You think this game would shut Jack?

Archive: 31 posts

If you are a gamer then you should of heard of Jack Thompson.I really can't describe him so let me quote wikipedia

In every school shooting, we find that kids who pull the trigger are video gamers.?[32] Also, he claims that scientific studies show teenagers process the game environment differently from adults, leading to increased violence and copycat behavior.[33][34] According to Thompson, ?If some wacked-out adult wants to spend his time playing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, one has to wonder why he doesn?t get a life, but when it comes to kids, it has a demonstrable impact on their behavior and the development of the frontal lobes of their brain.?[35] Thompson has described the proliferation of games by Sony, a Japanese company, as ?Pearl Harbor 2.

Now ladies and gents look at the picture on the top right of this website and tell me, is Sony guilty....

oh and yes his trying to sue wikipedia to...

thats ridiculous, and y is it that sony is the one to blame, why not microsoft nd nintendo too? i mean jus look at saints row for 360 nd resident evil 4 for wii. the Console shall not be guilty, for the parents are towards letting their kids play it, it is rated M for a reason. And its not the effect of just a game, what about movies and books? and besides most games inspire me(for i am a drawer nd it gives me ideas for characters and stories)oh and i dont see a picture2007-07-07 07:37:00

i dont think LBP willin any way make JT stop >.>
in fact if some pervs put up levels that are full of porno or some stuff he may actually use it as an argument...
even if that doesnt happen with games like Manhunt two coming out I seriously doubt he'll ever stop...

From what i can tell some of the best games ever made are mostly non violent games. eg. Sim CIty, The Sims, and soon LBP. There is also GTA as well Which kinda ruins my theory and so will many other games im sure.

The reason that these games are so popular is the freedom you have. If you want you can make your Sim a fat slob and let him die, you can. this doesn't make you win or lose. Or you can make him rich and famous. Its up to you rown creativity how everything works out.

GTA has so much freedom. I have spent countless hours just driving, flying and riding around finding stuff to try. Base jumping made it even more crazy.

LBP is bringing user creativity to a nw level. Now we can design the game to be how we want it to be. This game will last a very long time because you cant finish it. Just like in GTA, The SIms and other games of this nature there isn't really a you win or you lose. You can only fail to achieve your own goals eg. Dying in The Sims. You may want your sim to die and there for you acheived your goal, you didn't win though.

these games are never ending, you can play them forever. Always finding new things to do and try.

This is whats going to make LBP so amazing.

Whoops got a bit carried away there. LOL!!

My point was supposed to be that some of the most successful games have been non violent games. I'm pretty sure at one stage The Sims was known as the greatest game ever made.

Ok i think im done

I'm Necro-ing.. but this is a great thread. I've never heard of him before but knew these people exsited.

To be hoenest, he does have a bit of a point, most kids (say, 13 and under) shouldn't touch 18+ games at all, and all the unstable kids after that age should steer clear. He is taking it too far though, cause I've been playing GTA since before it went 3D, and I'm 17 now, and haven't shot anyone yet. Theres like a 1 in 10 ratio of young kids who are affected (long-term/majorly) by violent videogames

Some games are not for children, just like some films, TV shows, books, songs, jokes, and many other activities such as drinking alcohol, making love, driving, and smoking. Why should the rest of us be denied these pleasures simply because they are not suitable for children?

GTA IV is a great game. It's not a game for children. American Psycho is a great novel. It's not a novel for children. Champagne is a great drink. It's not a drink for children. Restricting the freedoms of adults because children might get hold of these things is not the answer.

How hilarious. If he doesn't like the article about him... well, it's a wiki, so instead of getting litigious, he can just edit it himself!

Tut Tut Tut Maltay, thought you would have known better than to have revived a two month year old thread lol.

Anyway, hasn't Jack Thompson been banned from the court or something to stop him making cases against violent video games?

There's another thread on it somewhere.

he's been banned but is appealing. he also said he got banned because some judges were covering stuff up and he knew about it or something like that. he's probably just desperate and trying to get back at them for banning him.

LOL that would be hilarious... "Jack is an awesome man who you should all send moeny too
