Scoring Trouble

Archive: 8 posts

Hey folks,
In my current project i've designed emplacements that kill hordes of oncoming baddies. I've assigned the baddies a tag sensor that detects my custom projectiles, and through a counter eventually destroys the enemy as well as awarding points for the murder. My problem is that while this all functions properly, the points appear over the dead enemy in black and don't actually tally to the total. Any suggestions about what i'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

first, try it in play mode

if it doesnt work
make it emit a tag and have a sensor on ur base to give u the score

or give the score to everyone

where in the chain of logic is the score sensor? I'm assuming from your description that you have it connected to the counter output which might actually be part of the problem. there's a post on here i read the other day about player data being transferred through logic... i'll try to find it and post a link. it may answer your question (or at least identify the problem).

edit: okay, scratch that. the counter should be fine. but this is still a good link: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=48588

somewhere in the logic the game is forgetting who caused the score sensor to go off.

For a breakdown i've got a tag sensor connected to a 5 point counter so the enemy can detect my custom projectiles. The output of the counter goes to a destroyer and score giver. The destroyer works fine, and the score giver does grant the correct score, but the number text on screen is black and the 10 points is not actually added to the total. Allowing all players to recieve the score works to correct it, but If i decide to make this a versus game at a later date, I'm still going to need to solve this.2011-04-22 14:29:00

Black scores indicate that nobody is receiving points, as I'm sure you're aware of by now. I've encountered this at least once in every level I've built so far that uses score givers. The solution is unclear, because scores should be going to everyone (white text) or to a single player (player colored text).

From what I can tell, the problem is usually solved by restarting LBP2 or your PS3. Jumping in between play and create doesn't usually fix anything. The problem has always gone away for me on it's own, usually following a restart.

I see ...i'll give that a go. Thanx for the help. On another topic...i'm wondering if there's a way to emit an object but maintain a button connection to the controllinator. For example i want to be able to mouse over an emplacement to upgrade to the next one. I've found a work around using holograms, but i'd prefer to just have an object oriented approach. I'm sure i saw a vid with the creator placing a controllinator button right on the microchip, but i can't find it anywhere.2011-04-22 18:14:00

You could do it through tags and tag sensors or by having your controlinator set to "transmitter" and put a controlinator on the emitted object that would be a "receiver" of the same color.2011-04-22 19:26:00

Score givers bug out differently between versus and co-op levels. Is your game top down or side scrolling? If the score giver is active at the exact same time as the destroyer (or sometimes even .1 seconds after) I think this confuses the score giver. If its top down or your using a sackbot or using a controlinator for either of them, Foofles actually game me a pretty good tip on how to get it to work MOST of the time. Connect an AND gate to the score giver with the "controlinator input active" in one of the AND gates slot and whatever it is giving the score (I believe you said tag sensor right?) to the other slot.. I have this set up and it works about 90% of the time.. and its the best working set up Ive made... but also my game is top down and versus so it may behave differently in yours if you have a different set up.. hope this helps..2011-04-23 19:44:00
