Editing Objects?

Archive: 9 posts

It's entirely possible that I'm missing something obvious, but I'll go ahead and ask anyway.

There have been times where I've made something, and then saved it as an object for later use.

However, when I place this object, I can't seem to modify it in any way (I can tweak things that are tweakable, but that's about it). So, if I wanted to take a piece off for instance, I wouldn't be able to without deleting the entire object. It seems like it's the same problem if I, for whatever reason, wanted to edit one of the objects given out in story mode.

Simply put, I couldn't seem to find a way to edit an object without rebuilding it from scratch.

Well, for the most part, I have that problem when trying to edit objects that others have made, and I'm sure story items fall into that category. It's that way for obvious reason. I'm usually able to pull apart the objects that I've made/saved myself without a problem.

What you could do, is change all the parts that you want to remove into dissolve material, assuming the part is made of a "material," and hook all the changed parts up to a button. Press the button, and all the parts should disappear.

Maybe it has just been stuff by other people. I haven't exactly been paying attention. I could have sworn I had this happen to something of mine too.2008-12-04 03:49:00

This happens whenever you try to mess with other people's objects. This is to preserve other people's objects from being messed around with, but I'm sure it's also a memory issue. Sometimes this can occur with your own objects, I've noticed that when you emit it this happens, but I haven't narrowed down any other times it does. The solution? Two solutions, really.

1. Build anything you want to keep editable in another level then save it and port it over. When you want to edit it go to the other level.

2. After you build something, move it out of the way then save it as an object. You can delete it when the level is complete if you like.

I can confirm that this can definitely happen with your own saved objects. I can also confirm that you don't have to have an emitter for it to occur. I don't know what causes it exactly, though. Have you tried editing the object by drawing or deleting with a shape?2008-12-04 14:34:00

Same thing has happened to me with my own saved objects. Once you spawn them, you cant change them (except tweak). A thought has just occurred though.. if you push square while highlighting your object in the my objects menu, is there an option to copy protect it or something? maybe change this....?2008-12-05 00:03:00

I've noticed when you get the unglue bug it also unglues locked objects. I had the King from the story mode in my level and he just collapsed into little pieces. Would have been funny if the rest of my level hadn't colasped too.

Maybe this bug can abused for some good?

The unglue bug is normally caused by ungluing objects that are stuck together, gluing them, ungluing them, gluing them... do it enough times and you should get the bug.

The only two problems that I can see is that once you are in ungluable mode, you can't reglue them to anything. The other problem is that trying to capture just one part will likely capture all the other pieces as well. Same as deleting one part.

I just can't see the unglue bug ever being useful, to be honest.
