Is it possible to make a sackbot crouch?

Archive: 9 posts

I was working on a new level and came across a problem, I can't make the sackbot crouch, it does everything else but can't crouch, as in, the same sort of animation as if something heavy falls on sackboy (without killing him) he crouches. I want to re create this same effect with a sackbot at the press of a button, however I don't want to emit anything cause it will defect the purpose.

List of things I've tried:

Movers, (moving down does nothing or flies away if set too high)
Rotators, (good for making some kind of crouch roll manoeuvre but not what I'm looking for)
Sackbot brains, (tried to record an animation and loop, but nothing recorded)
Pistons on floor/DM/Hologram, (just makes the bots head move all over the place)

Thanks, Springs <3

Try using a gyroscope you could bend the sackbot just enough that his feet don't leave the ground. Don't know how it will look...just a thought.2011-04-10 15:21:00

thin peice of invisible glass being emitted would recreate the effect of an object pushing down on you.2011-04-10 15:28:00

Emit a thin (Invisible) platform of Rubber/Dark Matter over their head.2011-04-10 15:34:00

just use a mover pushing down slightly with a gyro tilting the ways he's walking just a TINY bit! i havent done this but gyro's work on sackbots and when its being moved down its legs bend and his head is lowered!2011-04-10 16:25:00

its possible.
Put a controlinator on the sackbots microchip if you havent already, and set it to override, but not receive. Attach a battery to the input of the up/down tilt, this will make the sackbot look down (or up, depending on the value the battery is set at). If you are looking for a greater effect, set the sackbots animation style to da vinci in addition to the battery method, as da vinci's pose is hunched back.

Thanks everyone for your responses. <3

Testing:

Emiting a thin piece of rubber does work, DM doesn't move even with a follower:

Unfortunately the follower moves too slow (even on highest settings) to keep up with a 100% speed sackbot and just crushes it when it moves:

A mover + gyroscopes do make the sackbot crouch, only not very low, so it can't be used for the purpose intended:

The sackbot would not crouch fully with gyroscopes so I setup a sequencer to make it jump every time the left stick is moved to crouch fully:

Using this setup, crouching is more like walking at an angle:

Using the Da Vinci settings, the bot does crouch, it can even crouch lower with batteries set to move the arms down and at a small angle, however this makes the sackbot walk differently to all the other brains on the bot:

Thanks everyone, I am still open to suggestions, should anyone have any other ideas how to do this.

I have made a gyro down ward mover combination this is hooked into the controlinator.

It needs to be copied to work both ways as he leans way back when running right. This picture I hadn't yet adjusted the strength of the downward mover so hes not quite touching the ground.

The only other problem is when he is still and you activate it he just stands on one leg facing the camera.???
