How to make a ladder?

Archive: 7 posts

I have a level taking place in a sewer. And at the end, you have to get up a ladder.
Any ways to do that?

The player is a sackbot btw.

What angle is the ladder at? For example, if a human were to climb it, would you see their back, or side?

I'd recommend the side view - as mentioned above. That way you could probably record a sackbot action of moving hands up and down as if they were climbing a ladder, whilst activating a mover which goes up.

Or have them grab on to a conveyor type contraption, and have them raised to on invisible matter, just search for levels that give it away. Or, use the 3D camera and get a view from the back.2011-04-15 16:29:00

You could do something similar to EOP and use a player sensor to control an in/out mover so when he jumps the platform moves out under him/her.2011-04-18 16:32:00

Ok here's how to make a side on ladder. Turn Small grid on. Shrink the square down to the smallest possible on grid. Place a square. Then leave two grid spaces inbetween, place another one, keep doing this till you have a good length. Then smear some lines on each side. Glue all the pieces together. Turn the grid off and shrink down the ladder.2011-04-18 18:45:00

I'd trigger a short movie (controls disabled) at the bottom of the ladder, and animate the sackbot "climbing" with his hands.

EDIT: Oops, exactly what Standby250 said!

Optional idea:

Create an invisible platform made of black rubber (smallest size).

Use a piston, etc. to elevate it the platform to the top of the ladder.

You can place invisible dark matter (smallest size) around the ladder so as the sackbot rises up, he "wiggles" against invisible barriers which simulate... climbing?

EDIT: Just realized of course this wouldn't work, as the invisible objects would collide! Ah well!

That sucks - you made a diagram and everything!

I'd still recommend movers attached to sackbots though!
