in the level I'm going to release ASAPSN is up. (Nice acronym right? lol). Some of the items I've made are: Large Generic Buildings, Skyways, Street Signs, Highway Signs, Construction Signs, Construction Site Scaffoldings, Construction Site Cranes, Helicopters, Cars, and Windows. Maybe I'll get some pictures of my level if PSN doesn't come up soon.

We don't need a scaffolding I already have several in my level but I'll still take a look at yours.

Ok since Nys and Sackboy7789 are going ahead and creating things already, I say we delegate who creates what for the City Pack. How about we all fill out this form:

What would you like to create for the City Pack? (Choose Only 1 Category For Now)
1. Stickers
2. Large Objects
3. Objects
4. Characters
5. Font
6. Tutorials

From your chosen category above, what would you like to create for the City Pack? See category limits below. For thermometer reasons, some things will be left out.

Tutorials (Limit 1 per creator)
-How to create an explosion
-How to implement parkour(free running) into a city environment using gameplay
-How to create an earthquake feel

As you can see, I've selected several from different categories because I've already made some. After we get going and people finish their chosen portions of the project, we can delegate who works on some of the leftover parts. For now however, please follow the guidelines in RED to keep things simple. Just because you finish creating a part of the pack doesn't mean it's ready to be published since we want them to represent top-quality work.

SEE OP FOR UPDATED LIST.

If by announcement level you mean a prologue type thing, then probably, but it'll be short. If we are going to do one I think I would just create it but include all of our signatures in it sort of like the Kindred project. So, EVERYONE who wants to participate or think they will at some point, if you want your name in the announcement of the project, just post here saying so and create a signature with your username in create mode! If you already have one from the "Next Top Creator" contest, great! Use that! If not, just make it so that it isn't too big and doesn't take up more than the screen size. Just capture it and save it in a prize bubble ready for me to collect when PSN gets back up! Just be sure that you're committed to helping out.

Not necessarily. Yes it'll work better if we want the creator to have full editing capabilities, but I think that for large objects such as cars, landmarks, and the font, we don't want the creator to be able to edit it. Yeah it would be neat if they could, but normal DLC doesn't allow you to corner edit the objects. It would allow scammers to take our creations, add something to them, and delete our names from the level saying they published it. Yeah I know this will happen anyways but at least they won't be able to say they made it from scratch. I agree though that we do need one level to hand around for everything else.

Another way this can work without using the Magic Crater Method is by making our levels copyable. Yes there's a risk involved with other creators randomly downloading our levels, but it's an extremely small small chance that'll happen. Plus, we can be private about it with PM's and communicate with each other about what time specifically we're going on (more than likely on weekends), and both be ready for the one person to publish while the other refreshes the community moon to download. (We can use LittleBigPlanetarium's chat feature as well to respond to each other quicker.)

I think we should for sure to the top idea for the large objects like I mentioned, and the second way is just a workaround. @Ali, if you want to set up the Magic Crater for later you can, as we'll probably end up using that for the final editing and publish.

Also, if there isn't going to be any corner editing, is there any reason we couldn't just put the stuff in copyable prize bubbles in a locked level?

Only for the landmarks and large objects. Everything else, which is most of the stuff, will be copyable since it is more basic.

The thing with large objects however is, and this applies specifically for font, the creator needs to be able to change the size of them to fit their level scale. Of course we could do alternative sized objects but quite frankly we would lose so much thermometer room. Another point is that raw objects take up less thermometer room than captured objects do. Even if I have to recreate every object anyone has made, I insist we do it this way. How many times have you guys wished you could make objects smaller? For example the soccerball.

"LittleBigPlanetarium's chat feature" ? What is this? >.< Ive never heard of it but it sounds epic. I think that our preferred method of transport should be magic crator, buuuuuut in cases where that is impossible, copyable levels can be a fallback.

Ah just thinking about it now, we need to type out a tutorial (I can do this) of how to effectively use the DLC packs. my main concern is the possibility that people want to use more than one DLC pack in their levels. In cases like those they would need to choose the DLC pack which contains the most of what they are going to use and then build their level in that. To put in other objects from other DLC packs they are going to need to go into each pack and pick out what they need, scale them to size and capture them to put in their level. They basically build up their own palette of what they need to use.

