Spark Effect
Archive: 11 posts
Does anyone know how to make a spark effect? I'm trying to make one for like a broken light or switch. You know like when it breaks it just goes 'Bzzt' ..... 'Bzzt' ..... 'Bzzzzzt', and spurts the little orange/yellow sparks. | 2011-04-12 17:14:00 Author: Unknown User |
The light effect can best be created using Comphermc's probability tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVYY0z4HSq8 It's worth watching the whole thing to get the gist of it but the bit you'll need for the buzzing and dimming is at about 2:30 mins. For the sparks I'd try little bits of holo being randomly turned on and off. | 2011-04-12 18:26:00 Author: faulky Posts: 80 |
Ah, I need a tutorial on Holo too... =P | 2011-04-12 18:46:00 Author: Unknown User |
try making small bolt shaped hologram and have the sparking area emit those with sound effects too. I'm playing LBP2 right now so i'll test it out. | 2011-04-12 19:05:00 Author: LBP2_Tutorialist Posts: 225 |
Easiest way is to make your sparks in a small group of about 5 or 6, in a random pattern. I always make them in a slight triangular shape spreading out so that the tip of the triangular pattern is at the bottom, pointing to where the emmiter is. You will get better results with a material that is heavy, so that gravity can pull them back to the ground. I'd suggest using glass or X-Ray material to make the smallest circle possible (so that it's invisible), ans slap an LED light on it for your spark (not the flat LED... the one that looks like an actual LED, the one that looks like a Police Car light). This enables you to easily add a nice glow to your spark, which you can't with Holo or Neon... as well as easily tweak your colour and brightness. Capture your group of sparks, then slap down an emitter at the source of your sparks. Place your sparks at the right spot, with the pointy end of your group of sparks pointing towards the emitter and the larger area pointing up and slightly to one side. Now set your Linear Velocity to around 6 or 7 , and your Angular Velocity to around +300 or -300. This will make sure that your sparks spin slightly as they emit... rather than just shooting straight out. It's just a nicer looking effect in my mind. Set your emit settings to Expand, and your destroy settings to disappear. Now all you need to do is play with the linear and angular settings a bit more to tweak your effect, and the time your sparks are emitted and "alive" for. If your sparks are going to actually hit the ground, I'd suggest setting the destroy effect to Fade... looks nicer. All the other destroy effects look pretty bad when they destroy in mid-air, as the game simply "freezes" your sparks in mid-air when trying to fade them out etc. I'd also suggest using at least 2 emitters set up this way per source point of your sparks. One just gives you the same pattern over and over, whereas two will flesh out your sparks and give it a more random effect. Just make sure you tweak them slightly different from each other. That's pretty much it. Let me know if you have any more questions. | 2011-04-12 19:44:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |
That's a lot of words rustbukkit. So detailed you... | 2011-04-12 19:48:00 Author: LBP2_Tutorialist Posts: 225 |
That's a lot of words rustbukkit. So detailed you... Lolz... yeah well, I figure it's better to get it all out at once. This way, it's crystal clear and the chance of more questions is less than if I just said "Make your sparks with some material and a light, then make them emit". There's nothing I hate more than when I ask a question and get a vague answer, causing me to ask more questions and having to wait until someone responds in another post. Plus... I'm a wordy word kina' guy. | 2011-04-12 20:15:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |
Care to make a video Rustbukkit? XD | 2011-04-12 21:14:00 Author: Unknown User |
Care to make a video Rustbukkit? XD Not really... lolz. I suppose I could throw a quick one together for you tomorrow, but I'm too busy trying to figure out what's gone horribly wrong with the thing I'm working on that has a cajillion wires protruding from it right now. It won't take me long to do a short video for you, but it will have to wait until tomorrow I'm afraid. | 2011-04-13 00:15:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |
NP, I can wait. =P | 2011-04-13 16:07:00 Author: Unknown User |
I made a nifty little tutorial a while ago how you can achieve this kind of effect - it was created before LBP2 was out so obviously there'll be a much simpler and efficient method available now. Hope it helps | 2011-04-13 19:22:00 Author: theamilien Posts: 485 |
