Complex/moving objects in 3D layer background?

Archive: 4 posts

I've been getting acquainted with the 3D layer glitch.

It seems that objects created that use multiple parts and complex motions across layers are no good.

For example, in its simplest form, I bolt a square of cardboard to another square of cardboard, capture and emit, but when it gets to the background the front square gets deleted, along with the bolt. More complex versions of this, with rotators and different materials and so forth, also disintegrate but with weird anomalies, like leaving portions behind which fall down in their respective layers. Spent about 4 hours fiddling around last night and couldn't find a firm rule.

Is the 3D glitch really only limited to static objects?

(Please exclude sackbots from any advice; I've read up and experimented with them to great satisfaction)

Watch comphermc's video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij--bJxovSk&feature=channel_video_title) for the full explanation.

Basically all of the background layers have their physics in the very back thin layer. Two regular objects cannot exist in the same space at the same time, so the materials get destroyed. The exception to this is using light/dark matter.

And holographic material (but it is pain to work with as you cannot get object made only of holo to there)2011-04-14 07:15:00

Thank you sincerely guys! I devoured comphermc's tutorial and bookmarked it for return reference, what a gold mine. It's unfortunate about the backmost layer, but with workarounds available and in finally understanding just what can and can't be done with the 3D layers I'm ear to ear happy to get back to work on my level. Thanks again!2011-04-14 11:44:00
