What do I have to look out for to keep my profile/account safe?

Archive: 5 posts

I've been hearing all about these things that may destroy your profile in LBP2. What do I look out for or do to avoid this? I plan to back-up my profile after I am done playing, but do I have to save it on a USB? Because I don't really have a USB/flash drive thingy, so can I somehow just save it on my PS3? Thank you in advance <32011-04-14 21:45:00

Yes, keeping the Back-Up on the PS3 HDD is just fine. Just somewhere out of LBP so you can reimport if something happens.

...And basically, there not just one. There are a few glitches that can break your profile. Luckily, most are caused by items that, in reality, only you yourself can play with to cause the break. The current 'threat' is a glitches item that you (or a evil friend) can be attached to cause your body to shrink unnaturally, meaning you cannot spawn at all. Mm have recently found a cure to this glitch, and will be send a patch to prevent it completely in the future.

Tommy's advice is excellent and correct: there are quite a few glitches that can ruin your current profile, but you have to perform them yourself.

You might want to watch out for other players who, as leaders, will take you to their Moon and try shenanigans on your sackthing.

My overall advice: you really do need a USB backup.

In the 2+ months I've owned and played LBP2, I have had 2 update-related crashes that wiped the HDD. That's not in-game messing about, that's updating to versions 1.03 and other simple actions. While in-game bugs and glitches may only affect your current LBP profile (leaving the HDD backup intact), there are myriad factors that affect the performance of any computer (and your PS3 is a computer!). If your data gets corrupted at some point you won't just lose your LBP saves, you'll lose all your other game saves, music, movies, sign-in information for any services, and everything else on your PS3.

A USB drive is an added security measure and one that I did not think was necessary, until these last two months playing LBP.

If you don't have a USB, try running a USB/USB cable to your computer, or connecting your PSP (if you have either of these).

They should both permit you to copy your game saves, etc. back and forth.

In short, save your data not just outside of LBP, but outside of the PS3 in any form possible.

You won't know how helpful it is until that one day when everything goes wrong.

I often back up before I quit LBP 2, I sometimes don't always back up, but I do this recently and sometimes pop it on my flash drive. Never try the SpawnPopCancer glitch where you make your body shrink or grow, and you cannot spawn out. Can someone reply to my question that "You cannot spawn while you in the pod?"2011-04-15 16:48:00
