Congratulations, Sony. You have now received the undivided attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal action against our fellow hackers, GeoHot and Graf_Chokolo, has not only alarmed us, it has been deemed wholly unforgivable. You have abused the judical system in an attempt to censor information on how your products work. You have have victimized your own customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target every person who seeks this information. In doing so you have violated the privacy of thousands. This is the information they were willing to teach to the world for free. The very same information you wish to suppress for sake of corperate greed and complete control of the users. Now you will experience the wrath of Anonymous. You saw a hornets nest and stuck your [CENSORED] in it. You must face the consequences of your actions, Anonymous style. Knowledge is Free. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not Forgive. We do not forget. Expect us. I'd like to say I am NOT part of this xD Just found it out and it interested me and I thought you might be interested to know why too. I thought it was PSN being a dope at first. Guess we just got to sit tight until the war dies down. Oh well... | 2011-04-22 19:33:00 Author: Unknown User |
To put it in layman's terms, /v/arious members of 4chan, among other popular image boards, are mad that some hackers got what was coming to them. | 2011-04-22 19:46:00 Author: Chdonga Posts: 388 |

To quote Aya from the other thread like this: Not at the moment. Just confirmed with a packet sniffer to find out what's actually happening. Upon attempting to sign in to the PSN (at least in the UK), the PS3 first requests this file (http://fuk01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/list/uk/ps3-updatelist.txt) hosted at Akamai (http://www.akamai.com/), which contains information on the latest firmware update, and where to download it from, which works correctly. After that it attempts to connect via a secure connection to a page on this server (https://auth.np.ac.playstation.net/) hosted at Prolexic (http://www.prolexic.com/), which also works correctly, albeit just to tell the PS3 that the PSN is down. If it were being DDoS'd you wouldn't get that reply. Now, Sony have only recently moved the PSN authentication service to machines at Prolexic which are much more resilient to DDoS attacks. There's a fairly good explanation of the SYN flooding variants here (http://www.grc.com/r&d/nomoredos1.htm), and what can be done to prevent them. Even with a syncookies-type solution, a large amount of valid web-based traffic can still cause excessive database load, but fortunately, the authentication process is encrypted and unspoofable, so all they need to do is have a relatively large webserver cluster at Prolexic which discards all bogus sign-in attempts, and passes the valid ones on to the PSN authentication system. The result is, PSN can't really be attacked any more through this vector. However, there are still a few remaining attack vectors, most notably the web-based interface to the sign-in system used on store.playstation.com which can be spoofed, and thus put a huge strain on their database servers, but that system is not currently operational, so it must've been deliberately taken offline by someone at Sony. From Sony's comments, all they've really said so far is that the downtime was unexpected, and assuming that's true, we still don't know whether their reasons for disabling the PSN was due to an earlier attack by an external group or some idiot at Sony accidentally pressing the wrong button. Either way, no-one's attacking the system right now. That's why it's down. On a related note, I find the message from Anonymous hilarious....no, pretensions is a more suitable word. I think they've been reading up on villains speeches from comic books. | 2011-04-22 19:55:00 Author: Mr_T-Shirt Posts: 1477 |
The statement you quoted is from earlier this month, not yesterday (when the PSN began experiencing problems.) Indeed, Anonymous has issued a statement saying they didn't do it. For now, this is just another internet rumor. | 2011-04-22 19:56:00 Author: schm0 Posts: 1239 |

Dunno if they would keep targeting Sony. The ones that are suffering the most are the consumers. Unless they're planning to do the biggest troll act in the world. | 2011-04-22 19:59:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
No, you need to learn: When a rough group says they are nothing to do with it, then don't think "Oh well that's ok then. Carry on!" Since they know people are dumb enough not to think about that, they go ahead and say it, but still are linked to the events one way or another. Though yet again, you could be entirely correct. But a lot of people were p****d off with Sony removing useful tool features from the PS3 due to someone stumbling on a way to get it to run how they want. Even I am. I modified my Linux partition to run Windows XP. Made a good high-end computer for gaming. Oh well | 2011-04-22 19:59:00 Author: Unknown User |

Unless you're a spokesperson for the group that calls themselves Anonymous, your theory is still, well... a theory. Fact is that reputable news sources have all confirmed that the same group behind previous Anonymous attacks has denied any involvement in the current PSN problems. Think what you will, but it's still just a rumor. Though yet again, you could be entirely correct. | 2011-04-22 21:02:00 Author: schm0 Posts: 1239 |

