Best way to use Fonts?
Archive: 4 posts
So, I've been to a few levels and grabbed their fonts - the ones with the whole alphabet saved as one object. Question is - how do I use these things now? They're all one big piece and can't be moved or copied individually..? I'm obviously missing something but don't know what it is. Help..? | 2011-04-09 05:16:00 Author: jblalock78 Posts: 24 |
Your not missing anything actually... they are all screwed up thanks to wonderfull Backward Compatability still being broken (hey, wasn't someone supposed to fix that a while ago?) Only workaround is to open the font, then copy it. Now slap down a piece of light matter (because it floats and you won't have your letters begin falling to the ground). Take your copied version likely made of cardboard, select and copy it, then use it to paste those letters into the light matter you just slapped down. I should point out now that you will likely have to do this one line at a time because your object will become to0 complex and you won't be able to continue otherwise. Okay, next step.... delete the letters you just pasted into your material. This will leave you with a negative impression of all your letters in that row including all the little bits that fill in the holes of your letters. Slap down a piece of cardboard. You need a different material each time so that when pasting your letters it doesn't just treat it as if you are adding to the material with the one you are already using. Copy past the negative impression of your letters along with the tiny bits that fill in the holes into your new piece of cardboard. Delete the pieces you just copied into the material and you will be left with your letters. You can switch up the material differently so that you end up with light matter letters, or just change them all once your alphabet is done. I change mine to holo as a personal preference. Hope this helps... and that I didn't miss a step. | 2011-04-09 07:36:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |
Even a line at a timer is too much for me! I had to do roughly 4/5 letters at a time. Essentially, yes, the cookie cutter technique. A reverse outline each letter (so as the letter is now the hole), which is then pasted onto any material. this will give the material the shape of the letter, all thats needed now is the delete the bulky outline. | 2011-04-09 09:13:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Awesome help - now I get it. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain that, Rustbukkit! | 2011-04-09 15:01:00 Author: jblalock78 Posts: 24 |
