What to work on??

Archive: 7 posts

I have currently several ideas that I want to turn into levels don't know how I should prioritize making them. All are in different stages in the creation process.

The first would be a continuation of my turtle level I wanted to add new gameplay style to it. I have the logic worked out just have to build the environment for this logic to interact with. I have the basic level design drawn up on paper just need to create it on ps3.

The next level I have been working on I have some of the logic worked out, there are a few things still to add. However there is just one key element that I am having a hard time working through. This is the level I am most excited to make complete, my avatar is kind of like a little preview of it.

Another idea that I have on my mind for a while is still in it's most basic stages of logic building and once the basic level is built I am going to need bucket loads of help creating some score/currency multiplication.

Then another idea just struck me this morning and I think that this one would be pretty simple to pull off but I don't know if I should open yet another crater on my moon and start working on a fourth, also i have levels out that need attention to Improve and update as I get feedback.

Need some sense of direction.

Pick the one you are closest to finishing and focus on that. If you're having a tough time getting things finished, it's probably better to not start on something new.2011-04-15 16:09:00

I just tend to get an idea and want to see if what I thought up will actually work. Having trouble keeping my mind from wondering as the possibilities are so endless...

I should keep up the ideas but maybe focus my actual create time on one project at a time. Thank you for your 'gide-ance' I will focus on my turtle sequel.

Charming post. We all get inspired, most often when away from the console.
"Ah I could do this... and that! Ah man I can't wait for tonight!"
But when actually playing, it's harder to structure the work.

I've had several ideas cooking in sketches that have grown, in my mind, too large to actually attempt.

I disagree with Thegide that you shouldn't start something new. I find I make good progress by starting new projects, working up a flimsy basic structure, deliberately doing something that's not part of any other project, and then piggybacking on the feeling of accomplishment to get more work done on in-progress levels. If nothing else, at the end of a week I've got a bunch of new ideas and logic experience. And that feeling is what makes me keep coming back -- the inspiration.

It also helps to go play a bunch of really boring, crappy levels really quickly to remind yourself that at any stage of completion, your work is streets ahead.

'Streets ahead' nice one.

There is just so much to work with once you get over a hurdle you find yourself up on a new plateau where there are so many more possibilities. Having trouble keeping my imagination from running wild, thanks for all your opinions I kind of thought this post was dead and buried.
