How would you survive a desaster?

So, as some news on the net has been saying, it seems that Rome will be hit by the most violent earthquake ever in a 20-ish days. http://scienceray.com/earth-sciences/hysteria-on-the-internet-in-italy-rome-will-be-devastated-by-an-earthquake-on-may-11/ http://www.predictions-for-2012.com/hercolubus_planet_x_breaking_news-_earthquake_prediction_in_italy_rome_will_be_devas tated_by_an_earthquake_on_may_11_2011 You can find easily other stuff on the net... The point is that people is going mental, people booking trips for that days, people speaking about it anywhere, bar, buses, markets, newspapers. Just after the dramatic events of Japan, this thing is just silly. As a Roman, I feel...well, amused by the overall hysteria, bravely worried, and recklessly don't giving a crap...all mixed. Beside ducking and cover, what would you guys do if you were predicted an upcoming catastrophe where you live? | 2011-04-19 16:09:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Open space (for when the earthquake hits) - and then High ground (in case of any Tsunamis). So find an open space close to a high-rise car park - and hope that the car park is earthquake proof. Also, they've never been very accurate when it comes to predicting earth-quakes - it's not like predicting the weather. | 2011-04-19 18:12:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
As we say in Ireland, "run for da hills, boyo!" If you ask me though, it sounds like a "load of bull****", as we also say in Ireland. | 2011-04-19 18:22:00 Author: talbot-trembler Posts: 1114 |
As we say in Ireland, "POTATO!" If you ask me though, it sounds like "POTATO - POTATO - POTATO", as we also say in Ireland. Fixed it | 2011-04-19 18:31:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
And we just had hundreds of scientists telling us that it's impossible to predict the exact date when a earthquake will strike. PS: Stand in the middle of the Colosseum. That thing stood there for 2000 years, surely it will get through whatever earthquake strikes Rome. Plus the walls would most likely collapse outward. PPS: So find an open space close to a high-rise car park - and hope that the car park is earthquake proof The last bit is crucial in this plan. | 2011-04-19 18:42:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
I would say we could start with spelling DISASTER the proper way... 2nd advice: Learn norwegian and and be a troll with all us here But seriously, when they say it will be the biggest thing ever, I would get out of the city and preferably somewhere in the mountains, if they really are serious. | 2011-04-19 19:28:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
I'd stay inside playing LBP2. Best think of a backup plan anyway, just in case it IS true. When the earthquake strikes you'll need to be ready for it. I'd recommend a hard hat and a high visibility jacket, and most importantly make sure you've backed up your LBP save on a memory stick or something. | 2011-04-19 20:08:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
LOL, you know, it's clearly bullpoo or potato , still, it drives quite a bit of anxiety, you know, I don't want to imagine the scene of some old dead man that meets me in the afterlife, look in my eyes and tell me: "I told ya, boy"...though I'm more worried about the sanctification of the late pope with like 3 millions of people in the streets | 2011-04-19 21:15:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
There's no way they could predict an earthquake with that kind of accuracy. Unless they were pointing one of these (http://www.rense.com/political/weapons/earthqk.htm) at you?! | 2011-04-19 21:32:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |

This is for an... earthquake, right? Definitely need protective, brightly-colored gear (bright/highlighter vest, headgear, eye protection) in the local vicinity in-case it really does go down. If possible, head to an open, clear area, hopefully with no high buildings or telephone poles or trees around. But if worse comes to worse, stand under a solid door frame. It's usually one of the last standing parts of a building. So what magnitude are they predicting? I know recently we got hit by a 7.5 down here with little to no damage, but your building codes are probably different. | 2011-04-20 02:41:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |

