Subtitles eluding me?

Archive: 11 posts

hey so i really don't like magic mouths and the big bubbles they make. Because of that i want to learn how to do subtitles.

ive looked in the tools etc part of the poppit and there isnt anything there for it. also i tried checking the "subtitles" thing on the magic mouths and it STILL has the bubbles. So, then i turned it on with logic and it STILL had the bubbles.... what am i missing?

thanks ahead of time

What you are missing, I think, is movie cameras. If you select the movie (what used to be cut-scene) camera option in the magic mouth, then the subtitles should appear. Alternatively, if you put the magic mouth on a sequencer and overlap a movie camera in the same time span, the subtitles should show (providing the subtitles option has been checked in the magic mouth, of course).

Hope this helps!

Erm... I don't think it's got anything to do with movie cameras - sorry vortex!

What you need is a sequencer and a magic mouth. Put the magic mouth on the sequencer, tweak it and select subtitles!

It has to be on a sequencer and you have to enable subtitles in the settings(not only in the actual magic mouth but in the global settings for LBP).2011-04-17 23:19:00

Ah... no need to be sorry. I knew I'd gotten them working, but I thought it was camera based. I'm sure I must be using a sequencer then. Just glad we got the right answer to the OP.

@ septamus112: Sorry if I sent you on a wild goose chase.

Just FYI. You can use movie cams and still play. Just set the Disable Controllers = OFF. And if you want the full-screen, select Track Player = ON. This is also very effective for transitioning back to regular game camera mode after a cut scene (because the the transitions and times still apply).

That's some great advice! I had sussed the movie cam approach to using subtitles, but you've just opened up a whole range of cool tweaks for using movie cameras as cameras that I never even thought about! Thanks!2011-04-18 13:30:00

I hope they patch this at some point, it's such a weirdly convoluted way to enable them. I 'spose it's something to do with the BC, in the beta it was just an option on the mouths.2011-04-18 13:41:00

Yeah, in the BETA they were just an option on any magic mouth - but I think in one of the updates they accidently turned this option off, and I suppose with all the other bugs in the BETA, it wasn't really a priority. I too would like it fixed though - then we'd be able to give the player the option to skip the speech if they've read it before.2011-04-18 13:43:00
