Deep within the sand tides of Egyptia rests a royal pyramid, hosting the tomb of the late pharoah Razhotep. Many thieves have tried to take advantage of this, attempting to steal the Royal Treasure for themselves. However, doom has befallen any one that ever dared grace the steps of the tomb. It is said Razhotep himself still roams the walls of his royal grave, along with a nasty curse said to haunt any mortal unlucky enough to escape the dreadful place...

Features:

Platforming
Puzzles
Enemies
Boss Battle
Branching Path
Extra 4-Player Puzzle
Hidden Items

Hey guys! It's finally out. Level took me quite a bit to make... About four weeks, I'd say. A lot of hard, hard work went into this, so I can only hope you guys enjoy it, at least a little bit. Unlike Tekno Fortress (for anyone who played it), the level features a more structured storyline, more balanced platforming and a few more puzzles, too!

I decided to add a branching path again, but I gave it a little twist this time around. Now, Path A is accessible to any amount of players in the level, while Path B is only accessible to 2 players or more. Path B is a little bit longer since it may take a bit of coordination between to two(or more) players, but I find the overall experience on that one to be more satisfying. Of course, each path has their own set of goodies. You'll also get to fight plenty of enemies while avoiding deadly traps and obstacles, only to find yourself in a boss battle at the end (which, I'm quite happy with, might I add)! I tried to not make it so long, but...yeah. It's as long as Tekno Fortress, I'd say. More or less. I did focus more on the presentation this time around. I'm pretty happy with it overall, even if I wasn't able to execute some ideas. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it at least a little bit. Let me know what you think! ^^; I might go into a long Creator break depending on how it goes.

Oh, and, one more thing... Thank you to all of the people that helped me make the level, even if it was just testing it or giving advice. You know who you are! I seriously can't thank you enough. I'm very grateful to have gotten your feedback, even though all of it may have not been applied. I would also like to thank Linque for showing us how to do the "floating platforms" illusion. Credit also goes to Gilgamesh for his "password" mechanism I imitated with the Beta version of the level. OCK, thanks to you too, pal! You taught me that amazing "texture sticker" technique. I actually got the sponge material to look like sand thanks to you! Last, and surely not least, thanks to my good friend Daniel (http://dio-03.deviantart.com/) who drew me Raz!

Yes, I like Egyptian stuff. ;D
Let me know if you find any glitches or anything. I don't think there are much, if any at all.
The video's playing fast because it was edited length-wise to fit on YouTube.
Sorry for the sticker quality. It's the best I can do for now, until we get image importing... I tried. >_<;;

Bookmarked for play. Looks like fun.

Edit:

Wow. Great level. I really liked your mummies and all the hidden and multipath areas. 5 star and hearted. Keep them coming.

Finished already?

I'm going to go play it now. Will edit in my review of it momentarily.

Edit: Woo gots me teh #1 high score, you know, out of two people who finished it. Anyways...

Pros

The level design and feel is amazing. This level is as good to look at as it is to play.

There are both a x2 and a x4 area. I was alone, so I didn't get to do these, but it's always good for a level to have these.

There is a boss near the end.

Traps littered throughout will keep you on your toes, but(alone) will not make it hard or impossible to ace.

All of the obstacles feel quite original.

Cons

The boss is almost boring, and it is not a challenge at all. As far as I could tell, the only way to die was to fal in the bits of fire at the bottom, as the boss itself launches no attacks.

I personally preferred the old part at the Great Scarab more than the new one. The new one is almost a joke, really. Perhaps if you removed the danger from the old one, but you still had to cross on the barrel or w/e, it'd keep everyone happy.

The part after the Great Scarab, where you have to cross the spinning square blocks, the blocks move incredibly slow, I understand why you did that, but it's still kinda annoying having to wait for the next one.

That's all I can think of to nitpick at for now.

Wow that level was amazing, I only have one question, do you plan what your going to do next, because whenever I'm creating my level, I always screw up and use too many layers and such, do you plan before you create?