As for the stealing of our stuff and claiming it is their own creation, I have a witty idea on how to ensure that they can never give away the raw objects without being revealed for fraud. Other than that we can list our names in the promotional videos that I will make as well as on the website. No one else will be bothered to do that.

Also, let's not worry about the prologue or anything. Let's just get our DLC packs done and then worry about the rest.

Who has spent the most the on the city pack so far?

It isn't illegal >.<
And it has no risk on your game at all. The only risk it has is on your save data which, if you follow the instructions properly and back up your data, won't be an issue at all. And might I add, this method has worked 100% of the time for me. It's what Kindred used ^^

I lack a USB cord at the moment, but my work is in the appropriate crater for when I get one on payday. So in a couple-few days. Here are some photos of what I have.

One traffic cop signalling, while two sackpolice show their badges (one thin and one thick layer versions).

One blurry closeup of the 1-thick-layer version of the sackpolice.

One construction worker. Two sackforemen. Haven't these guys heard the expression about too many Chiefs and not enough Indians?

Again, a blurry closeup of the single-thick-layer version of the sackforeman.

I saw that you had posted that while I was asleep when I got up this morning but I didn't have enough time to respond so I just blindly thanked everything.

Some good points you bring up there. I like the idea of having everything copyable. One question, which exact crater are we using for the magic crater method? (both the location on my moon and the file names if those doesn't change). That way I know to keep it clean so I don't corrupt my data or overwrite anything.

As for the LittleBigPlanetarium chat, go check it out yourself! Here's the link: http://www.littlebigplanetarium.com/
The chat feature is very easy to use once you make an account (which is just like making one here on LBPC). I'm sure you can figure it out but all you do is click "Chat" in task bar and accept the terms (for some reason you have to everytime, it's a pain) and then it loads up the chat! Comphermc, who's very popular here and has some great levels, runs the site and I think it's great! I know PSP Creators like HelloBob5, Valmossoi, DizzyZebra, B3, and myself all have accounts there too.

As for the city pack, I haven't done anything so far, well at least nothing in its own level crater, just scattered throughout my levels in progress. I can recreate them however when it's my turn with the crater.

Cool Im loving the sackboy versions!!!

Ive been actually working on the website.

Check out what Ive done so far:

http://www.wix.com/alismuffin/lbpuserdlc

I will be making this a lot cooler. The main section Ive tinkered with is the DLC section.

Please note that all the content on there is sample content only which I spent no time in making xD

Woah I love the website! <3 I absolutely didn't expect anything like this when I first created this thread! Great work!

@ BlackWolfe -
Lol I didn't want to make this post any longer by quoting those pictures, but I wanted to say that those character models look really good! The one thing I think that could make them better is make them 1 THIN layer instead of 1 thick. It makes the character look better overall because it doesn't look right when the characters are thick since the game doesn't allow us to sticker the sides of objects. Besides that, great job! If you want some tricks on how to sticker character models more easily, shoot me a PM.

Thanks schark It was fun to make

And yes aceofthorns, Im positive. I worked on Kindred so I would know xD
That locked level was probably a play testing level

OK, you're working on the prologue.
but it'll need to be released by me or Sackboy7789
because my logo uses the "loved up" sticker.

@schark-: Nice sig, whats the precursor language saying ?
I unlocked the precursor-translator over at otzel.com but i'm too lazy to open the page and translate it.

Well we're not doing a prologue at least for now. Actually, I should have mentioned, you're going to have to take any DLC in your sig out of it since we're going to be releasing it on a second account where I don't have the DLC. Don't worry, you have plenty of time to change it though since we're working on the packs first. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Made 1-thin versions of the characters in addition to the ones I've shown here, which are animated characters like the ones in Story Mode -- which is why they're 1-thick + 1-thin. Problem with PSP charger, which will have to be replaced.2011-05-05 21:58:00

Great! Try a generic USB cord and plug it in to your computer to charge it if need be. (Mine was just an old digital camera charger.) The only issue is that you can't play while charging, and it has to be out of a game and on (in USB Mode). It doesn't take much longer to charge however since it can enter standby mode relatively quickly.

