Collapsing Bridge...

I've been contemplating, and maybe it's been done, but it would be cool to make a bridge level.

Start off up on the edge of a clif with bridge.

But as you step o it starts falling apart behind you, and you need to SACK FOR IT!!!!

Would be good idea to use lifepoint follow, like on the third level in "The Wedding"

Toss in some obsticles, and swinging peices, just make it an all out run the whole level.

Kinda just thinking out loud in text I guess...

The best way to implement a collapsing bridge type of event would be a plank bridge where the planks start to fall down from the bridge itself.
Some of my favorite levels in any platformer are the ones where you must keep moving at all times or die. These levels always tend to be frantic and require some precise platforming at times where you mus be moving at top speed. . .
I just realized that I started rambling again, anyway good luck with a bridge level, and I fully expect there to be crocodiles beneath the bridge waiting to devour any sackpeople who might linger a moment too long.

Great idea, i'd certainly play it

Do you know how it'd be done? Maybe have dissolve material on each plank holding them up, all with a magnetic key thinggy, & a horizontal piston with the key switch on it high above, that moves along at a certain speed. Using the cow glitch thing to change appearance of the dissolvable material. A lot of string will be needed too i.e between planks.

How's that? lol I dunno if it'd work as I havn't got too much experience with that sort of thing.

I'm building one now... had some ideas after reading your thread. I'll let you know what I can come up with. Not trying to snatch your idea, I'm just really excited about trying to build a level around this.2008-12-10 19:16:00

I built one, and it turned out good. Didn't publish it though, but if you guys want me to I can.

Here's how I did it.

First built all the planks ina row, made them 2 thick.

Made the collapsing ones thin and converted to dissolving, then put brown sticker.

Add a really deep "Ice break" sound and a proximity sensor.

Set the switch to dissolve material and the soud, made switch / sound invisible.

Now I strun all the stuff together, and cloned the wod planks and glued them to the front of the dissolving material.

For now it works like that. When you step on a "weak" piece, it makes a lud C-C-CRACCCKKK sound and the peice falls down. But because the string for the other two by it were attached to the dissolving material, it dissolves and the whole bridge starts collapsing.

Not bad, but I want it to stay for my level, thus, I then took the two pieces on the left/ right side of a weak piece, and strung e m together right through the middle weak piece.

You can't even tell the difference, but at the start I mae the weak pieces a different color than as you get farther they are all the same.

I'll publish it tonight, I only spent a single night on it, the level is pretty easy, but I put a lot of work into sounds and lighting, and it looks like you're crossing a series of long rickety old bridges in the rain.
