D-Pad in Menus

Archive: 6 posts

I often see levels with a main menu where you can select options, view high scores, start the game etc. But they always use the analogue stick to navigate the menu!! Who even does this? I've always used the d-pad to navigate menus and I'd like creators to support this It always confuses me for a few seconds when I start a level and can't select menu options.2011-04-11 12:03:00

D-pad works only if you disable popit, but when you do that you kill access to text chat and people without keyboard can't talk to eachother. This is one of complaments i had with a Tetris

I usally or gateing analog sticks with d-pad ;]

Considering I never play these levels, I dont have much of a say. However, is it really such a big deal that you have to make a thread about it?2011-04-11 14:58:00

Tell you what, I'll enable support for both control methods in my upcoming project.2011-04-11 20:35:00

Shadowriver said it: you have to choose between enabling the dpad and enabling the popit. If the popit is disabled, that means no one without a keyboard can text chat, which would be quite annoying in a multiplayer game where all players should agree on what menu selections are going to be made before the game starts.2011-04-12 01:34:00

D-pad works only if you disable popit

This isn't true, use two controlinators and have one controled by the nearest player and only actived once the one that the player is sitting in is activated, then wire the outputs of the d-pad on this to the inputs of the d-pad on the other one and both d-pad and popit works, although this may only work on sackbots.