It's impossible to predict an earthquake. Even Uniformitarianism has proven to be correct less than 1/4 of the time. Still, you should prepare for the worst; Better safe than sorry. | 2011-04-20 03:02:00 Author: Frinklebumper Posts: 941 |
Predicting earthquakes 20 days away? Mate, if you think we could actually do that, do you think Japan would be in the situation it is now? Haiti? It seems farfetched. But oh well. Your info seems to be drawn from astrology, and the second source is about 2012. Not the most trustworthy stuff. I encourage my fellow LBPCers to avoid these. | 2011-04-20 03:03:00 Author: Astrosimi Posts: 2046 |
Ya like others said, You really can't predict earthquakes... there are sooooooo many factors that cause an earthquake (when it happens, how powerful it is, etc.) | 2011-04-20 03:26:00 Author: Clivefan11 Posts: 106 |
Oh man, it's just to have some laugh. Do you think counterquaking after a good bean based meal will work? | 2011-04-20 06:31:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
hide in your basement AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE LBP WITH YOU. oh and bring food too, food is good. but more importantly lbp | 2011-04-20 06:56:00 Author: darcyh Posts: 191 |

Earthquake in Brazil? http://i56.tinypic.com/9k5ueg.png If it happened in my city, it would go from hills to plains in seconds.... :O | 2011-04-21 11:35:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
Hey guys, I need smart ideas So I prepared some Legos as LBP is unpracticable since the electricity should fail, beans...what else | 2011-04-21 11:56:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Hey guys, I need smart ideas So I prepared some Legos as LBP is unpracticable since the electricity should fail, beans...what else Potatoes, crackers and coke... Food that won't rot. | 2011-04-21 12:43:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
Ok, how can I cook potatoes without fire? Fine for crackers if the place is not moisty, otherwise they will become all mushy and pulpy Coke could be handy if I need something to corrode | 2011-04-21 13:02:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
A whistle (to alert rescuers in case you become trapped under rubble) A Torch (to overcome the darkness - preferable a kinetic torch so you don't have to worry about batteries) A large bag of peanuts (can sustain a human for quite a while if rationed carefully) Vodka (for disinfecting wounds - or for entertainment/consolation) | 2011-04-21 13:56:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
i would just RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY ! and take my psp with me *earthquake hits* me: **** i forgot meh charger | 2011-04-21 19:13:00 Author: nysudyrgh Posts: 5482 |
Ok, how can I cook potatoes without fire? Fine for crackers if the place is not moisty, otherwise they will become all mushy and pulpy Coke could be handy if I need something to corrode You can try exotic raw potatoes (just don't try the green ones!) and pretend that it's milk on your crackers! Vodka (for disinfecting wounds - or for entertainment/consolation) "Mac, GDN got bit by a giant australian spider! We need to desinfect him!" "NO! STAY AWAY FROM MAH VODKA!!!" | 2011-04-22 02:56:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
In the event of a tsunami, I would get up on a high point with my big stick, look the tsunami in the eye, and go: http://images1.memegenerator.net/ImageMacro/6871870/YOU-SHALL-NOT-PASS.jpg?imageSize=Medium&generatorName=anteater | 2011-04-22 19:10:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |
Did you actually read these articles? "His theories were based on the movement stars under which earthquakes have cosmic origin." I believe his theories to be much akin to the excrement of the male bovine. As for your questions, the only way to truly survive (other than sheer luck and coincidence) is to be prepared. First aid kits, rations of food and clean drinking/cooking water, batteries, communication devices, flashlights, and some sort of environmental shelter. | 2011-04-22 20:26:00 Author: schm0 Posts: 1239 |
Hmm.. I'm not sure about the accuracy of these articles, but I'd definitely follow the others' advice and try to get to an open area, or maybe even camp out in your cellar for the day wth your family or friends. Could be fun! | 2011-04-22 20:33:00 Author: Plasmavore Posts: 1913 |
As expected the pre-dEsaster is arriving...the beatification of the past pope...the first of May Miriads of popeboys and pilgrims will invade Rome http://www.raucci.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/papa-boys.jpg As I live 666 steps from the Vatican and Saint Peter...yes no joking, I really do...my life those days will be blasted. My zone will be completely closed to traffic and cars will have to be located elsewhere. The zone will be closed and evacuated from 5:00 AM of May 1st. The problem is that I have to reach my work, even that day even if until 1:00 PM (Worker's day Pfff..WTF!) at 5:30 max...without taking the car... So basically I have to come to work on April 30th with the car, leave the car at work, get back home on foot (over 3 miles), get back to work the 1st on foot waking up at 4:00 AM and get back on foot, then the 2nd get back to work on foot. WTF!!! And it's not about having to walk, I like it a lot, but it's that I have to be forced to change my habits for this mass hysteria. | 2011-04-27 08:47:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
There's no way they could predict an earthquake with that kind of accuracy. Unless they were pointing one of these (http://www.rense.com/political/weapons/earthqk.htm) at you?! Crrrrrap. They found out about my Earthquake Gun. Lets hope they don't find my Tornado Launcher and my Severe Electrical Storm Rockets. Or my Banana Cannon. That one is particularly critical. | 2011-04-27 10:08:00 Author: the Ion Pulsar Posts: 172 |
Truthfully, I'd get my pillowcases ready for my raid of the Vatican vault. Then I'd probably stock up canned beans and twinkies and liquor and hide under something huge. | 2011-04-27 23:44:00 Author: Thegide Posts: 1465 |
Truthfully, I'd get my pillowcases ready for my raid of the Vatican vault. Then I'd probably stock up canned beans and twinkies and liquor and hide under something huge. Why do you think the vatican vault is full of tinned beans, twinkies and liquor?! | 2011-04-28 10:34:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
Oh people, I'm so raaaaging at this event. There's supposed to be 2 millions of pilgrims PLUS the usual million for the usual Annual Worker's Day Gig. People get off of my lawn... I'm still searching for a megaphone to shout insults from my house, and I'm preparing hm...water bombs ?_____? I'm usually respectful for other people beliefs but not with extremism...people who comes to see an event like this is the same as Talibans for me. | 2011-04-28 11:10:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
People started to chant and string in the street at 3:30 in the morning When I got out at 4:50 AM there was already a river of people in the streets I'm at work and my feet already ache a lot I'm a stinging bee | 2011-05-01 05:35:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
So, back to the main point of the thread... A lot of people left Rome today and took a 2 days vacation. Someone come to my shop to say: "Hi! This could be the last time we meet!" Well, I'll be here waiting for whatever the f! will happen LOL | 2011-05-10 10:41:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
:O I heard about this a while ago some guy said it on a social network site and it was instantly removed to avoid panic. I hope it just a rumour. But if it was me i would backup lbp on a memory stick and run for the hills with a surf board | 2011-05-10 13:19:00 Author: Special_D_ Posts: 57 |

