Game Camera local space bug...trying to get fix confirmation from MM
Archive: 3 posts
I'm referring to the issue where setting a game camera to local space does not cause it to preserve the view's orientation relative to the camera when the camera's host object rotates. (which is the whole point of the setting) This works fine for movie cameras, just not game cameras. I posted this request on MM's official GetSatisfaction support forum for LBP2 (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/is_the_local_space_camera_bug_still_scheduled_to_b e_fixed), and I'm hoping others who are also still plagued by this bug might go on this link and click the "I have this problem too" button, to elevate the issue: http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/is_the_local_space_camera_bug_still_scheduled_to_b e_fixed When the game first released, MM said on another post (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/game_camera_local_space_is_broken) there that this was a bug that popped up between the beta and the gold release, and that they would fix it, but since it's been 3 months and 3 patches later, I'm concerned that they may have decided not to alter game play by "changing" (fixing) the current behavior. (Otherwise, it seems like if it was working before, it would have been easy enough to undo the bug by now, but I'm only guessing of course.) Anyway, if you want to "me too" this there, we might get some momentum going on this. I'll update this thread with any response from MM on GetSatisfaction. | 2011-04-19 01:11:00 Author: LittleBigDave Posts: 324 |
I'll jump on this. I have never understood the "local" setting for game cameras as it doesn't appear to do anything in LBP2, but I figured it was one of many little nuances I simply didn't understand because I wasn't using it "as intended." Either way, you've got my support. I'm all for tinkering with camera angles and potentially improving them, or clarifying their functions through discussion if not through a fix or update. | 2011-04-19 05:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
I have never understood the "local" setting for game cameras as it doesn't appear to do anything in LBP2 It doesn't do anything until you rotate the object that the camera is on, then it just doesn't do anything that makes much sense. What it should do is make it seem like that object hasn't rotated at all, but that the world has rotated around it. So, for example, you could make a 3rd person flight combat game, and when you bank your plane, the horizon banks but your plane's attitude remains fixed, which would create more immersion. (You can witness this correct behavior by using a movie camera with the same setting, but using a movie camera in games has other drawbacks.) Right now it instead rotates the view in the wrong direction, which is quickly very disorienting and makes most control schemes pretty impossible to use. So it is probably not a setting that has seen much use in its broken state, but I've been working on a big game that hinges on Mm fixing this bug (not a flight combat sim), so I'm really hoping they haven't changed mind. Anyway, thanks for your support! | 2011-04-19 09:27:00 Author: LittleBigDave Posts: 324 |
