LBP2 hates me!!!

Archive: 12 posts

*DISCLAIMER: THE FOLLOWING THREAD IS ABOUT DATA CORRUPTION. IF YOU ARE GOING TO LEAVE ANY NASTY AND VULGAR COMMENTS BELOW PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER READING THIS THREAD. I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE SOLUTIONS, LIKE BACK UP PROFILING, BUT THAT DIDN'T WORK FOR ME AND THIS PROBLEM PERSISTS ON LEECHING MY GAMING EXPERIENCE. SO ONCE AGAIN, IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO HELP, DON'T BOTHER READING. THANK YOU*

Well, as you read in the disclaimer my wretched data corruption dilemma has continued. I have posted a Help! thread before asking for tips on how to fix this menace. I received two solutions: rid my community materials of all it's glitched items and back up my profile. I did both and it did not work. I even tried deleting my LBP data and starting over the game. And to my unfortunate discovery my attempts failed. So I am literally desperate. I need some good answers. This is the means between whether I get to enjoy LBP2 to the fullest, or not be able to do anything original and be depressed for all of eternity !!! Please please PLEASE!!! HELP ME!!!

Thank you for your help

If you started completely over, it could it be an actual problem with the disk or your HDD. I don't see why your data would corrupt multiple times.2011-04-25 22:55:00

So what do you suggest I do. Get a new copy of LBP2? And how does the HDD come into play in this?

I'm not necessarily saying that that's whats wrong, but it could be. I had a copy of LBP1 where the music was screwed up and as soon as I got a new disk, problem solved.

As for the HDD, I have had HDDs that for some odd reason, refuse to save certain things and would just make the files corrupt if saved.

Just a few suggestions, as I'm not a computer/technology guru...

Old or crappy HDD's can be the cause.
an old ps3 or filth on the laser can cause the same.
having smoking people and animals are a big reason why my ps3 died on me.
(had more filth and cat-hairs in it than an actual cat has)

It's possible your PS3 hard drive has bad sectors on it (natural degradation, damage, manufacturing flaw) and that LBP is writing your profile along those bad sectors. That would make the most sense... not sure how a new disc copy of the game would improve things.2011-04-26 02:23:00

I know you say you don't need to be reminded and already tried this, but I have found only one solution:

1) Back up your profile and quit LBP2
2) Copy your saved data to a USB device or computer
-------------------------
3) Delete all game data from the PS3 ("Saved Data Utility (PS3™" and "Game Data Utility" on the XMB)
-------------------------
4) Start a new game of LBP2. Play until you reach your pod and can access the story levels
5) Import your profile at this point

It's important to delete from both areas.

What you probably don't need to do:
1) Don't need to buy a new PS3 or HDD
2) Don't need to buy a new LBP2 disc

If the problem persists then there's something deeper happening in your profile (I have never had this problem).
It's not HDD related or game related, it's just something terribly wrong in your profile.
You may have to abandon it and start a new game...
For this I am truly sorry.

I did it 2x myself (playing LBP1 and LBP2 100%) before discovering the above process.
I hate game corruptions and they seem to be entirely related to LBP2.

Good luck!

Looking at your previous threads, you said you imported an LBP1 profile after resetting the LBP2 one. Are you still doing this? Perhaps it's the LBP1 profile which is corrupted?

Thanks for the tips. That sounds reasonably simple. I'll try it out.

I'm pretty sure it's not my LBP1 file that's corrupted because if it was the same thing would be happening.

I'm pretty sure it's not my LBP1 file that's corrupted because if it was the same thing would be happening.

I had a corrupted LBP1 file and... yeah best thing I ever did was give up on it and start over. I bit the bullet found everything labelled LBP1 and 2 and killed it. I had to re-download all add ons also (PSN willing...).

Yes, I had to start over, but I didn't loose my trophies, and even though I had to re-collect everything, in the long run it saved time because now it all clean and backed up properly.

TIP: If you also start fresh with LBP1... REMEMBER to do the Create Tutorials. They give you a HEAP of stickers and stuff that I forgot about. I spent hours looking for that curs?d lion sticker for the skateboard level SO DON'T FORGET THE TUTORIALS!

If still no dice, I would probably point to a bad HDD, LBP is doing a lot of caching and saving, more than most games I'd hazard, explaining why it's as stable as a three legged table. A rapidly failing drive will not save properly and also cause bad writes, which is more noticeable in things that save lots.

As a rule of thumb I also avoid community levels that give glitched materials, as well as trying to glitch stuff myself. A quick list of recent glitches all result in breaking profiles, so better to stay away from the cans labeled 'worms'.

Although the 3D Camera, multi layer glitch and background-less sticker cans all contained delicious peaches.

I don't think it's a problem with my HDD because it hasn't happened to my brothers account and we use the same system.2011-05-05 19:46:00

Mabye the HDD is just has a "Disliking" to LBP2 if you want to put it that way. I mean it may just treat LBP2 saves differently. I am unsure because it seems odd but thats all the advice I can give you.2011-05-05 19:52:00
