Super Slug Slayer

I've begun work on a new project (Go figure, I hope I get this one done) called Super Slug Slayer, a fighter-platformer game. It has simple controls of old fighting games such as Mortal Kombat, being:
Dpad--
-Left/Right - Move
-Up - Jump

Shape Buttons--
[] Punch
/ Uppercut
O High Kick
x Low kick

I've yet to work in any "special moves," but I plan to throw some in there eventually.
The posted level is still just an early tech demo, featuring one type of slug and an advanced form of it. (The advanced one takes twice the hits to kill it and attacks twice as fast)
I need a name for the advanced versions of things (like Slug+, but more creative. It'll go for all variants, so.. Aeroslug+, for example, or Mightyslug+) so if you think of one, I'd appreciate it(:
Any useful feedback is appreciated, too, such as naming a bug or recommending an enemy type or new gameplay element.
I also plan to add health refill things (Some will probably require being bought using points) and maybe other items.
Thanks for taking a look!

Interesting demo, curious to see what you'll be doing with this. Have you thought about sound effects for punching the slugs? For slug naming, I myself would go for something humorous, like Turboslug and Ultra Turboslug. The slugs could drop collectables (you can do about a trillion things based on this alone) and you can breathe life into the level with characters and story if you're so inclined.2011-04-14 01:36:00

Played it, liked it, want to see where its headed. The graphics are cool and the music fits it well. There is alot you could do with this protagonist, his repetiore of kicks and punches seems to be underused against slow slimey enemies that are on the ground. Maybe slug mechs kind of like Krang from TMNT not the big cyborg body just the robo legs/fishbowl kind of thing. MechaSlug maybe?? Keep going with this one.2011-04-14 13:20:00

Thanks guys
DiscoKrakken: I've got sound effects, but I haven't been on recently to make them louder. I'm lazy. xD I'll get to it though. I was thinking names along those lies myself. Haha :b
It is a tech demo, so story and such have yet to make it there. I like the collectables idea

Ace: His attacks are all labeled differently already in anticipation for future enemies. A such, the three different ranges will obviously attack in different spots (High/medium/low) and a high kick, maybe, could do superdamage to an Aeroslug, or maybe a low kick does more versus a Mechslug.

As of now, I'm not entirely sure how I'll work out background graphics. I have basically two options (Which can both be implemented).
1) The hologram-style I used in this tech demo, limited by colors and detail (It is harder than I thought to do some of that stuff. For detail I'd pretty much make it all separate, photograph it, and put it back on the hologram)
2) Make "classic" graphics, like Sackboy would use. I'd need a solid-material background for that, and it would undoubtedly take a LOT of time to mold into place.

So yeah, there's a bunch of work to be done. The more comments I get about it, the more I'll know how to implement stuff and such, of course .-.
I'll let you all know when I update this(:

Played it, interesting level.

Pros:
+ Really cool music
+ Nice logic
+ I like the instruction given at beginning so I wasn't completely lost how to play
+ Unique level/presentation

Improvements:
+ that annoying slug wouldnt detect my hits sometimes haha
+ I prefer using the left stick then the directional pads, quite hard to jump diagonally, a bit annoying -.-

Overall:
Good work! Lots of potential. i look forward to future versions (:

Hey there, i just played your level and here is what i think:

- Nice attacks logics, but maybe add some combinations?
- The intro explained well how to play it, so i didnt got lost
- The music fits the game
- Maybe add some coins or something to give points
- Try to make a history with plenty characters (i know its a demo, i am saying for the game)

It was a nice level, looking forward for what you are doing with it. =)
Play my Formula 1 level and leave a feedback when you get a chance, the link is in my signature.