I've done that in the past, but don't have a USB cord either at the moment. At least not one that would connect to the PSP. It's on my to-do list for tonight: both a charger and a USB cord.

Either way Ali still has to recreate them so it's all good. As for your sig, be careful since it'll need to be capturable to be copyable into another level. If you can't capture it, I won't be able to either. If you can't get it to work it's all good though, don't stress over it since the announcement level won't be released for awhile.

My signature's okay for now, but I'm thinking of slapping a moon "behind" it (in bits and pieces in the gaps of the letters). PSP is charging RIGHT NOW. (Given how twitchy my (now old and no longer in use) charger was, you have no idea how exciting that is for me.

Also, I got one of those PSP-USB/PSP-Charger/PSP-GO-USB cords, so yay.

Heh. Right now, mine's based on the signature I use for my art (http://blackwolfe-coyoten.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d10ibkn) -- just the letters B and W inside a larger C. The C is roughly crescent-moon shaped, so I'm pretty happy with it.2011-05-07 00:19:00

That sounds good I'll sign you up for those. I hope you realize that you can't start on them yet unless you're willing to recreate them when it's your turn with the magic crater. Ali has it right now and I believe I'll be going next, you can have the third turn but because we want everything copyable and in one level, we're going to have to do it that way.

Nice Ali! I for one like the name but we'll wait to see what other people think of it. Maybe if we could include DLC in it instead of KITS because even though it isn't from the PSN, they are downloading it from the community moon and I think more people would want to see it. Just a thought but either way it looks fine.

For who gets the magic crater next, Cory can have it if he wants because I'm a little more busy than I expected. I don't have time to play on weekdays but I'll definitely be able to next weekend.

And the font is rounded arial ^^ Its very similar, if not the same as the one that the PSS uses on their DLC packs

Just a reminder to whoever is in possession of the crater, be careful when creating things so as to use the grid well. We don't want things scattered around in the upper left of the level and then some in the bottom right, just keep it all together. Good luck Cory you can get it to me whenever you're done and I'll work on it next weekend. I'll PM you my email that way you have it. 2011-05-07 20:31:00

I may have to lay off the sackpeople. Somehow, with very little beyond what I've already posted (I added a sack-SWAT member and a sackboy with a hammer and nail in both dynamic 1-thick and static 1-thin versions, as well as my signature with and without the moon (corner editing the moon was proving too fiddly, so it's just a circle with a sticker on a 1-thick layer behind the sig) and I'm already at 1/3 thermo. I think it's the sackpeople, but I'm not sure -- there were more in Memetic Hazard and they didn't take up that much thermo.2011-05-07 21:11:00

Hmm well I know that corner editing takes up the most space by far, but it is necessary to make them look as good as you have them. I don't think stickering them takes up too much thermo so it could be your sig. If I can, I'd recommend you separate your signature and characters into separate levels to work on. DON'T WORRY though because you can simply make another copy of your level, and delete the characters from one and the sig from the other. This way, you can tell just how much thermo each one takes up. The sig will only be necessary for the prologue/announcement level, but that won't be worked on until at least after the city pack is published. For the actual level, however, I think we'll make simple signatures with only our names in them in the same, standard font.

Quick question for anyone to answer- Which takes up more thermo, a captured object or a normal one (fully editable)? I assume it's the first since the latter has the ability to be edited more thoroughly while the first is set and thus must not take up as much thermo. This would affect whether or not we should make sigs now or later in a magic crater.

I was going to test that today, actually -- Make a big, complicated object (possibly copy-pasting a few copies, since those aren't the same as captured objects and are still editable) then capture it and put the same number of captured copies in a separate level. If the thermometers come out different, we'll have confirmation!2011-05-07 22:09:00

I think I have a better way of proving it. You do the same thing you said, but have two level copies. You start out by making a complicated object, without deleting anything (since that is rumored to affect the thermometer), and capture the object. (Make sure the thermometer is at a marking that is easy to remember. Save. Go into a blank level. Place the object into the level via the captured objects page and see if it equals the same amount. - Maybe that's what you meant, I'm gonna go try it out too.