This war with sony and those hackers who call themselves anonymous is just pathetic. I can understand why Sony wanted to press charges against Geroge Haltz and I can understand the point that Anonymous is making by owning a product, it's yours to do what you like with it, though there's one thing i don't anonymous understands. When you buy a product, you own that product, for example, a PS3, you own the system, it's yours, mess with it all you like. Though when you buy the system, the software used in the system is copyright, and you can not mess with that and give it out or sell it without breaking the law, this is what anonymous is doing and is breaking the law without fully understanding that they are doing so. Tampering with the iphone is legal, tampering with the PS3 is illegal, that i don't understand and for that I agree with anonymous for their actions and efforts to change that for better, or for worse. Dispite me being neutral on this war, i'm more towards being in favor with Sony due to the attack anonymous has unleashed upon Sony has had more of an impact on the gamers of PSN, not Sony themselves. If anonymous is going to attack sony, do it by taking down their site and/or doing attack based things to things that don't effect the innocent customers of Sony who just buy their product and play it for the fun of the entertainment system. The costumers buy the product knowing what it has and what to expect, then we get this attack with disables our PSN and the gaming experience, also for those gamers who play for playstation plus and various other online games which require monthly based payments, it just isn't fair, were losing out because of a war against a company who we merely buy products from, not worship or praise. To anonymous. We, as gamers, only wish for the access to PSN once more and for it to remain this way for as long as our gaming desires continue without these attacks that effect us gamers more than the people responsable behind the faults in which this war was started. Some will disagree with your actions, some will agree and some will remain neutral, i for one am neither against or for your actions, i understand both sides to this war, but it has got to stop otherwise your message, "were on your side" looks dim as your ruining the experience for us. To Sony. Get the issues fixed. Whatever the issue is, hacker based or system crashing, get it fixed. There are millions of gamers waiting for the PSN experience to be online once more, to enjoy the sweet company of our many online gaming buddies, sort it out sony To anyone reading this post I feel i had to share. If anyone has any insight has to the time the PSN is going to be back online, please, post it in here so I, as well as many gaming fans will have some good news to look forward to and so we can exit this cloud of darkness. Also, sony released a comment saying, "it may be a day or two before the network is online", coming up tonight, 22/04/11 will be the end of day two, so going by sonys word, the network should be online by midnight tonight, however, the way things are looking, this seems like a serious matter involving attackers for anonymous and many illegal complications which may drag this war on further. Another statement that anonymous has given that may suggestion this is not the end is " We shall not give up this attack until we are completely satisfied". Their recent actions show they are far from happy, which further suggests this may be on the beginning. For those that are not familuar with anonymous or the attacks against sony, I suggest heading to Youtube or Google and looking up some information or videos that give information on these attacks that became just a little while ago. Also, there are various videos on Youtube showing threats to sony from anonymous, also showing the original videos released by anonymous suggesting further attacks. Warning: These videos may be somewhat scary and frightning to the lower or less mature consumers and age groups. The threats are based at sony, not you, do not fear for there is nothing to be afraid off. I'll leave off by saying I hope this issue is sorted out soon for the benefits of the gaming community and those who have recently purchased portal 2 and/or mortal kombat. Good luck sony, and hope to see everyone back online in the next few days. | 2011-04-22 22:08:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'm pretty D.A.M.N sure hackers are behind this case. Why? Well PSN to be offline for 2 days straight is a very unusual case. A large company with millions of paying customers would no way keep their online services down for that period of time. If it was maintinance then they would of got them back up now in most regions (PSN Status: Partially Online) or got the entire network back up and continue fixing up small problems over time as server farms can be attended to, one by one and not as an entire group. Also the fact that Sony hasn't placed anywhere around the internet about the servers being off for 2+ days (Planned) or a catastrophic failure has caused them to be placed offline. So... yeah. I presume hackers are at the root of this issue. | 2011-04-22 22:11:00 Author: Unknown User |
meh i couldve get a ps3 if that model was still buyable my dad wants to buy one if it can play ps2 games but since the ps3 now cannot do that ... it seems ill need to buy one myself :/ | 2011-04-22 22:15:00 Author: nysudyrgh Posts: 5482 |
I for one believe Anonymous themselves are behind this attack, dispite their ealier statement of stopping attacks against sony due to it effecting the gaming costumers more than sony themselves, which at the time seemed like Anonymous cared for the gaming costumers, but now, as this two day blackout continues without any past warning as to this outage, I believe it was unexpected and sony have their hands deep in the hackers crap once more. Though, sony said it should be a day or two before it's back up, and i read somewhere that it would be saturday it would be up and running, being tomorrow.. Usally i wouldn't take much notice to a estimate of the servers being online once again, but sony obviously released that information knowing the problem is repairable otherwise they wouldn't have said that server would be back online in the few days, kinda makes sense in a way, though all we can do is sit tight and hope for some insight as to the network status changing. I expect either by tomorrow morning, or sunday morning the issues would have been fixed or the attacks died off. | 2011-04-22 22:25:00 Author: Unknown User |
meh i couldve get a ps3 if that model was still buyable my dad wants to buy one if it can play ps2 games but since the ps3 now cannot do that ... it seems ill need to buy one myself :/ 60GB PS3's are very rare these days. You can mostly find faulty/second hand 60GB PS3's on sites such as ebay. But a brand spanking new 60GB is pretty much a rare sight these days, and an expensive one. I was lucky enough to buy a 60GB back before they went Ubber Rip-Off Style and they sold the 60GB model. It last almost a year but then it broke. Under warrenty I got it replaced with another 60GB. Now long story short, I have had 12 Refurb PS3's from Sony. They're that rubbish. I even had one which on first boot-up, had the Yellow Light of Death! Now that was pathetic. The one I currently have though has lasted over 4 months and is working fine Irony here, when they jailbroke the PS3, they found a way to emulate Playstation 2 backwards compatability via software. Sony didn't even like that. However you can always use software emulation on your PC to play PS2 games. I do that sometimes. Majorlly upscales the graphics! | 2011-04-22 22:26:00 Author: Unknown User |

