motor bolt strength help

Archive: 8 posts

I was making an obstacle using platforms that move on a motor bolt and you walk along them as they turn, and I noticed MM never fixed the bug where your weight still effects the platforms even though motor bolt strength is 100.

In other words I dont want your weight while walking or jumping on motor bolt plats to nudge the platforms or stop them, etc. I want them to move constantly without your movements effecting them.

How is this done? I've seen people do it in LBP1 where weight doesn't effect it. I know in LBP1 by making the bolt large as possible helped a little. Doesn't seem to work in 2.

Try to add a anti-gravity tweaker to the platform, since it's bolted it should be ok, if I'm correct.2011-04-21 02:01:00

You could try using a regular bolt and spin it with a rotator. I'm not sure if that will work but it seems like it would.2011-04-21 05:28:00

If your platforms are always supposed to be facing in the same direction, you can probably counter this using a gyroscope.2011-04-21 05:51:00

Movers and anti gravity tweakers do not have an effect on how your sack person's weight effects it. And to double check I went I tried every suggestion here to be sure my memory wasn't wrong. But thank you anyways.

I'm still open for suggestions if anyone out there knows.

I actually just thought of an idea that might work. One thing I know about motor bolts is that the larger the object its attached to the less the object's rotation will be affected by sacks movements. So I think I'll go try using a large invisible holo square and have that bolted with the motor bolt and simply glue the actual small square players move on in center of holo.

In meantime I'm still up for suggestions. ^^

Another thing to try is change the material of the platform to something very heavy, I believe the heavier the material the less effect sackboys weight should have. To check weight: "You can find out the weight of a shape by placing an In/Out Mover on it, closing your Popit completely, making sure you're not in Pause Mode, and then opening the In/Out Mover's tweak menu. The weight will be shown under Current Weight."2011-04-21 06:28:00

It's not a bug; that's exactly how it's intended to work. It can be a bit annoying sometimes, though.

Close. It's the mass of the object, not the size, so adding a large block of hologram isn't going to help much 'cuz holo's mass is infinitesimally small. A ginormous 3 layer block of holo might do the trick but generally it's easier to to just increase the mass of the platform by changing it to metal or something.

One nice thing about movers/rotators is their strengths stack. Meaning if you use two rotators, the strength of the rotation will be double. If you were to use a loose bolt and stack 3 or 4 rotators, the combined strength might be enough to keep your sack from messing the platforms up and then you wouldn't have to increase the mass.