EDIT: Ok so this is really interesting. I just tested out the same theory above and came to an surprising result. I started out by doing what I said I would above - Created a complex object. It took about precisely 1 notch of thermo. I then proceeded to capture the same object. I placed this captured object in the same level to see what would happen. (So there were 2 total of the same object). Strangely enough, there was no effect on the thermo. I saved the level and exited. I created a new, separate, blank level and placed the previously captured object in it. After doing so, the result appeared to be the same and it looked like the exact same amount of thermo was taken up. Now the strangest thing was yet to come. I went back into the original level with the 2 objects in it to see if it had gained more thermo. It hadn't. In fact, it lost thermo. I had heard before that going back into a level would add thermo to it and result in less space to create. This however, was completely unexpected since the thermo went down to virtually nothing.

The plan you put forward was basically what I was suggesting -- the reason for multiple objects was to amplify the difference between the thermometers.2011-05-07 23:18:00

I myself have done alot a lot of thermometer experimentation. In my experience, captured objects take up more room than a raw object. However, if you duplicate the raw object multiple times, the thermo is used up quite a bit so as it becomes the same as placing captured objects in your level. The interesting thing though is that even when I duplicate an object to fill the thermo, I can still add quite a bit.

The most useful piece of information I have gathered however is that if you change all the materials in your level to cardboard the thermometer dramatically defills leaving you room for more! And after adding more you can simply change the materials back.

Btw all the stickers I made are optimised to become usable stickers as soon as they are changed to glass material.

I always use that cardboard trick. Does it work just as good using all of one of a different material such as basic wood? I do it with whatever the most populous material in my level is at the time and then turn everything else into that material. I was wondering if making it cardboard works to the same degree or if it removes more thermo?

Gotta go no time to edit. Happy Mother's Day!

I ran a quick test on my contribution and here's what I encountered:
- When duplicating the level with nothing but captured objects, the thermo was exactly the same.
- Thermo use is approximately 60% sackpeople, 40% characters/"stickers".

Check with Cory via PM or something. I believe he still has the Crater. I practiced with the Casino Font in my level and it turned out pretty good, it looks like this: http://www.sostars.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/disco-inferno-casino.jpg

At first I actually built it out of single circle brush placements, but that shot the thermo up to nearly full, so I used stickers for the dots on normal sized letters and it still looks pretty awesome.

I've made a few signs. I have made:

1. A blank one (For people to make their own)
2. Crossroads
3. Sharp Left Turn
4. Sharp Right Turn (#3 flipped )

I'm using stickers for the arrows, and it's hard to make them exactly strait with each other, but I did find a way to do it. It takes a while, but it works. :/

Sounds good! To make them straight, I have several tricks you can do with the corner editor to keep corners symmetrical with each other without any careful nudging of the analog stick (although sometimes that is needed). Let me know when you're done with the crater Cory and send it to me in my email. I can work on it this weekend.

Are you on your PSP? It could be something with the browser not being powerful enough or something. If not, it's probably a problem with your computer since other people haven't had any trouble with it...

Keep up the good work Cory those signs look perfect.

I figured I'd revive this thread to see where everyone's at...(cough..cough Cory) JK! Take your time Cory, unless of course someone else would like an opportunity with the magic crater before me as I'm currently working on a couple PSP projects that I have on a higher priority than this at the moment. As for this, I came up with a cool looking font that I'll input when it's my turn with the crater and it doesn't take up nearly as much thermo as the old one. 2011-05-19 04:02:00

Sorry man. This is for LBP on PSP not LBP2. If you have LBP on PSP I'm sure we can work you into the project some how.

(This is in the PSP section, in the Ideas and Projects for PSP sub-forum, and the title even says for PSP! lol some people)

3. I have made Alien, an electric knight, Peter Griffin, a Mexican, Mr. Monopoly, a Chef (not origional), Private Investigator, etc.
4.These all were made on the PSP. I have posted my levels so just look up my name on the Community Moon. The level is ORIGIONAL Costumes (I didn't feel like retyping the caps button was on).
5. There are more or less 10 costumes out of the 60-ish I have.

