Applecarver Island: The Shoreline (with pictures)

This is the introduction level to the storyline that I'm working on.

Your raft washes up on the shore of the strange Applecarver Island. Next you meet Toady, who suggests that you travel to the laboratory of Dr Applecarver to ask for help to get off the island. But of course, getting there will be difficult since boulders from a recent rock slide is blocking your way.

When reach the boulders, you meet the leader of the local natives, Papa Shaman, who says that he will clear the boulders for you if you do him a favor first (typical, no?).

He request you to catch all the fish in a nearby lagoon.

After doing so, the boulders will be cleared, and you will be able to continue your journey.

There are also a couple of side challenges to do as well. With some pretty neat prizes (at least I think they're neat).

Still need to add a few things to make it look more pleasing to the eye, but I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out. So go check it out, and let me know what you think. Comments and suggestions always welcome.

The next episode will be "The Jungle," which will be a lot lager and complicated than "The Shoreline."

P.S. Also, be sure to check out the "Fiery Descent" level I have published. It's the beginnings of another episode in the "Applecarver Island' storyline.

It's been published for a while actually, I played it a few days ago. However, I stopped after I was requested to catch the fish. Here's why:

Not only are the fish incredibly hard to get the claw to latch onto, but the claw is attach by a winch rather than a stiff piston, meaning it swings around a lot. This makes it incredibly dificult to get even one, let alone four. I stopped when a fish finally broke, since it was now impossible to finish.

I recommend adding a bit to the fish for the claw to grab hold of, and attaching the claw via a piston. Unless you've republished since I played it with those changes, of course.

Oh, and don't think I hate your level - it was a lot of fun up to that point.

Yeah I've got a lot of things to redesign in this level.

I'm going to have to work on stabilizing the claw. The rocking isn't so bad for the regular claw game, but since this modified version is so long, it can rock a lot more.

Oh, and if a fish dies, you can still catch the rest, and it should work. Perhaps there's another material besides cardboard that doesn't break as easily. I'll have to experiment with different materials.

Thanks for the feedback. Changing the fish to sponge works perfectly. I also modified the crane so it uses two winches instead of one. Now the crane doesn't spin violently when raised. It's almost too easy now But I suppose the last thing a first episode should be is difficult.

Edit: Papa Shaman got a redesign.