Those codes seem to be information about the players commenting here in this thread, am I correct? The citys were a hint, and the IP addresses to the right give me a hint as to the computers being active at this minute, though is is my guess, i'm no hacker and i sure to hell don't know anything about codes.. To me it's as complicated as the reason for living, which by the way, anyone got any ideas as to why life exsists? My theory is we live on earth because we aren't able to reach Littlebigplanet yet, though, i hope we find the tehnology soon XD Oh, that's another reason Anonymous is attacked Sony, because of something called Scientology or something.. Idk, guessing it's gaming crap | 2011-04-22 22:49:00 Author: Unknown User |
The PSN's down? OH GOD IT'S HACKERS OH GOD HIDE YOUR CHILDREN OH GOD NOTHING'S SAFE THE WORLD IS ENDING ANONYMOUS WINS This sounds familiar. Things will inevitably be okay. | 2011-04-22 22:50:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |

No that's the route from my Server computer to the LBPCentral servers. I have to go through all of that junk just to get here which explains the sites slow loading. Sad to see such a popular site not hosting their own servers. You can even ftp your way into the system. I did *Cough* Infraction Coming this way. | 2011-04-22 22:53:00 Author: Unknown User |
To Littlebigender: Anonymous have hacked into Sony, and many other coorpiations in the time they have exsited. The reason for them going silent is because they were trying to find another method to attack sony without effecting the costumers, though i guess they didn't find a way so they came back for another attack, this time bigger and more serious. They also stated in a threat video to sony that this was only the beginning and they won't stop until they are satisfied. If they can hack sony, why do we think of ourselves as safe? We are not safe and in a video on youtube, then targeted the employess and the familys of the employess, which crosses the lines of endangering the kids of the workers familys for something a single deperatment of sony's company deals with. Anonymous is still alive, and very well. They aren't messing around and they intend to get what they want, which is crushing sony. If they succed, no more games, no more sony. All is lost. | 2011-04-22 22:54:00 Author: Unknown User |

Oh, one last thing. As for the fsixth post, i saw and read it before hand, though I don't see it being the cause of Sony's network problems, I mean it's highly unlikely that it would be caused by that aposed to the recent hackers that have threatend sony and told em to expect em.. | 2011-04-22 23:08:00 Author: Unknown User |