Btw, level was great, all the detail was amazing, I didn't get to finish but watching the video I notice I didn't miss much, I had to go out, I'll probably play it again.

Now if only they added the song you used for the soundtrack, I don't know why but I really liked it

One thing I suggest though, and BassDeluxe seems to have suggested it as well, you made the boss a bit too easy, players should be awarded with something amazing, but you might of ran out of room which I can understand, I would still add maybe some more hazards if you could like falling rocks or something.

Thanks, BassDeluxe! I agree on the boss... I don't know. I wanted to keep it simple, at least this time around, mainly because the level turned out rather long. I don't want people to just die at the boss, knowing it's near the end... Having to start over and stuff. x_x I was tempted on adding more obstacles, but meh. Not to mention I have NO SPACE in the thermometer. Well, maybe I can place one block of stone there...but not much else than that. >_< Something to consider again in the future. Quality over Quantity... Gotta make it shorter and improve the overall experience.

I also agree with the new Scarab room, but it was either that, make the Mummy Eyes move/swing (which would've made it way too hard then since the platform you stand on is so small, the old one (which turned out to be too hard for many), or just delete it and start anew...which I didn't feel like doing. xD

Oh, and a note to aer0blue: If the level does count players before the boss like I thought, you'll probably want another checkpoint at the spot where they would fall to prevent them from commiting sackicide and screwing the rest of the level up.

Could you explain a little? I didn't quite understand.

Again, thanks! Do try the 2p area whenever you can, so you can tell me what you think about that, too. :]

docpac, thanks for the heart and rating!

Whaaaaale, thank you! Try the level with a friend if you can, for the 2p part! Umm, I would have added rocks, but the problem about adding one-layer objects in that area is that they might get crushed by the moving platforms or cause other complications. It would have to have been a thin layer on the foreground with gas behind it (like the Mummy Eyes)... But not much space for that. x_x Although, I could add a little something simple, like a swinging Mummy Eye... Anyway, to be honest with you, I don't really plan that much, I just improvise in the moment. I mean, I do get general ideas of what I want to do, like "oh, this would make a cool obstacle", but I pretty much make them as I go... Which leads me to the problem mentioned before... Making it too long and running out of thermo space. -_-...

Thanks, OCK. Let me know what you think, especially what you think could have been done better. :]

Could you explain a little? I didn't quite understand.

Thought I might have to, didn't explain it very well up there.

What I meant was this: right before the boss, there's a short drop with a checkpoint at the top. Immediately after is another checkpoint, and then you begin the boss. Now, I'm assuming the reason for the first checkpoint is because you are counting how many players are in the party right there, am I correct? If not, none of this matters, but if so, I recommend adding one more checkpoint immediately at the bottom of the fall. That way, they would fall, be counted, and if they decide to kill themselves before the boss' checkpoint, they will not be counted as yet another player. Does that explain it? If you like I can draw up a diagram.

Ah, makes sense now! I get what you mean, but nope, the players aren't counted. When the players drop and activate the actual boss checkpoint, a wall closes in behind them and black gas is emitted (...by an emitter) around the area before that, so if they were left behind for X or Y reason, they get auto-killed so they respawn on the boss checkpoint. Now, did I make sense? Anyway, Mm did this on The Collector, and I copied it off (where the elevator begins to go down).

I just finished it and have the number 1 score Here are my thoughts:

- As far as level design goes this is a masterwork. The structure, puzzle placement, variety is all top notch and there is definitely inspiration to be found here for ALL creators.

- The puzzles are very clever and original. Nothing is rehashed and it is really refreshing to see such variety. I hope people appreciate the thought that has to go into making all of this stuff, it is a lot of hard work.

- I love the visuals/theme you went with on this one and I have not really seen it done before (or at least not to this standard). The custom stickers you used to decorate worked great and I wish more people would add them to their levels.

- There are so many small details here that are very cool. When on the moving platform the little piece of glass that moves the checkpoint is ingenious. When activating the TNT the way the stone collapses to form a bridge is great (btw I remember during playtesting the TNT box was not colored so when I got to this section I was pleasantly surprised to see that you had done so, this is VERY rarely seen). There is just so much more that I don't want to spoil but the fact is that there is a lot to appreciate here.