The most annoying thing if I should die would be that someone would say: "I told ya!" | 2011-05-10 16:40:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
The most annoying thing if I should die would be that someone would say: "I told ya!" It is worth it, when they get back, it will be you who get to say it! | 2011-05-10 16:49:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
Well, your earthquake came true... Out in the middle of the South Pacific (http://www.sacbee.com/2011/05/10/3614866/magnitude-71-earthquake-hits-south.html). | 2011-05-11 02:04:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |
Well, it was predicted for 11 AM...still 8:26 AM at the moment. Too bad I don't have powerful tech...I would have live blogged it UPDATE 1: One guy told me: "I'm sorry I paid you the otherday, guess you won't need the money anymore..." I have to receive some stuff from another city, I asked the guy the tracking code and he replied: "Why bothering much? Shouldn't Rome be destroyed today?" Another one: "My office is at the 6th floor, 5 floors below, 5 above, if it happens I'm screwed. I'm sorry that I can't listen to the CDs I ordered from Amazon..." 09:45 AM - If people keeps going with this kind of jokes it will be a long day... UPDATE 2: People got drunk and didn't went to work. One girl: "I like Earthquakes! They Made me understand the power of nature!" ( weirdy one) Lots of people slepts in tents in open areas. 10:35 AM - Madness keeps going | 2011-05-11 07:25:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
