Logic Inconsistency?

Archive: 13 posts

I set up a 5-hit Health System for a new level I'm working on. On the fifth health indicator I put a Tag named: "Health Indicators 4 - 5" that would send a signal to a Tag Sensor, named the same and with the same color, on the Microchip of the whole health system.

If the player was hit, then the fifth health indicator would shut off and if hit again, the fourth would follow suit, etc.

At one point, I realized that the player would need more health, so I made the whole thing into a 7-hit Health System. Then I moved the Tag that was on the fifth health indicator to the seventh health indicator that I had just made. Now, everything was working fine and dandy up until I changed the name of the Tag and Tag Sensor that received the specified Tag's signal to "Health Indicators 6 - 7" to accommodate the change I had made to the system.

All of a sudden, instead of only shutting off one health indicator, like it did before I changed the Tag names, it took away four of them.

Extra Information: I did not have any other Tag Sensors looking for a Tag with the Tag names mentioned above. It was only the one I specified on top. I am absolutely sure that it malfunctioned only when I changed the Tag names. When editing the Tag names, I did not tamper with the rest of the logic I had on the Microchip.

Is this a glitch or just a mistake on my part?

It could be a bug (I would hope not) but, to me anyway, it sounds more likely that you've done something to it yourself that you haven't realised. I've made heaps of little mistakes that I didn't realise before. I just had to methodically go through all my logic until I found the cause.2011-04-20 05:07:00

Do you mind if I add you on PSN, so I could show you the issue more closely?

Is it possible that you still have the tag hooked up to another piece of the health system? I can take a look at it sometime if you want to add... You may have more than one piece of health coming off for two different tags that otherwise would be fine if both tags had the same name.2011-04-20 13:45:00

Thanks for the reply. I'll get to adding you. I may not be able to show it to you immediately, though, because I'll be out for a couple of days.

I didn't think of it while I was there, but try deleting the original sensor and tag and adding new renamed ones, if you haven't already.2011-04-21 01:04:00

Did you duplicate the tags and then tweak the label? It might be a glitch with the tag label.

I'm actually seeing something similar right now when I duplicate tags with custom labels; the dupes sometimes show the wrong label when I bring up the properties, though when I go to give the label a custom name, the text editor shows the correct label. The way I got around it was to just create a new tag and re-input the label manually.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear in my original post. I'm not asking about the tag names (though there is a glitch where you need to use a new tag for it to work properly), I'm referring to the actual tag sensors that would be hooked into the health system itself.

So it wouldn't be a miscommunication between the tag and tag sensor, but rather the tag sensor and the system... does that make it clearer? But it sounds like from other posts that that is not the case.

We'll figure it out.

id be willing to bet you accidentally miswired it...i am currently working on a project based heavily on logic and already ive messed up the wiring without notice then i have to cumbersomely go through my logic piece by piece...annoying but sometimes completely necessary2011-04-21 19:45:00

I'm think I tried that one already.

Nope, I don't remember doing it like that.

Sorry too, I maybe should have spent a bit more time understanding what you originally meant. Anyway, no, I don't have any other ones hooked up to the system either.

SR20DETDOG came over and tried renaming it himself; it still didn't work. I'd be willing to bet he didn't miswire anything either because he probably wouldn't have touched anything else, you know, with him not exactly being familiar with what I had set up there.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I'll just try getting this system to work using a different method instead. It's really been bugging me (no pun intended).

I assumed you probably had, but, thought I'd check anyway.

Yep, that's what I thought at first too. It really is a case of now it works, now it doesn't. Maybe there's something we don't understand about how tags work, but atm, it seems like it's a bug in the game.
