Archive: 16 posts

You know whenn you put in tons of time into a level and no one plays it? sorta discouraging, I make levels because I enjoy it, but It feels like a waste when i only get 5 plays :/ anyone else have this problem?

then i figure I post on this site since thats what its meant for, and no one looks at my thread lol. there has got to be an easier way! any suggestions? I think the name of my level is fine as is the description. I dont know what to do :/

My lvl is http://lbp.me/v/zk1j5f if anyones interested, thanks

Yeah, I think I got only 3 or 4 plays (or at least, only 3 to 4 replies) from my showcase thread. Didn't seem to help much, but its better then nothing.

As for lack if plays, I think I see your problem - the name "Justin Beiber" is no where in the title.

Yeah really annoying. When I dont get a lot of plays I delete my level then republish it again so it goes back to newest levels. But also posting your levels in the level showcase here is a great idea. I did it with one of my levels that stood at 9 plays and now it has 16.2011-04-09 11:54:00

This is where advertising can come in handy. Sure, it can feel obnoxious at times, but it's worth a shot. Just as long as you don't include the words "P4P" or "H4H" in your posts.

Have you already read this guide (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=13515-Guide-on-Promotion-quot-How-to-Get-Your-Level-Played-quot&highlight=promotion+tactics)?

Well your level wont do more plays now since 3 days already passed, work on another one and if you success with it people eventually will try your other levels, this is plus that come with player earth view by default

As long as then people that do play your levels enjoy them and have a good experiance from them then you have done a good job. Your level might only be played by one person but this may influence and inspire them to create something else as good as yours. This snowballs and then we all benefit by having tons of nice levels to play. All this could stem from your level.2011-04-13 00:50:00

A player's Planet and its levels are rather like a blog. LBP is a social network. This is something I rather dislike, but we have to take the lumps with the good.

99% of blogs don't appeal to anyone beyond the author or the author's small circle of friends. This is unfortunate for quality blogs which end up being overlooked, but the common view is that because such a huge number of blogs are worthless recycled garbage seeking to boost hits and clicks while providng zero value, they all deserve to rot in obscurity. The common view is, hard work and promotion and of course quality content will, given enough time, help to elevate the deserving winners from a vast pit of crap. Of course people also say it should be enough to simply enjoy writing the blog, no matter who visits. (This can sound like patronizing advice however, especially after 2 years creating unique and creative levels which have a collective 30 plays or less.)

Promoting one's levels typically takes two forms: "travel the circuit", i.e., play from the Newest list frequently, give lots of Yays and encouraging reviews, publicize on websites like LBPC, etc.; or "monkey see monkey do", i.e., copy levels like Press X, Get 50 Trophies, Glitch!!!, Costumes, Justin Bieber, H4H P4P L4L, Test/Intro, etc. and use goading and flaming tactics to generate large numbers of visitors. In the former case, you'll see less activity but it will be of higher quality; in the latter, half of all players will hate you and let you know, but by god, it'll be a massive army of haters.

Neither tactic is very glamorous. It's a grind. Ask any movie or rock star what they hate about their job, and s/he will say "promotion." People love the fame but hate the day-to-day maintenance - and if they slacken, the fame disappears. If they go for cheap attention, they lose credibility. It's a balancing act. It's miserable!

That's why I tend not to promote my levels so much as enjoy making individual, fleeting connections with players. I get about one play every five days on one of my levels, despite playing online every day for three or more hours. I spend that time enjoying myself, finding inspiration, and fine-tuning ideas. LBPC has been a great place to help discover that mindset.

Hang in there and keep on making quality stuff!

I seriously think the best things to really draw attention to a level are the title and the level badge, they are the first things a player sees, and if they really like them, they'll usually play it. Generic level names like fire temple don't really impress, and boring badges that are just an ingame sticker don't help much either. And probably the most important thing to getting noticed is getting a bunch of plays early, otherwise, people won't necessarily trust its reputation.2011-04-13 04:14:00

LOL i'll be completely honest here, MOST of the time level plays are SHEER luck, but after you are let's say "famous" people will play your levels because they are thinking (WOAH that guy has a lot of hearts, I bet he makes good levels). You see I know it kinda stinks but that's just the way it goes. (but hey, it's your level and if you like it isn't that all that really matters?)2011-04-13 06:21:00

I never found level badges to do anything. And F4F will get you some feedback, but usually you have to go and do someone elses F4F and hope they actually return the favor...but then again that is only feedback...so not much use for plays. It does seem if you get to the cool pages you may get some plays, but all in all the onyl one that seems kosher and effective was the mentioned play other's levels and leave good feedback. Sometimes people you help out will show their friends their levels and such...then agian I have yet to break the 200 plays on any level...and on most levels I am still well below 100...with that said getting plays is much easier than getting feedback.2011-04-13 19:09:00
