A true FF game with the awesome battle system of Kingdom Hearts. SE states the game will be fairly difficult, so you all ready to deem this one another button masher--think again. What do you guys think, will Final Fantasy Versus XIII be the game to put Square Enix back on top of the role playing franchise and renew the decreasing demand for Jrpgs?

Ok, unfortunately no. Xenogears was the best JRPG (Final Fantasy VI second and Chrono Trigger third), Mass Effect is the best WRPG. Bah, that's just personal opinion. If you start a thread with X best Y ever, you will only start a messed thread that will probably flame

It looks pretty good so far. The battle system, the visuals, the open world. Talking about the world, it reminds me a lot of Resonance of Fate. They both look quite dark and gun-related. I'm not positive this is what dedicated JRPG players ask for, especially in comparison with RPGs like the Tales Of series or Dragon Quest, but that doesn't mean Japanese players won't enjoy it, and that definitely doesn't mean it won't be good. I'm not into mecha-related stuff, but this episode looks much more mature for sure, and there's something in this game that reminds me of Death Note, which I loved. I've also loved the Kingdom Hearts series, so I'm sure the plot won't disappoint me.

What do you guys think, will Final Fantasy Versus XIII be the game to put Square Enix back on top of the role playing franchise and renew the decreasing demand for Jrpgs? I think this will sell because Final Fantasy has the existing recognition and marketing budget to generate the sales but the rest of the JRPGs will continue to sell poorly due to their existance only being known to genre fans and people that follow gaming news and their marketing being generally limited to banners on gaming news sites and single page magazine ads.

I really wish this could be but TBH I don't think it will. I don't really see the point of a final fantasy game with a similar system to kingdom hearts, It works for kingdom hearts but I don't think it will work for this. If Square Enix want to make their fans happy they need to go back the the ATB battle system that makes fans happy along with a similar equip system to 6 and 7. This will definitely sell well but I don't think it will be the JRPG that makes the western market go crazy. :/

I dunno. I wanna say I like it. But a part of me gets a really weird feeling. A Final Fantasy Action RPG is the stuff of dreams, but I really hope they don't go down the same road that Crisis Core did. Crisis Core's leveling system was so abusive, I maxed out all my stats and I was only level 26, combined with the lack of anything that told me I gained a level except for a slot bar which gave me 777 and said "YOU GAINED A LEVEL." (Now they used that system VERY well in the ending, but yeah.) I will buy it, because the only FF game to severely disappoint me is XII (I actually fell asleep during the cutscenes...) And I *is ready to get flamed for this* absolutely loved XIII, so who knows. We'll have to wait and see. Also, is the video mirrored, or maybe it was just me?

Hmm, at first I didn't like the dark, ultra-modern environment the game was set as it seems really different then most FFs past in but I'll admit as I watched the vid it grew on me somewhat although if the game is set more often then not in a dark and murky city setting it would probably be to the game's detriment. I also don't mind the use of a real-time battle system as opposed to turn-based, but that's also coming from a longtime (and former) FFXI player who felt that was the direction the franchise needed to go to keep gameplay engaging. And in regards to both environments and battle, so long as progression in the game isn't based around going down a well-rendered but largely one-way street and the KO of the party leader doesn't result in an automatic game over then the game would be going in the right direction following what FFXIII...turned out to be. But we don't really know enough about that from this video. Also, am I the only one who finds the lead's (seemingly) mopey attitude and Japanese Pop star hairstyle somewhat ridiculous?

I think Final Fantasy XIII Forever.. I mean Versus will be more entertaining than FFXIII. But it would be also disappointing after YEAAAAAARS of waiting.

KH sold well in the U.S, but some were off put by the Disney characters and Winny the Pooh...and stuff. I think the mature theme in this game( they have stated the darkest FF game yet) will be very alluring not just in Japan but in the west as well. As for ATB, there is always FF XIII-2. They are supposively "fixing" the game, so who knows. Its really easy to confuse the two games. Im guessing you meant FF XIII, because i knew FF XIV was going to be terrible lol I remember saying the same thing about FF XIII( best rpg ever?) and i guess the reason i have such faith this is that its not being made by the FF XIII team; its being developed by the Kingdom hearts staff. So this game is getting the awesome graphics of FF XIII, but also a way better battle system. SE knows the complaints FF XIII received and even in the video you can see some open fields there--world maps have been confirmed. I mean this might be the truest Jrpg we play this gen for PS3

I would never claim that a game could be the best RPG ever before it's even out because that would be a childish thing to do. Sure it looks promising but I hardly doubt that this or any other RPG that will be released could ever come near to such a milestone as FFVII was even if there are some people who don't have a clue about good games and don't like it. FFVII is one of the biggest titles in gaming history and even if there would be a holy grale of gaming coming out you still couldn't call it the best game ever because of the meaning a game like FF7 had in gaming history. It's the same with games like Metal Gear or Resident Evil. They changed everything when they first came out. Those games that made gaming what it is today are the best games ever. I do think that Versus could become a very great title though. The gameplay looks like a hybrid of Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry which could be really cool. The characters, the design and the graphics are looking good too. If it's more like the older FF's with an open world, cities, interactive backgrounds and all that it could be one of the best FF's for sure. If it will be like FFXIII thoguh it will suck major balls!