- Doble-life checkpoints scattered liberally, wish more people did this.

Suggestions:

- I agree with what has been said about the boss but at the same time I understand thermometer complications. Still, you could do more to make it a little more challenging.

-
I personally preferred the old part at the Great Scarab more than the new one. The new one is almost a joke, really. Perhaps if you removed the danger from the old one, but you still had to cross on the barrel or w/e, it'd keep everyone happy.

I have mixed feelings here. On one hand the barrels were very challenging I think some people would be put off by that (not me though, love a challenge lol). The new carts are more accessible but the challenge has been drastically reduced. Well, something to think about.

- Just before the 2x section you have the arrows with the A and B. I would not mid if you made this lettering custom to better fit your overall look (I say this a lot, I guess I really pay attention to even the smallest details).

It was a pleasure playtesting this and I am very satisifed with the end result. I am happy you used my suggestion to change the look of your sand (I have been meaning to create a thread in the HELP section called "Texture and Material manipulation 101" but have not found the time yet lol). I encourage everyone to check this level out and let aer0 know what you think. 5 stars and hearted, thank you for another great level.

I played this yesterday, and i have to say it is amazing. When i got to the 2 player section, i just used two controllers so i could check out the area lol. Was a bit tricky using 2 at once but i did it! And i thoroughly enjoyed the whole level
I do agree with the boss... even if he just chucked a bit of fire at you or something to make it more lively. He just seems a bit boring sat there watching you kill him lol.
Bar that though, as i said it's a great level. 5 Stars and Hearted - which i don't do often!

Thanks a lot, man. Again, I appreciate it. Still waiting to test your level again when you get a chance. Perhaps you should make a Beta version of it like I did... You know, password protect to make sure. d: And yes... Make that thread. I'll take your advice about incorporating custom text next time... It would look better.

Haha, well, that's an alternate way to do the 2P area, then. d: Thanks!

The problem about adding something hazardous at the boss is that if the player is dodging something, it's very likely they'll end up falling from the platforms, thus making it frustrating.

If anyone proposes any good ideas I'll try to incorporate them somehow.

Thanks! Like I said, adding obstacles to the boss battle would probably make it frustrating, having to climb up the moving platforms if you fell down dodging or died. Anyway, yeah, I tried to use plenty of custom stuff so it would be original...so people can remember "that one level with the pharoah dude".

Understood. I wanted to give the feeling of "old ruined pyramid" somehow, so that's the only thing that came up. I tried to not use it so much so it wouldn't get annoying. But thanks!

Ive posted this before, but once again great job. I have one major problem (here comes some tough criticism) with this level though, and it annoys me everytime i play your wonderful level.

there is a great lack of detail.
you only use a few different materials overall, and it works, but i can think of plenty of small details that you could add to make it even better. the level is a little bland overall.

if you made a huge detail sweep over the level and this WOULD be MM quality, but its not quite there yet.

If you are at 100% thermometer and have no room to add more detail, thats a shame. because this is a wonderful level and it deserves all the room it needs to make it as perfect as it can be.

Precisely why I need to follow the "quality over quantity" principle. Need to make the next one shorter, but have it look better and feel better. I totally agree with you--I was never too happy with the way it looked. Placing other materials would rank up the thermo though, and I've too little space now. Next time for sure. Not like I intended it to be Mm quality anyway, but it would still be something nice to achieve.

Aero as a suggestion only, if for example you made the 2x area shorter this would save some space on the thermo, as it was a level in itself

Donkey and I had a great time playing this yesterday with quite a few laughs along the way, specially when he managed to get the bottom section of the Pharaoh jammed so hard between the base and roof we couldn't get it out or out of the area so we had to restart. Looking forward to your next level to see what it will be about.

I've played this lev a couple times... my friend deboerdave showed it to me before I actually joined here and I was surprised to see it was a showcase community level. It's awesome.