Hey man I'm terribly sorry for telling you to go to PS3 I didn't mean to sound harsh. You can see with you being new and all along with all of the other lost creators how I could have mistook you for another lost PS3er right? I'll check out your level when I get the chance probably this weekend and see what you've done. Everyone's allowed to help out because this is a community project, but we do want people who are serious (not saying you aren't) because we are creating using the "Magic Crater" method. If you haven't heard of it, I know there's a thread about it somewhere on the site that you could probably search for pretty easily.
Sorry again. :

Its fine and understandable. Its just that I never really thought of joining LBP Central before. There aren't a lot of costumes (10ish) that I put because I was too lazy too add more as I am working on a snowboarding level. The costumes aren't perfect but they are recognizable. I have never heard of the 'Magic Crater' method so I will look for the thread. My finals end June 9th (Thursday next week) so I can also work on stickers (take up 1 thin layer).
I won't be free from June 11th to June 18th for Boy Scouts and June 28th for 2 weeks on a cruise and some touring of the west coast. June 18th is my b-day incase anybody cares.

For sure! What would'ya like to do? You can practice creating things now if you like, but we want everything to be copyable in the final version so we'll be taking turns creating in one level using the magic crater method.
I believe there's a sign up sheet somewhere...it might be in the OP but I don't remember.

Well I don't mind what you contribute even if it's a mixture of all sorts!

Wow a Taj Mahal would be fantastic! And a school bus is in need too!

Now you will have to wait to get the file until you create since we are putting the items in as raw items (Non captured)

I had an idea for the music boxes, Too make them work we use a stranded music box item we make, then we use the Logic that act's as a position tracker, and then we put the Sound emitting device's on the tracker, and thus it will be heard through most of the level, this idea might need some tweak's though2011-06-27 08:41:00

Hey Jesse! I checked out your level and it's great! Unfortunately it takes up a thin layer which could be used for level creation.

Perhaps we could create ambient noise sound whhels instead of/as well as music wheels? These would be used in survivals or only specific portions of the level ^^

Anyways I think we should get another pack going. How about it guys?

Sure thing. *Goes to make a few adjustments* We can have this be the City Pack thread and I'll make another one for whatever pack we decide on.

In my Crafty Cutscene level I have an ambient noise machine in parts of it where it creates a more epic feel than any of the given music could. I just use the low piano tones to create a base, and then add in actual bass to make it sound intense. The only problem with the music box is that I realized we can't build it in only one layer even with the merge materials glitch. This is because the music box needs a set piece that doesn't spin, and if it was "merged" or glued into the wheel, it would only spin with the wheel and play one note. Also, and I can't remember if I brought this up, but we can't shrink the music box either, as shrinking it doesn't also shrink the magnetic key switches' radii. This would result in all of the notes being played together, unless we could shrink each magnetic switch's radius individually and re-sync the whole thing making the starting big and shrinking later idea useless.

Wow those look really good. The phone booth looks a little familiar though...

We share levels using the magic crater method. Please read some of the previous pages along with the OP to get a better grasp of what's going on. You'll notice that we have a schedule that shows whose turn with the crater it is. This is because we want everything to be copyable so we create everything in one level and send it to one another.

This has been brought up before (by me actually), and one thing we agreed on as a group early on was that we want to make everything copyable for the creators to edit. That's why unless you want to create things twice, you should wait for your turn as you won't simply be able to capture your objects from one level into the shared crater, you'll have to create everything in the shared crater.

Yes of course you can! You have pretty good English, but I will try and keep it simple to explain this to you. The thing we are doing is using one level crater on "My Moon." We use a file share system that was named the "Magic Crater Method" awhile back. I believe someone posted the link to the method in here, but if you cannot find it, try using Google and searching "Magic Crater Method." The reason I am telling you this is because only one creator can work on creating something for the pack at a time, and you would have to wait for your turn on the schedule.
