PSN servers down

Archive: 20 posts

Hi, all! This isnt really about lbp psp. But ever since i updated my psp to firmware 6.38 i havent been able to connect to the psn. It just loads for a while and says "connection to the playstation network timed out". Im really annoyed because i havent been on to check up on new levels. Has anyone been able to get on after updating?2011-04-21 06:57:00

I have, but you have to repeatedly try to connect until it says, "a connection error has occured". Then when you try once after that happens it should connect. Then you can do whatever. Just don't put your PSP on sleep!2011-04-21 07:41:00

On the Eurogamer website they say that Sony are doing a bit of maintenance.
From reading the comments it seems that the EU, USA, Australia and South Africa have been down for the last 6 hours.
Sony are starting to annoy me now...but i guess that we don't pay for this service (like Xbox) so what do we expect for nothing?

not paying directly for this service is no excuse for psn to be lousy (not that i agree they are lousy)
And we do pay for this service by buying their products which one of the main attractions is connectivity and their products would not be sold nearly as much without

I wouldn't say it's lousy, sure it's down for a bit now which is annoying if you wanna get online, but to be fair this isn't a regular occurence. Also with any luck they're making changes that'll stop this happening lots in the future.

Chins up boys!

Yeah I wouldn't say lousy or anything because they are fixing the system and probably figure many of its users are at work or school currently (I'm only on break).

Exactly. They're probably simply making it harder for hackers to hack the system. Also, they could be adding a feature of some sort considering maintenance normally doesn't take this long or happen during the daytime (in my time zone).

I'm guessing it's just some prep stuff for the NGP.

Anyway, whatever it is, the PSN has been down for well over 24 hours, so it must be something big.

This is taken from the official LBP2 Facebook page

VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT CONCERNING THE PSN OUTAGE!

On 2 April 2011 Anonymous (ANON) launched an attack on the media giant Sony, Named #opsony, it is a part of the Operation Payback (http://www.pcworld.com/article/224360/anonymous_launches_attack_against_sony_ps3_website s.html ). Anonymous claims the attack a success after they took down the PlayStation Network and other related PlayStation Websites. The PlayStation Network subsequently has had repeated outages, although Anonymous claims that this is not due to any officially-sanctioned action on their part. They say "for once we didn't do it".

The PSN is still down because of a hack and will remain out of service for another while yet (maybe 1 or 2 more days).
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13169518

DO NOT log onto the PSN (could be dangerous).
DO NOT enter ANY personal information (credit card information etc.) until the PSN website says its OK.
DO NOT enter any codes (crown codes, promotion codes etc.)
Doing any of the above is UNSAFE!

DON'T WORRY! Everyone's account details and credit card info is safe, as long as you haven't entered it or used it on the PSN over the last couple of days during the downtime.

Even once the PSN website says it's OK to "carry on as usual", please wait at least 2 hours to make sure it's a legitimate announcement. We don't know what the hackers can do, or what control they have over the PSN so don't rush to log in once it says it's "back online".

We recommend not purchasing anything on the PSN until it's 100% sure that it's back in safe hands. We'll keep you updated. But for the moment, you should be patient and don't worry about it.

Naughty hackers!
In the meantime, here's a cute puppy

...its then followed by an image of a cute puppy...

Then

The PSN is still down because of a hack and will remain out of service for another while. DO NOT enter ANY personal information (credit card information etc.) until the PSN website says its OK. Even once the PSN website says it's OK, please wait at least 2 hours to make sure it's a legitimate announcement.

Seems pretty serious...

Obviously you weren't on yesterday or all of today then. Whether it's an attack from an ignorant group (offense relatively intended) or a server malfunction, it doesn't really matter since either way we don't have PSN until whatever is fixed. Either way I assume plenty of people are working on the problem, OR like no one else has been considering, Sony is working on a big update of some sort. Who knows? Maybe everyone will get a free virtual "Premium" avatar! Yay!

They've finally updated the KB answer about this with more information, confirming that they took it offline in response to recent attacks.

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. (http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=2185) In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.

Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter.

During this time you may:

* Not be able to access the PlayStation?Store
* Have difficulty signing in to the PlayStation?Network
* Not be able to play online games
* See a maintenance page when attempting to access the PlayStation?Network

Note: When you log into the PlayStation Network, a message may appear which states, "the PlayStation Network has been suspended". This does not mean that your account has been suspended; it simply means the PlayStation Network has been taken offline. Please wait until the maintenance window has passed before attempting to connect to the PlayStation Network again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

EDIT: Correction, their choice of the word "intrusion" was more deliberate than I gave them credit for. Removed "DDOS" qualifier from original post.