I guess I agree about the kind of drab tone and blockiness, but the gameplay and architecture, from the mechanics to the multiplayer non-linear pathways - it's immense and has no competition in that department. It feels dusty and epic...

The boss is a little meh, but he's a cool character. aer0blue = king of 2/3/4x

Wow. That's awesome then...I think. o_O Wonder why, though...? lol. xD

Cheers QuozL

I fixed that issue now. It seems a lot of people were getting that piece stuck on there... :]

Anyway, yeah, I could go ahead and make the whole 2x area shorter...but... I don't know. I like it. >_> It would definitely save some space, of course. Like I said, though, "quality over quantity" next time.

Yeah, it was pretty hard to make it look good, considering it was a pyramid. When you think about it, pyramids are just a dull, light brown. >_< I tried to make it look decent by adding decorations here and there, but I didn't want to deviate from what a pyramid actually is. I agree with you, of course.

Yup, I'll see if I work up a cool boss next time. I have to admit, I was just running out of ideas and my brain was running on empty--not to mention I wasn't as motivated anymore (by the end). And yes, Raz is awesome. >_>

One final thing: I fixed the LBPCentral logo at the end. Now, it's smaller so it doesn't block away the score screen.

Thank you all for playing. Your feedback is very, very welcome. :]

EDIT 1: I have edited the original post so it links also to my friend's DevArt page (http://dio-03.deviantart.com/). He did draw Raz, after all.

EDIT 2: Whoo-hoo! Raz's Tomb hit the 10k Plays mark! :3

I'll play this, I love egyptian lore. Mind playing my own egyptian level? Search: dkjestrup

it's called the Ancient relics of the sack...

Looks great... about to play.

This was a good time. I'll just list the points to keep the post somewhat structured

Pros:
- Nice long level
- Good variation in traps
- Some nice trap/story sections
- I laughed at the "rumble rumble" text bubbles
- I liked the look of the mummy enemies and the floating eyes
- Nice use of using large (yellow and white) stickers on the materials to create a egyptian/desert look, I'll keep that in mind with my next level .
- Branching paths are always great
- Inventive to push the checkpoint off the moving platform

Cons:
- Several parts of the level were slow like:
- The rotating blocks, you would have to wait quite a bit for the slow block to turn somewhat straight, truly getting on my nerves after the 2nd time I fell
- The "on rails" bits had quite a bit of standing around, waiting until the vehicle got the next bit of gameplay
- The platforms in the bossfight were so slow that it was quite a bit more waiting than jumping, especially if you have to do it three times (after you hit a brain it's quite likely to fall back down)
- Some unpolished bits of geometry around. Sometimes a block of level should be straight yet here and there you can see that the block is several pixels off. You might want to go (this time, or next level) trough your levels with the corner editor and delete the odd polygon here and there. It will give the level a more polished look
- It's LONG, mostly it annoyed me because of the slow bits stated above, and the other reason that I played it like: "I'm going to sleep early, just one more level" and expected it to be 10 minutes, like most levels. Guess it is more my problem than yours.

I played this a few days ago and thought I should drop in!

I just thought this was amazing. It's fast becoming one of the major must-play levels that everyone seems to be having a crack at, which is great - very well-deserved. You've by far made the high watermark for any Egyptian-themed level. I wouldn't DARE touch a pyramid or tomb or any egypt level after playing this, it's so much better than what I could do with the same material.

Just wanted to give my congrats on the success, and let you know that it's a heart and a 5-star from me.

Thanks for all that feedback!! And I'll definitely be more careful with this on the next level.

Thank you very much! However, might I suggest "The Quest of the Great Pyramid (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5847)" by Takelow? The presentation is superb. I personally think he did a much better job than me on capturing that "Egyptian essence". But still, thanks again. I put a lot of time into it. Next one will be totally different, however. ;]

Takelow is absolutely brilliant at setting the scene. the set-pieces in the LOTR levels, and his pyramid level (which I have yet to play, but can't wait to check out!) are top, top tier. Brings the epic to the table in grand form.

