Ok this is a proper discussion about the current state of the PSN servers. Being from the UK, and the wondeful BBC always snooping around the odd things like this, I found some actually helpful information Millions of gamers are unable to play online as the Playstation Network remains unavailable. Users are seeing error messages stating the network is "undergoing maintenance" or is "suspended". In a blog post, makers Sony thanked users for their patience but warned the downtime - which has so far lasted more than 20 hours - could continue for "a day or two". In recent weeks, Playstation has been targeted by hackers group Anonymous. The group appeared to deny being responsible for the attack, releasing a message stating "for once we didn't do it". The network has more than 70 million users worldwide, but Sony were unable to clarify how many players had been affected. However, Twitter messages and blog posts have been posted from all over the world. The problems have also affected other services running on the network. Film rental site LoveFilm confirmed to the BBC that their customers are currently unable to stream films when using the Playstation service. This outage is the latest in a series of problems for the network which has suffered extended periods of downtime over the past few weeks. In response, angry gamers have flooded blogs, forums and Twitter with complaints. "A full day and you guys still have no clue what is causing this," wrote user Slickshoes in response to the company's blog post. 'Poor timing' Another user, Max Smith, contacted the BBC to share his frustration that Sony is not keeping gamers better informed. "To be honest I think that Sony need to give more updates towards the gamers via their Twitter account. There has been no update in the past 18 hours which is really making the community go crazy," he said. Oli Welsh, from Eurogamer.net, said the outage is a big problem for Sony - especially at Easter. "As much as the weather's lovely, a lot of gamers will be looking forward to tucking in to their favourite hobby this week. "It's also a pretty big week for new releases, the biggest we've had in a couple of months. There's one really key game coming out called Portal 2 which has a great online mode that a lot of people now won't be able to access straight away. "For gamers it's a shame, and for Sony it's a problem." Anonymous, the group which gained notoriety over Wikileaks-related attacks, has previously strongly criticised the Japan-based entertainment giant over its treatment of George Hotz, an American hacker who unlocked the games console's closed operating system. Sony filed a lawsuit against the 21-year-old, arguing that his hack had allowed pirated games to be played on the machine. The case was dropped earlier this month after Mr Hotz agreed to sign an injunction banning him from similar behaviour in future. A spokesperson for Sony was unavailable for comment. It's no big deal for me the sun is shinning there's plenty more to do than ps3 plus most games have great offline features to enjoy such as in lbp you can create a level in peace you could play the wonderful story mode

Hazbell, figures you'd be from the UK... At any rate, we're closing in on the 2 day maximum time frame Sony listed. Personally, I think its no coincidence that PSN, Amazon, and several otehr sites went suddenly offline on the day Skynet is supposed to become self-aware... Great job, Sony, you brought about the apocalypse. Way to go. And to think Torgo actually predicted this...

lrn2context. You saw the words "Good job Sony" and completely blanked out every single other word in my post. What I said was NOT "Great job sony for having PSN downtime". Try reading the sentences surrounding that one. It was "Great job sony for bringing about the apocalypse by making PSN so huge it became self aware and has become Skynet". Sentences that precede and procede one another are generally linked, topic-wise.

Also, on the rumors that Anonymous did this. Now, Anonymous ALWAYS claims their attacks. Every single one. Why? Because the attacks they perform have a message bhind them. If they do not own the attack, the message they are trying to deliver is lost. Thus, if they refuse to own up to an attack, their message is not known, and the attack is pointless and delivers no meaning. This is why Anonymous always announces an attack before doing so, announces their reasons, and then afterwards if questioned will say they were, in fact, responsible for the attack. I will not entertain any response as to whether or not I am a member of anonymous, but anonymous is not, as some believe, a single entity that moves with a single purpose. THere are those in anonymous who completely disagreed with Geohot and though he got what he deserved. There are those that agreed with his actions but did not participate in the attacks. And then there are those that engaged in the DDOS attacks against sony. THree definite factions, all within the same group. Anonymous is not an organization, it has no leaders. It is just a like-minded group of anonymous individuals who believe in self-policing the internet and maintaining free speech. To summarize, Anonymous did not do this. You know this simply because they said they did not do it, and no one from Anonymous has come forward and claimed responsibility- Something Anonymous ALWAYS does if they perform an attack. This is something else entirely. THough I do make a prediction- Sony will very well blame anonymous anyway, because Anonymous is an obvious target. If it was Anonymous's fault, all the plus members who did not recieve service will just have to be angry at Anonymous since it was through no fault of Sony. But Sony were to say it was their fault, then the Plus members could demand compensation from Sony for inability to render a service they are paying for. Its simple PR. This is why the blogs list "Possible third party actions" as a potential cause- As has been stated, the move to the new servers at Prolexic is the most likely cause for the downtime, and Sony undoubtedly knows this. Anonymous just makes a convenient scapegoat.

It has been (over) 48 hours. Where is my PSN Sony? Where is at least an update on what is going on Sony? THe userbase is growing steadily more and more aggravated at this nonsense.

I dont believe a word of it. Doing a traceroute through the servers goes through the PSN servers and successfully connects with the Prolexic servers (Though this is simply to tell your PS3 that the PSN is down). If this were a cyber attack, you would not be getting that response from the servers.
