Emitter+timer+trigger = :S

Archive: 11 posts

Hi, I'm trying to get an emitter to spawn stuff for a set period of time once i press X using a controllinator.

The problem is I can't get it to work properly, I've tried a lot of different settings on the timer, I thought it was obvious that I should make the timer count bakwards once I press X, the emitter starts to spawn stuff but it doesn't stop after the timer runs out.

I want it to count down once, if I press X again it shouldn't start the countdown again.

Couldn't you forget about the timer and set the time you spawn the things your talking about?
Litterally, just tweak the emitter and set the frequency, its practically a timer but without the logic.....

Hope this helps in some way :S

Well, I want the emitter to spawn things in a rapid pace and then stop completely after let's say 5seconds.

If I understood your reply correctly it will just change the frequency at which a new object will spawn.

If I could get the timer to not restart If I press x again once it's finnished that would solve my problem.

Edit: I want the emitter to start at the press of the X-button and stop after a said time, once off, the X-button should do nothing related to that emitter.

Thanks for the reply btw.

You can also change how tweak the emitter to how many things spawn at once then wait, if that's what your talking about....2011-04-19 20:44:00

Yeah, that's not what I'm looking for though, I can get the emitter to stop with a timer, the problem is that if I press X-again it will reactivate the emitter.

I guess I could just use the timer on a destroyer that erase the emitters after a said time, but there should be an easy alternative that I can use.

I think I understand. You want to press X one time, have the emitter go off, and then never activate again... right?

X would be hooked to an AND switch, which is connected to the timer's reset switch and the timer set to reverse output, current time set to max. The reversed output from the timer is connected to the emitter.

The timer would also be connected to a toggle, with the toggle's output going to the AND switch. This way, once the timer is activated once, it will send the signal to the toggle and turn it off, which would go back to the AND switch. This would disable the ability to activate the timer the second you hit X.

Is that what you want to do?

X------- AND -------- TIMER -------- EMITTER
| |
---- TOGGLE ----

(Edit - that's not appearing the way i wanted it to... lol i hope you understand)

Will try that out, thanks for the help!

Here's a picture if you're still stuck. It works perfectly. If you wanted to turn the toggle back on, you would need another button or switch attached to an OR gate connected to the toggle input. The other input on the OR gate would be the timer.

Good luck!

you could do as shane said or just do a one shot counter to a count down timer 4 how ever long you want to emit 4 then that goes to the emitter. if you want to be able to use again then wire something to reset counter...if you wanted even less logic wire the one shot counter directly to the emitter set your frequency then figure out how long you want it to emit for and set it. then set max emitted. ie if my frequency is one second and i want it to emit 4 5 secs then i would set max emitted t o 5 or 6...6 if i am allowing for timing errors.dont confuse max emitted w max emitted at once. hope this helps also2011-04-21 20:02:00

That is a really simple way to do it... lol I was overthinking it.