Okay, so...

First of all, I jumped into a gap above the entrance, and got to the level border.

I was blown away by the visual quality, too.

Now...

+ The first jumping part was...awesome.

+ The same with the first challenge.

+ The bit were you had to flee from the advancing spike door was cool...

- Although sometimes you spawned in an awkward place (ie. spiky pit of doom)

+ The killer - gas - eyes were awesome.
I think I know how they were done. (Winch / string attached to slowly turning wheel?)

- Although sometimes the checkpoint spawned you in an awkward place. (ie gassy section of doom)
Although that isnt a flaw, its unavoidable.

+ The pharoh looked awesome!

+ The slowing ascending platfrom, dark - gas section was fun and challenging.
Again, the checkpoint. But thats not flaw. Dont worry about what im saying now.

+ The part with the spinning platforms and spike pits was tricky. And awesome.
And I liked the skeleton in the spike pit.

++ =|
Those mummies are possibly the best enemy ever!

+The swinging flame ball after that.

+ The coins scatterred across the floor.

Aw, dood, that is cheap. The part where you swing across the sponge and the platform squishes you / throws you to the spikes. No offence intended. And not a flaw. Just a statement.

Finally got past it. On last life.
Flame kept dying. >_<
Well, so did I.

Cheap! Well, more cunning than cheap. The dissappearing swing. I knew there was something off... and then the evil laugh. >_<

+ Nice though. Looks good. Feels good.

+ The spike - tunnell part was fun, and hard. Mostly fun.
P.S You can see dark matter, a tiny blob,.

+ Wow. I stood on the platform to open the door.
Then Flame cheated and ran through while I was standing there. Cheater. lol.
(I narrowly missed geting tthrough. I died. But Flame activated the check point on through. Nice work, by the way)

+
O.O
Best. Set Piece. Ever.
(The part where the stone colums explode)
It was hard to climb, too!

+ The Pharoh.

+ The Mummy.

+ The sponge - dragging, -platform - falling bit was GENIUS!

+ The prize where to obtain it yu had to push over the mummy...
genius.

- The 2 player area was'nt very imaginative.
(No offence intended)

+++ Wait!
Theres a second part to the 2 player area!
And its THE BEST 2 PLAYER AREA IVE EVER SEEN!
AWESOME. So dont worry about the minus above.

+++ A THIRD ONE!?
Its just as good, by the way.
BUT THATS BY NO MEANS A BAD THING!

HOW DO YOU COME UP WITH THIS STUFF!?

If thats only the X 2 area... I wonder whats in X 4...
<strokes chin>
Hmm...

+ The part where you get propelled by the checkpoint was cool. Although I died.

Cheap death alert!
The part after the spinning blocks, where a big block of fire and et cetera rises.
The platform section after that. Some of the fire walls...
are made from dark matter. Although thats not a bad thing, as long as its on fire.

+The pharoh - arrange puzzle was smart.

+ The stone to glass stairway.
Sweet.

The maze with the prize in it is genius. (At the awesome mummy)

Hey! Look! Another awesome mummy!

++ The guide - the - car - through - dangerous - gas!

++ The moving platform part for the boss.
By the way, is the flaming suff on the ground dark matter?
Again, it doesnt matter as its on fire.

+ The scarab at the end was awesome.

+ The ending was cool. Like a cliff hangar.

Okay, now, I have to have SOME minus's, so Im just going to completely nit pick.
- The boss was a little short, and he didnt really attack.

- The treasure - mummy was a bit hard to open.

But, again, im just nitpicking. So dont worry.

EDIT: 5 stars and hearted.

P.S
Much better than that ol' StarCruiser thing.

Yeah..... wow! I haven't seen this thread in AGES. And I'm still waiting for a folllowup level from Aer0blue!...

** taps fingers impatiently **

(we ALMOST had one then his profile corrupted...)

Oh well, as long as it's here, might as well review it:

PROS:

One of the best levels ever

CONS:

Profile corruption, thus preventing us from seeing Aer0blues next level.

