Sucker Punch

Archive: 14 posts

I watched Sucker Punch today and have to say it's one of the best films I've ever seen. It's deep, dark and beautiful.

I guess this thread is to say "Go and see it!"

If you've already seen it,what are your thoughts on it?

Wow, I think every reviewer in the world would disagree with you It's getting terrible reviews and lots of hate.

I was going to see it, but the bad reviews put me off.

Why do reviews matter? Jonah Hex is one of my favorite films and it got VERY poor reviews. It's your opinion that counts buddy.

I want to see this movie bad, but I spent all my cash on a cd. 8(

The movie was... interesting.

I thought the plot was weird, and the only reason why I liked it was because there was a dark and gritty mood throughout the movie. True, there were badass scenes (not mentioning any here), but if I have to give the plot a rating, I say maybe a 2 or 3 our of 5. Yeah.

Plot: 2.5/5
Theme: 4/5
Mood: 5/5 (<- 300 and Watchmen producers FTW)
Cast: ?/5 (these people I never seen before; new cast?)

I'm highly confused by this. Firstly I've always been confused by numbered ratings, but besides that shouldn't you be able to rate the cast simply based on their performance in this movie?

Anyway, people are completely trashing it, but I enjoyed it. I fully understand why it's being trashed, but I disagree with a lot of it because they went in there expecting something that never existed. It's like walking into G.I. Joe expecting a great storyline. Please. Anyone who saw the trailer should've been able to see that it was just going to be an awesome CGI-fest. Sucker Punch was a fantastic experiment and deserves your money. It's a great example of the movie industry trying something strange and different which will only be further discouraged by the poor box office performance of this movie.

@CS: Yeah, wth.
That's more like a "star power" rating than anything. Which doesn't matter to me. As long as the actors keep me immersed in the movie, I'm good.

I was interested in sucker punch before the reviews (bunch of females kicking butt, what's not to like?), I still want to see it, even after the poor reception.
As with any movie, don't listen to reviews, and go in with low expectations, and you will leave happy in most cases.

People and reviewers seemed to trash Scott Pilgrim online, but I loved it, so I don't trust anyone any more.
Btw, I wonder if this has hurt or helped the game developer Sucker Punch (Sly, Infamous)??

EDIT:
@ApeCheese:
Ah, that's good. I just assumed it was the same as the others.
Check out the imdb board for Scott Pilgrim. A lot of hate in there for some reason..

People and reviewers seemed to trash Scott Pilgrim online, but I loved it, so I don't trust anyone any more. Actually Scott Pilgrim received mostly positive reviews, check out rottentomatoes.com (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/scott_pilgrims_vs_the_world/) , 81% out of 230 reviews were positive, 83% out of 105,497 people liked it. But I still agree with you, never trust anyone, a lot of times people are quick to support/deride a movie based on hype/lack of hype/overhype/whathaveyou rather than just looking at a film's merit.2011-04-10 05:49:00

Yeh I wouldn't listen to the critics at all with this one. It is a film that some people won't like and I can see that, but it just has so many things going for it that I'm very disappointed in the reviewers in general that as professionals they preferred to nitpick rather than accepting the film for what it is. I mean I'm still forming new interpretations for the ending, that has to say something.

I will say though, that the whole "females in skimpy outfits killing stuff" is only a small part of the movie and funnily enough, the least dramatic parts in it. It does provide nice contrast and plenty of "ahh man, that's awesome!" moments. Steampunk, Robotic, Nazi Zombies anyone?

I like Zack Snyder (Despite the incorrect spelling of his name), however I can't say this film looks good at all :S2011-04-10 11:58:00

Sucker Punch really hit me hard, but not in the right direction. The protagonists objectified wear stiletto stumble across the entire middle third, making the final and arguably good start. The cast is strangely soft, but Snyder makes up for with its stunning visual effects. In general, Sucker Punch is an experience people should not enjoy.
LOL, I didn't understood a f!
I have to watch it...sit on my chair, with my Surround at max volume, and disconnecting the brain for some 2 hours.
Can't wait for the blu-ray release

There is a third layer of the fantasy of it all. To escape, Baby Doll generates a list of four elements that must be acquired. As each of these tasks are performed, they are released to video scenarios inspired strange game where you must be a goal achieved.2011-05-16 08:27:00

This is what the movie feels. An excuse for a little action scene. I have to admit, Snyder knows how to direct action, but for some reason, when it comes to this movie, which seems to be losing his touch. Although there is no camera is nothing that dampens the action scenes, makes the rapid panning.2011-05-19 08:26:00
