The UV tool and Grid Material...Vastly powerful but seldom used?

Archive: 9 posts

Hi there. Thought I'd just do a quick tutorial for some cool effects with the UV tool

Did you know that the grid material makes some very interesting tank tracks?

Ok make a block of 2 high by 4 wide wood material and place it in the air. Now make a block of the Animated grid material 1 high by 4 wide and place it down louching the top of the wooden block. Copy it and flip the copy horizontally. and place this under the wooden block so its touching. Now make a block of animated grid material 2 high by 1 wide and place this to the left side of the wooden block, copy it and flip the copy and place this on the right side of the wooden block. Now glue all 5 pieces togeather.
Now, on the wooden block place a controllinator. On its circuit board place an advanced mover.
Connect the left analogs sticks left and right outputs into left and right input on the advanced mover and set the movers acceleration strenght to 100.
Now select the UV TOOL and highlight the top animated piece. rotate it so its animating from left to right and adjust it so its lined up on the block- as bright/dark/bright/dark etc.
Now highlight the right piece and rotate so its animating from top to bottom, select the bottom piece so its animating from right to left, and the left side piece so its animating from bottom to top.
In each tweaks menu for each animated grid material block set the following- On Cololur to white, brightness 100, and animation speed to 70%. Set input action to Dimmer, and Off Colour to white, brightness 100, animation speed to 0%.

The effect-
When the left stick is moved on the controllinator it activates the advanced mover as normal. But, as its wired to the 4 animated grid blocks moving the stick TURNS ON the 'On' colour state sand starts the grid material animating at a speed of 70.
When the stick is released, it activates the 'Off' colour state. As its animation is 0, the animated grid stops animating.
Maket the advanced mover's speed 2.0 (for an effective animation the speed you move at should match thr speed the animated grid animates at.
Also, as the controllinator controlls the left/right movement, the animated grid animates the direction you push in

What a nice comment, Thanks buddy. Well, hopefully it will be of use to people.
Oh, if you wish to reverse the way that the advanced mover works (Left and right on the controllinator to reverse the left and right on the advanced mover, change local space to yes.

Here's a tutorial on how to upload picture here:

1. Take the picture in LBP2 and find them in your popit.
2. Press square on the pictures and click on upload.
3. Go to your PC and check out your LBP.me account, on the left hand side it should say photos, click on it.
4. Click on the photo you want and copy the address bar.
5. Write a post and click on the frame logo above where you would be typing and paste the address in the box that appears.

And that's it! Simple. Here is an example from one of my levels:

I don't get why make this... I always use neon metal and neon border metal for nice effects. Stick a black sticker on the neon border metal for a black block with nice neon corners.2011-04-16 20:46:00
