Frozen Flame - Chapter 2

Archive: 27 posts

The second chapter is finally here!

That took FOREVER to make and I'm glad it's finally done and not too buggy anymore... it started to feel like work towards the end!
I added a whole lot of features based on the feedback from chapter 1. There are now new abilities, traps, puzzles and slightly more enemy variation. Also, you can no longer just speed through the level while skipping all of the monsters
While the level isn't posted here as F4F, any feedback, as well as bug reports, is always welcome.

All of the amazing sequencer music is done by robbiecrews1984. Thank you very much Robbie! You're really talented and just giving you a theme for any area resulted in you spewing out several alternatives for me to choose from.. just amazing!

Voice acting is done by Xiphos08mp and emeraldgal, thank you to both of you two, as well! They're currently working on getting a better mic as well as some other stuff so we might rerecord all the voices at some point for better quality.

Win win win win win win win and more win.
Visually enjoyable, nice story and good gameplay.

Only minor things are:
The actual voices sound a bit like they dont care what they are saying, especially the female voices suffer from this.
Occasionally what is said by the voices does not match what is written in the mouths.
And the surroundings of the spawnpoint in front of the lava-jump-section gets demitted, and doesnt show when all players die and spawn at this spawnpoint.

Maybe I didnt notice, but a "skip the blabla/intro part" button would be nice.

all in all a good job, and continues to be one of my fav. series in lbp2!

I agree with Luos; I didn't feel any emotion coming from the female voices, and I thought that was a bit of a letdown seeing as this is an amazing series on LBP2 so far. However, the environment was visually appealing! I couldn't help but feel some warmth or coldness as I traveled through the hallways. I loved the new monsters too; I did not expect the way they behaved, which gave the game play a bit of variety and fun! Did you base one of the later monsters on a specific one from another role-playing game? Because that immensely epic! I had fun fighting that one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this level as much as I enjoyed the first one. Immersion is key in plenty of role-playing games, and this level was no exception. I already can't wait for the next chapter.

@Luos_83 and Qrii_Nakari:
I agree about the voices. The voices were kind of a "last minute decision" and I just wanted to get the level over and done with after working soooo long on it. The voiceactors are currently getting some better recording equipment (I hope) after which they'll redo all the voices in better quality and hopefully sounding more motivated

@Qrii_Nakari: I'm guessing you mean the beholder? I like that thing, it's so cute with his big eye...

I'll look into the despawning bit.. I actually think I know what the problem is and it might be extremely hard to fix if that's the case...

Ah, that's very understandable. I would've done the same thing if I was in the same situation. I'm glad you were able to find people who were willing to do voiceovers for you though! Have you already tried to do the voice-acting yourself? I would like to help you in that field, but sadly I only have a PS3 mic. ...Unless if you're okay with that. The only example I have with my own voiceovers is the Ninja Baby film in my signature, but you don't have to check it out if you're not interested and don't need another voice actress.

Yes! I wasn't sure if you were okay with me spitting spoilers to others about the creature. Its appearance definitely made my day!

And now you tell me you'd be willing to do voiceovers!
Well, I made a decision to put all the voices back to gibberish since it actually does suit the theme of the level better.

I also put in some extra checks for the despawning bit. While it won't prevent it in certain cases, it definitely makes it a whole lot less likely to appear.

The first cutscene is now skippable too, although I don't really like that myself... I hope that not too many people will skip it on their first play.

Most definitly better then the first one (at least what I played.)
Now when I got the part where Ceryl (I think that's her name) was fighting the demon the whole thing went crazy so that all of the Magic Mouths were acting like they were set to on so they instantly skipped over and when the cutscene finished I wasn't there so I couldn't complete the level.
Hey it was probley just a glitch that happened only to me but I thought I might as well mention it.

Good luck on the third chapter
and I think voice acting is better then gibberish but hey whatever floats your boat I guess...

@Yonin777:
That bug was reported so many times over the past couple of hours. For some reason the microchips had duplicated themselves on top of each other so it looked like one microchip but there were two... and that caused the cutscene to spawn twice and then everything went nuts.
Bugs like that are funny cause I didn't even touch that piece while I was making the other changes today.... it's fixed now anyway. (I hope)

I'm so sorry! I didn't know you had decided to include voice-acting until the day I played Frozen Flame 2. If you ever need another voice actress, just send me a message on the PSN and I'll see what I can do.

I'm guessing you have emitters that spawn new parts of the stage as you progress while erasing older parts. No way can all that detail be handled at once!2011-04-17 01:23:00

You are correct. The entire level spawned at the same time would eat roughly 300-350% of thermo

Hey Felkroth! It was a pleasure doing the soundtrack...at times . I gotta say it was hard work at times but, the fact I got to work with one or THE best creator in Little Big Planet was a real treat. I took what 2 to 3 weeks? Good times. Let me know if you need anything in the future. I'll be there to give you some awesome tracks.2011-04-21 18:23:00

Well I played this level before the PSN went down and never wrote a review, so here I go.

Frozen Flame Chapter 2

Gameplay: The game play of this level is absolutely phenomenal, top down levels come with many defects like lag of powers, environments and so on, but you capture it perfectly in this level. The way the character works and the many enemys that are in the level just made me want to go back and fight them all again. Aswell for the powers if each character was just magnificent and would make me go out and play this level again, the powers, enemys, and RPG style of the level is very outstanding. What needs improvement is the difficulty setting of this level and health system, due to the fact that some parts of this level is super hard and you dont have enough health, but this are just some minor improvements.

Story: The story of the level is really solid, ever since part 1 came out it explain everything about the characters which I really like. The way the character interacts with you is very important to the level aspect and you master it. Even the character interaction with others people and the environment is incredible.

Visualization: The Visual of the level is breathtakingly awesome, every single room, house, enemy, character is very well design with ton of sticker, decoration, and material. This level has a breath stunning look that not a lot of people achieve, what I think brings the player in more well the logo of the level itself is just magnificent how you created. There are some parts in the level that looks blank but thats it no more than 1 part.

Music/ Sound affects: The music in the level is really nice it brings the level together really nicely. The sound affects is very nice and creative, almost everything you do in this level has a sound which is really creative.

Overall: Overall this is one magnificent levels, the way you create this level is really outstanding. Im hoping to see part 3 of this level. This level is a must play level and no one should miss.

Overall score: 9.7