I still remember this level and I still think it's one of the best ever made. The very definition of "great". It delivers in all areas of what makes a LBP level a good one.

Whoa! What the heck? How did I miss all of this?!

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate it. I want to work on something new once I finish the Community Project (Boss Rush 3 (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=11165)), so...yeah. I'll give more "detailed thanks" later.

I had the pleasure of playing this great level very early in my LBP life and I'm really looking forward to your next project. Your eye for detail and design is brilliant.

I'm sorry it's so long ago I played it I honestly can't remember it well enough to give in depth feedback but I do know I loved the look and feel of it and would say don't worry about the aesthetics as they were spot on for me.

I'm not saying don't listen to others if they disagree as everyone has different tastes and views on things and all are relevant.

It's just that I thought you captured the whole pyramid feel brilliantly and would love to see you keep thinking that way in future and don't compromise your style because some people say they like to see more decoration. I personally like to see accuracy and attention to detail rather than just throwing in decoration for the sake of it.

I've had the same complaints on my levels which is fair comment in my case because my overall design is nowhere near your standard but even so i don't like to change things from what I think is right just to please others.

As an example I made a Dragster level and explained in the description that I tried to make it as true to a real drag race as I could with my limited LBP knowledge. I'm hopeless with logic stuff and Timmyho helped me out big time with that. I even included detailed instructions with pictures at the start to explain what to do for people who don't know drag racing that wel and yet I still got complaints it was too tricky to get right or too technical. Well yeah real drag racing is difficult because it's all about getting the start right with regards to the lights on the xmas tree. That was the whole point of the level.

Anyway the point I'm trying to make is that I didn't alter that at all because it's exactly the way I wanted it to be. I did make some concession however and added a variety of more 'normal' races after that to cater to the players who wanted that sort of thing. Also I had loads of spare thermo when the drag race was the only thing in there so I figured I may aswell use it. It's not very often I have any spare at all.

Sorry to to take up a load of your thread talking about my level , it's just my very longwinded way of saying keep doing what you're doing and don't change it if you think it looks exactly the way it should and the way you want it to look.

EDIT : HAHA I had to laugh when I hit the 'post quick reply' button. It wasn't that quick was it ?

Okay, so...

...

Haha, thanks. I appreciate the detailed, "chronological"-esque feedback you provided. And...StarCruiser? What? d:

Wow, epic bump. The last post was in January!

Epic bump indeed...but it's not like someone will make a new thread about this level.

Yeah..... wow! I haven't seen this thread in AGES. And I'm still waiting for a folllowup level from Aer0blue!...

...

Thanks, bud. Working on the headache that is BR3 has taken a lot of my LBP time. It's turned out to be a bit more complicated than I initially thought, but I'll be continuing my incomplete levels. Not sure which of the two, but I will.

It's the first LBPC level I ever played Really fun.... and very long level. Highly recommended.

I'm glad it somehow brought you to the awesomeness that is LBPC. :]

Same here - this is how I first heard of LBPC.

Whoa, really? Well...again. What I just said. xD

Well, that was an EPIC bump for this thread. Anyway, this level is really great. And one of the first levels I hearted in LBP. That was back in christmas, and it's still an epic level for me today around 7 months later.

Is it, really? If I were to remake it, I'd improve on many things...but that's how experience works, I suppose. I just find it odd, since Creators are getting better and better... It makes RT seem..."primitive". d:

I still remember this level and I still think it's one of the best ever made. The very definition of "great". It delivers in all areas of what makes a LBP level a good one.

Again, it's on a level thread. Not like someone will make a new RT thread. Besides, it wasn't done with any bad intentions.

...

Thanks, it means a lot. I'm trying to decorate things a bit better now still, but I won't let it get in the way of actual gameplay and design. :]

Wow, I remember playing this a LOOOOONG time ago back when I first got the game. I remember thinking "how the heck did he fit such a long level into the space they gave us". I just revisited this a few weeks back and the beginning still impresses me. You did a great job on this level especially since it's so old and still good.2009-07-30 03:15:00
