Ok, pay close attention, here's the secret. I'm putting it in white cuz I don't want everyone to just be able to see it:
Use lots of jelly. Everyone loves jelly, so if your level is full of jelly material, how could you go wrong?

Seriously, don't worry about failing. I'm pretty sure that's one of the steps to becoming a better creator. In fact, if you want to be a better creator, I'd advise the following: Play, Read, Practice, Fail, Repeat.

Play levels to get inspired
Read this site and others to see what's new and happening out there
Practice making things that are fun
Fail miserably at making things that are fun
Try again.

No, you want to hear a quick sorcut to making something good and will reject anything else.
Thing is, there's not.

Time, dedication, atention to detail.

Test, test, test, and test your levels to make sure they play well.
Don't make something just out of wanting hearts and plays, usually don't end up great.
Practice, cannot get better at making something without practicing making it first.
Learnn to notice what make things "good," just don't outright copy everything good you see, and give credit when due.
Create something you want to, its a lot easier to build well something you really want to make than something you don't.
Focus.
Long atention span.
Focus on the project.
Dedicate to the project.

Even with all that, sometimes you just either got it or not.
Some people may try a lot and actually become great creators, while others may not, it all depends from person to person.

I wouldn't worry too much, I mean, as long as you're having fun with what you're building, does it REALLY matter?
If its good in my eyes is all that matters, and if its good in yours, that's all that should, anyone e;se who likes it is just a bonus, but just don't create out of an attempt to impressing everyone, that rarely ends up good.

Most people that have made levels I admire simply took a lot of time to perfect their levels.

But one thing you should know. Most of those great levels probably didn't start out way. They probably tried a million different variations and didn't just settle on 'good enough".

So, yeah, time and effort. No one ever created an amazing level "easily".

How you do it?

That's a very vast question.

Start small don't expect to make something that took 2 months for a person who has been playing and creating since release day of LBP1. Watch all the tutorials in game and on YouTube as much as possible.

Choose something you want to create. Let's say moving platforms. Work on them until you get it just right. What I'm trying to say is work on one thing and by the time your done with that you will have a better understanding of the tools used for that creation. Then you can create other things entirely, using the same tools you've used before. For instance a MOVER. You used a mover to make an object move. Then it comes to mind hmm maybe if use this mover attached to the X button on a controlinator for boost with a topdown car. Set the mover at a faster speed to make it look like boost. Ok then your thinking well I want a timed boost. Hook a timer up to the mover.

See what in trying to say everything you use can be used again and again for multiple objects. Bottom line is your going to have to come up with your own style to make that great level your looking for. Another great way to see the "behind the scenes" of great levels is to look for some that you can copy to your moon. That way you can get an idea on how things work.

I hope I helped. This question is way to big to ask. Just create create create. You'll be stuck in an endless rut if you beat yourself up over other people's creations. One more thing. Failing may be bad in other areas of life but in LBP failing is a good thing. Because that means your attempting. How many attempts do you think these great creators take, many. Have fun.

It's not really about it being just right. It's about whether you think it suits YOU

That's what I was trying to say. Just right for me is just what I want it to be in my head. I don't really think there is a right way to do anything in LBP. You may make a top down car that works exactly like the one I made but the logic may be totally different.

I may have came across wrong but I was trying to say that there is no exact way to do anything. That the question was way to big for a precise answer. If he would of asked what's the secret of building a good suspension on a vehicle he probably would have gotten some tips or links to help him out. Actually now that I think of it. What type of level was he even asking about. A side scrolling shooter is entirely different from a platformer.

Priceless.

My first level in LBP was complete garbage... and I'm an artist. My second level was slightly better and at least resembled objects that you could recognize... but was still garbage. I spent a good year playing with the tools and materials, making small experiments along the way in hopes that they would one day turn into levels. They are still sitting there, half finished.

Most of what I created in the past I considered to be practice, and only now... a few years after LBP's release, am I finally able to understand what works, what doesn't, and why. I can finally put my artistic skills to work for me to make a good looking level. It's funny, because most of my friends (and even strangers) want to know why I have so many levels that are locked. That's the reason... they are mostly crap left over from my learning curve with the tools. All good starts to ideas I'd like to go back in and finish.

My point... it takes time, practice, and perserverance to become good at anything no matter how much raw talent you have... this game included.

All the advice above... good stuff. Take it to heart... there really is no easy answer or easy way to become better at this.

Good luck, stay focused, and be happy. If you aren't having fun, you're doing it wrong.

Definitely practice.
I started off as a terrible creator, as I'm sure we all did, everything I created looked like total crap and I ended up deleteing everything on my moon.

I do not consider myself a good creator, I pale in comparison to a lot of people, although I have made a massive improvement. So yeah, definitely practice!

Keep making levels, publishing them, and you will slowly improve, trust me.

Also, the Corner Edit tool is your best friend. <3

To be totally honest, I don't even think there is a secret. It's just trying really hard, spending lots of time on something, and not being scared to remake it if you don't do it how you want to. You need to be dedicated, but more importantly, you probably need to have an idea of what you're making before you start. Think of a storyline - however vague, because even if it's not a deep story level, having a structure will help you think of what to do next.

So, you'll want to think of what setting your level will be - so this is like a theme, and you kinda have to stick with this theme. So don't go having a mining theme, and sticking VR grids in there!

Character - who are you playing as?

Type of level - what type of level is it? Platformer, etc.

Know what you're doing, and work hard at it. Guarantee: You will get frustrated from time to time. When this happens, just take a break, and come back to it later.

The main idea is - don't aim to please everyone else. Please yourself, perhaps even just make a level that you'd really want to play. Make it something you'd enjoy, and hopefully others will agree. But if you get frustrated at any point, just take a rest. No point doing something when you're annoyed at it - clear your mind, and come back to it when you're more focussed.
