Costume sensor?

Archive: 20 posts

a way to sense a particular costume item that a player is wearing (WITHOUT using sackbots), for example get out the ninja mask to sneak past enemies. This would be usefl if you had a level that couldnt use sackbot eg if you wanted to swim or grapple.2011-04-11 22:06:00

Nay, as some may need DLC costumes, rendering levels unplayable.
I highly doubt anything that could stop players from playing a level because they haven't bought DLC will happen.
(The way things are going, I doubt any new features are gonna be added. )

An interesting idea, but there's the fact that there's a lot of DLC, and some people (like me) wouldn't be able to play said stages because we don't have said DLC.

Edit: Sniped. Darn it Yaru!!!

That be good, but it might be good is it included with costume switcher or somehow? Just like a powerup or something, sackboy switches to different outfit, could work on sackbots. like say sackboy was striped to default, he walk past that thing and he in a ninja outfit or anything. Then it go great with the costume sensor like score sensor and score giver.2011-04-11 23:07:00

honestly, you people saying " because you don't have the dlc" well, some people are more considerate and will think about that aspect if they are going to do it right and they want it to be a good lvl. i think that with the player sensor thing, it could be a chip called costume changer. and it can change the players costume, also sackbots if set right. also it could be set to only effect player 1 and not player 2,3 or4. that would be cool! oh and it wouldn't matter if you don't have the dlc because your not actually wearing it. when you return to pod your in the costume you put on in the beginning, like when you control a sackbot.2011-04-12 10:21:00

You can sticker Creatinators and use them as forced costumes. If you could place tags on them, all would be good, but alas.2011-04-13 00:48:00

I agree with most of you about the DLC issue. I agree with the issue only because I have never been a huge fan of DLC costumes. Now that lbp2 has the bots, they are a bit more enticing because you can use them in a level. This is not enough for me to want to buy DLC outfits though. Personally what sells me on DLC packs are the levels, material content, and object stickers. This is only because my favorite part of the game is making levels and these packs give something unique to put in.

Now the funny thing is everyone's gripe about DLC content cutting back on playability. Can't this already happen with the sticker key thing? Basically the issue everyone is mentioning has already happened, but there are few levels that use DLC stickers that are needed to complete a level.

This also effects the prizes of course witch is harder to notice for creators. Basically I try to give the basic object as a prize without stickers and without magnet keys. This way players get the basic object but can tweak it however they want. You can always add to objects but never take anything away. This is a pain to do by the way if you decide to make a prize after you have decorated it and such.

Which makes me think of a nifty suggestion. I think we need a clear all option, something that does not delete the object but all stickers and magnets on the object and can turn it into one material as well. In my levels I try to give people really useful stuff and try to axe the DLC stuff so everyone can use them. I'm not saying all my stuff is 100% DLC free, but I try.

All in all I have never been a fan of DLC costumes, but other people use them, soooo...... why not? If you decide to use DLC costumes to get to certain parts of the level, how is it different than DLC stickers? I would never use it, but why deprive people who want this simple addition in the game? I call it, having your cake and eating it too.

nice point.... sticker switches are very similar so it cant really effect the game massively, more of an improvement than a problem. also I'm sure many many people have a lot of the DLC out there and so i would not be surprised if you use DLC and get all positive feedback. it doesn't take much to change a level you have made into a DLC free zone. even if the costume is an important part or like you say, prizes with DLC stickers and materials. One problem i have found is people using DLC ( often rare DLC or seasonal DLC ) in their levels which were meant to be copied for any reason say for a photo shoot level to make avatars or like the level "A Level In Create Mode" from lbp1 could not be used because many don't have the DLC required, which is a shame because most of these levels are amazing. my point is that using DLC is like a game of luck, you may get good feedback and you may not. it completely depends on who plays it, who has got the correct DLC and who is considerate of changes that you may have had to make.2011-04-13 09:23:00

limiting the clothes to only LBP2 clothes would work.

not everyone would have LBP1 and the ability to import there stuff.

Of course there WOULD be the DLC problem, HOWEVER, there are DLC stickers and most people realise that. Often, they don't use super rare stickers. The sticker sensor did fine, so why not the custome sensor?2011-04-14 11:10:00

Them having LBP1 or DLC shouldn't mean anything.

I'm sure people have made levels with sticker sensors that require stickers from a certain DLC.

I think the problem with comparing stickers to costumes is this: How often do you use DLC stickers? Now, how often do you use DLC costumes? I'd say there is a big difference between the two. In fact, most people, when using sticker switches, use homemade stickers. You don't need DLC for that. But most people, when making homemade costumes to hand out through Sackbots, use costume pieces and decorations from DLC. If Mm made a way to make your own costume pieces (doubt it), then maybe this would work better.2011-04-15 22:15:00

it sound like this is barely a conundrum. just use it in the same way as the sticker switch works. then if the person forgets about dlc problems right a comment. simple.2011-04-16 10:06:00

But a cosyume changer could start "free costume levels again" as what if when you change into the desired costume would you be able to save it. If so then its just not worth the trouble of the costume changer.2011-04-16 11:51:00

Well, maybe you could only choose non-DLC costumes for the costume sensor. But I suppose if DLC could be chosen, then it's up to the creators to decide how to use it and how it makes the level uncompletable - it wouldn't be any different with DLC stickers.2011-04-16 19:03:00

no i meant that the costume is not actually on you, it just looks like it is or behaves like a power-up and cant be saved as a costume and cant be taken out of that level.2011-04-17 08:14:00

errr, if you set the costume changer to be an ninja outfit from lbp 1. Then a player without lbp 1 or ninja outfit will switch to the ninja no matter he has or has not got lbp 1 content. Just to add strict, player cannot save the costume that he had switched to. If it was a power up type, then power up remover will get to player's current costume.2011-04-18 01:38:00

yeah a power up could work, it would be like picking up the power gloves but instead of just gloves it is an entire costume that the creator has chosen which could then be sensed by the costume sensor. Making it so that you couldnt save the costume would be necessary to stop DLC sharing, and of course you would have to have the costume removed before leaving the level.2011-04-19 00:51:00
