The do's and don't's of advertising

The do's and don't's of ADVERTISING!
oh! hai! this is my guide to the things you should and shouldn't do while advertising your levels.

The DO's

LBP fansites!
LBP fansites are a very good way to get to get plays on your levels. There's mostly always a place to post a thread of your level in a fansite. It's good if the people there know you well so I'd register before you've published your level and say hello to everyone there and make a few posts. But remember on LBP sites you should probably give a good descriptions of the level and a few pics. here's a bad example of an advertising thread:

ok well bye... oh yeah here's the LBP.me link: [*LBP.me link*]

In-game advertising
Now there are many ways of in-game advertising: one is to post a comment saying play my level. but that often looks desperate. Another is if one of your levels already is getting plays, advertise your new level on that one. Like I said for the first method it looks too desperate for plays if you go on every level on the cool level pages and say:

H4H_play_my_level says:
plz play my lvl it dis te bst!!!!!!

see, that looks horrible and makes you say "NEVER!!!!" to playing their level, but if they were to say that in a nice (and nicely spelled) fashion then you might be like "hmmm... I could give it a try!"

The Don't's

Commenting on LBP profiles
I wouldn't do this because... well because no one likes their profile to just be spammed by people sayng "play my lvls plz!?!" It's also very easy to start flame wars on a profile and if you did do that then people will think your mean and you don't deserve to get plays from them.

ok... well that's it. hope this helps!

I would generally look for intelligent creators or players (found through reviews, levels they made etc) and actually, yes, comment on their profile but with at least a paragraph of a comment that explains a few details about my level and why I think they would be interested... I didnt think that was bad. Also if your advertising like that its usually nice to play some of theirs and leave a review or something showing that you aren't just spamming. Also some creators will allow you to advertise on their levels if they are similar or your friends with them or whatever.... but people will still ignorantly boo your comment without checking it out so whatever... yes speaking through experience...

Can we advertise here!? lol.
Play that

I used to, until I came across a level in LBP1. Can't remember what it was called, but all it was was a sign pointing right saying "Asylum". Then you went in the asylum and people were banging their heads against walls and rocking back and forth. All while really creepy music was playing. Then you left the asylum and there was a scoreboard. Creepy stuff D:

As for advertising, I just make threads on here and link to them in my sig. If people want to play it, they'll play it. If not, they won't. Doesn't bother me.

Oh, and Dortr, I never knew there was a level called "Last edited by Dortr; 14 Hours Ago at 03:17 AM. "

Hey there, thanks for the tips - seems like reasonable advice.

Now there are many ways of in-game advertising

To add to this.. personally, I like to read constructive feedback on my levels; I'm more likely to play someone else's level(s) if they've taken the time to write an interesting/helpful comment rather than if they've left some generic spam. I get enough spam in my inbox thanks, I didn't play this game to read more of it.

I have a sneaky suspicion I'm not the only one.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong though

Last edited by Dortr 14 hours ago at 3:17AM is my best level ever! I noticed that too... The irony is that showed up because I edited it to put the arrow and comment XD IfI didn't edit it it would have been fine.
I'm mean in my sig. lol.

Don't:
Advertise on LBPC's level showcase, seriously, the place's like dead, play-wise, everyone wants you to play thir level but won't bother playing other's.

I honestly dont mind people spamming on my levels, ive had a few levels on the cool pages and i never delete any spam comments. Even if they do say "PLAY MY LVL!!" My friend nathan900 built his reputation off spamming and now he has 24,000 creator hearts.2011-05-04 08:16:00

I tend to do this as well. If I see that someone has left a decent review/comment on my levels, I usually thank them, play through their levels (if they have any) and give them feedback when I feel it's necessary.
However, it's kinda hard for me to aggressively advertise my stuff. Makes me feel like some conceited fool by the end of it, but I try to remain as modest as I can when I do advertise.

My friend nathan900 built his reputation off spamming and now he has 24,000 creator hearts.
Whoa, seriously? I thought it was kinda "head-scratching" when I saw that he went from a little amount to an enormous amount of creator hearts. I thought it was just from the fact he went along with the trends and created the Zombie Island levels accordingly.

@nakari (for some reason replying to posts isnt working for me) He started his road to popularity very early, he was one of the people who exploited LBP1's original defect. The fact that it allowed the same level to be on the cool pages more then once and when whole the "7 day rule" never applied. His level "night life" got onto the cool pages hundreds of times, over and over. All because he spammed day and night, i swear i would log on any time of day and it he would be in his pod spamming. People started hating him for it but eventually levels like night life and bio shock reached 1,000,000 + views! Then he actually started making some decent levels and the people forgot he was the king of spammers, then thats where he created more of these known lbp2 lvls, and his reputation took care of the rest.2011-05-04 09:02:00
